My piano teacher told me that only perfect practice makes you better. So if you have to go slow then go slow until you can go faster. Nice video and insights.
the BEST advice categorically! not just for music or arts, even for selecting your math graduate specialization. so long as you are passionate about it.
Wonderful, I can hear YOUR personality - and what feeling you get from the piece. A lot of singers sound empty and don’t feel it, yet perfectly sung. You singing is full and wonderful.
personal as her technique may be, her accuracy in rythm and singing every tiny note exactly at pitch is a dazzling achievement that, honestly, most of otherwise excellent singers get more or less right at best, at that speed. And her voice doesnt sound strained at all to me. On top of that she has brilliant hight and astounding power and depth in her lower register. I can only deduct from all that that her singing technique must be really good....but it would be silly to give someone mere merit on his or her singing technique, when the output is fantastic
Vivica, non sei solo una artista sublime, ma anche uno straordinario essere umano carico di saggezza e sensibilità. Beato chiunque abbia la possibilità di conoscerti e frequentarti.
Except they clearly aren’t destructive... She’s been singing for literal decades. (Probably longer than you’ve been alive) She still has all the flexibility she had 20 years ago along with the range and “quality of tone” shes always had. Don’t open your mouth if your “point” isn’t based in tangible reality. We get it, you’re a hater that’s gonna hate. But you’re a nobody with no achievements and while you’re pop cover singin ass sitting in your pjs picking apart an artist, she’s a major performer of the baroque on every operatic stage from San Francisco to La Scala. Get wrecked hoe.
@@LaDivinaLover imagine not being able to deal with your own emotions to the point of needing to violently project them onto others. I didn’t even criticize her singing, Jesus Christ. And I never said I was a better singer than anyone else either so for you to come to my channel and harass me because I triggered you is the definition of juvenile. That’s why I hate delusional opera fans that can’t accept their favorites aren’t always perfect. If you think you can sing better than me I look forward to your videos. I’m sure you won’t be using your jaw as a resonator or breath support.
@@LaDivinaLover You can also have my opinion. This coloratura she does is not destructive for the vocal instrument. It is distructive for the opera art.
I love it and admire her all the more after this video. It is very rare if not unique that a singer openly and publicly admits about a certain “imperfection” in her technique. Her articulation in fioritura is of course not the free floating legato standard of Bel Canto technique, it is certainly more labored and the knowledgeable listener can’t miss that nevertheless it isn’t an imprecise struggle that we hear with Coloratura wannabes who obsess butchering scores they don’t have the instrument for. Similar to this case is Deutekom. In my opinion one of the greatest sopranos in history whose overall technique, astonishingly powerful and precise instrument and artistic intelligence far outweighed her peculiar glottal legato in fioritura passages. Different case is Bartoli. She is simply too labored and mannered and her gargling kills the whole score for me.
@@berzubirze She sings with constricted jaw, tongue and ugly nasal sound (beacuse her velum has wrong position). A lot of technical flaws....but if you happy with it, enjoy! She doesn't sing a single OPERA SOUND. Lower larynx with free released air is the condition for opera sound. You can even see, how she is forming fioritura with her lipps. Real opera sound is produced with VOCAL CORDS. And that's what we call supported sound.Firm, solid sound with core. And not just breathy wwwwwwww. But as I said: if you like it, sure, go for it.
I know there are other performance of her. I know each of them. Each one is different from the other and this is why I wanted to hear this better. I love her and her speaking.
Taboo about singing techniques or difficulties with your voice is restricted to the classical world. In all other music genres people talk openly about it. No big deal. Because we are all here to learn from each other, that `s whatt music is, or should be about. It`s not a protected formula for the knowledgable few you have to guard with your life, like the ancient alchemists formula to turn mud into gold. Halas, for those singers who thought a perfect technique is what true musicianship is all about. It `s not. Vivica Genaux has more musicianship in her little toe then you negative commentators have in your whole inflated egos
Imagine a violinist or a pianist who plays virtuosic rep but is hunched over or fingers and elbow backwards and contorted to the point where you think they have a disability. And audiences spending hundreds for decades to watch them, then you interview them and they explain it by saying "that's how I enjoy to play, so it's OK." That's basically this.

