Few people bother to investigate the history of the papacy, it's fascinating, completely unholy, makes anything that happens in and around the Vatican today look tame.

Bad behavior is one thing. But disfiguring and muddying doctrine, and attacking ancient Catholic rites while playing buddy buddy with atheists and Muslims is quite another. In this way, today's Vatican is without precedent.

Jacob, some of us fear but want a conclave to restore, hopefully, the Church, as currently it is being attacked, quite successfully, from within.

It’s amusing that cardinals in Conclave are sworn to secrecy under pain of excommunication, but somehow we always get details, down to the vote count on each ballot.

I don't think Robert Harris can write a really bad(artistically speaking) book. I am a fan. However, "Conclave" is rather cheap. He's just riding the current stupid gender bandwagon to sell that year's book. Catholics, beware! I think the general public have overdosed on Hollywood schtick about Catholicism, so yet another film will just pass under the radar.

It is too bad people know so little about Catholic organisational history. You don’t have to be a Catholic to study the governance of the church and it is one hell of a ride. There is not a single multinational organisation that has approx 1800 years of history behind it. Just adopting the good elements of the organisational model and statutes of the Jesuit’s would have benefited some companies I worked for enormously.

There was no canonical objection to female cardinals in almost 1.500 years of written church history. :) The last lay cardinal died around 1890 if I remember correctly. One pope decided all cardinals had to be ordained priest, another pope decided cardinals had to be ordained bishop and a future pope could abolish the ordination requirements, reinstate the lay cardinals and appoint a women to the college of cardinals. Even now, some priests who are created cardinals after the age of 80 get a papal dispensation and remain a priest instead of a bishop.

Pray for a Catholic Pope. Pray that Pope Francis repents and resigns.