If it works, it works, and that`s all that matters in music
I'm not a musician but i really don't understand why she's famous though bad vocal technique. She sounds very strange and her insane jaw's work is not good. Diaphragm must work to create vibrato and to sing thrills but not a jaw. Vivica herself honestly admitted here that she likes to sound "ugly". Good words! But it doesn't means that people want to hear ugly and weak singing from such a famous singer! Her Agitata da due venti is a whole tutorial how you MUSTN'T sing if you want to sound good!..
She is a soprano coloratura. No mezzo whatsoever! And you are very right; people seem to like poorly cared voices with awful technique. There you have Netrebko, as an example, completely ingolata. Horrible.
She's telling her secret to sing ugly! She even says it openly! It might be fun, but it's far from good singing. So a singer telling her secrets not to sing properly... No, thanks.
actually, it `s not that much of a secret. A lot of excellent singers, classical, pop, rock, chanson, all genres you can imagine (but probably you only live in the Protected Habitat of Classical Music) use onortodox and personal singing techniques to acchieve great sound. Mostly a very unique sound, and not necissaryly very pleasing to the ear at first. But a good technique they developed, otherwise you dont have a career. God, when do classical musicians and singers come down from their ivory tower and learn a thing or two from the rest of the world....classical western singing is like...5 percent or so of existing music...a lot of classical singers i listnen to have ONLY technique, but are utterly boring to listnen to. Fantastic, her heartfelt description of the process is inspiring for all singers regardless of style.
So true!!!
Your voice is beyond amazing! Unbelievable execution of the most difficult coloratura repertoire in the literature!
it's Vivaldi. ; )
I LOOOOVE what she has to say! HOW GREAT! I"m so glad to have watched this.
The message!!!
What a genuine person! :)

Her performance of Stabat Mater with Sabina Puertelas is so outstanding. Certainly worth seeking out on YT.

MaravilhosaMente ViViCa! Gracias!
She is so beautiful and humble. I admire her
Wow, impressive, open, sharing with integrity.
A very generous artist with a wonderful gift.
She has a lovely voice even when speaking.
One of my teachers told me: If you have a good speaking voice, half of my job is already done.
Thanks for sharing. I do really need to learn this kind of things. I do really appreciate. She is awesome
She is so wonderful and talented!
She's wonderful!
3:23 is so touching...
You better get rid of your nasality, and your singing will be great
Glorious voice, bubbly and uncomplicated personality
Lovely. Truly inspiring!

I'm left speechless. Divine.
Hermosa y potente voz, técnica, coloratura; Dios existe
Amazing history! Awesome and tremendous personality.
Right! Youre the one to follow. Ticking all the boxes.
Vivica, you're Top 10
barok operaların, klasik dönem operaları gibi söylenmemesi gerektiğini bilen, çok kendine özgü, çok muazzam bir şarkıcı. hayranıyım bu kadının 👌👍💐
Bravissima Vivica!
Wonderful voice, wonderful personality.
Inspiring story. Love it.
found you here on one of the videos that inspired me :) Love your work Katarina!
I love this ❤
That was interesting, and informative
perfection ❤❤❤
down to earth, actually salt of the earth... Magnifica !
I love her....
That’s my ant
Love you Vivica
If you know what aria this is please comment for me. I've been trying to find it.
Hi Esther, the aria is from Act II of the Vivaldi opera, Griseldi, and it is called "Agitata da due venti." Hope you enjoyed the video!
thank you for this!
They coloratura here is just unreal ... so hard!
It is indeed unreal, because this is not coloratura (the way she sings it). Look up for Galli Curci's Lakme or Tetrazzini or Nellie Melba.
You can be creative without destructive vocal habits.

😍😍😍👏👏👏
Where is appoggio? The whole sound is produced with lipps and jaw. Body?
Mickey Mouse ihre Body funktioniert einfach, weil sie singt damit, man kann nicht es merken.
Dear Mickey! Do the appoggio for your own voice and sing happily ever after!!! ;)

Ah! I've finally found someone who shares my opinion.
Quelle virtuosité ! Impressionnant...

If you can sing it slowly... 😊
Dear WFMT, can we have also the whole aria without her speaking? It is a marvellous execution from Vivica and orchestra!

Just search for it, there are other recordings on RUclips

It's a shame that the singing is too loud to really hear what she is saying, because what she is saying here is incredibly valuable.
which song is she singing here?
Agitata da due venti, from La Griselda by Vivaldi
You `re just yeallous. I`m too, but I don `t blame her for that.

beautiful but little bit behind cecilia bartoli version.
