oh how i hated mike tyson for many years i could not stand to hear his name. but when i see his life and the hard road he walked all my hate tuned to love for this man and now there is nothing more i would like then to shake his hand and call him a friend.
We will never know if a 1987 Tyson could beat a 1997 Lennox but, it's clear that Tyson was far beyond his prime in this fight. Lennox was a great fighter, but Tyson in his prime, was not only scary, but unpredictable. Cos had him dialed in. When Cos died, Tyson's spirit and technical superiority did as well.
Lewis should win, he's bigger, stronger "!? tyson been knocking niggas out twice his size when he was weighing like 215, 216 pounds back in 86 at least, Tyson in his prime no rassclart doubt about it, would've knocked the fuck outta Lewis ffs, I wish tyson worked on his speed and stamina for the Lewis fight but no excuses
Tyson will forever be the most destructive fighter god has ever created! he was trained to kill, if it wasn't for all the leaches no one could've stop him.
This fight broke my heart. I remember watching Mike since as far back as I can remember. I remember sitting in front of the tv and having this sense of pride having a strong black man to look up . The truth is I knew Mike had changed, I could see tell by his theatrics outside of the ring, but I wanted so bad for Mike to be the old Mike again. This loss was the end of an era to me. ***Sidenote: Damn I would love to see him fight like our champion just one more time and go out as a fighter.
I hate watching the Lennox fight. I dont know but I feel that Mike was made to fight that fight. He said himself, " my hearts not in this no more ". And it showed. He fought like a finished Mike not like Iron Mike Tyson. Im a whitie,so his colour was not relevant to me but Tyson was still something very special in my child hood. It WAS and end of an era, a wonderful era of boxing.........but it was the start of a new and happier Mike Tyson I believe. Good luck to him.
Lol the last person to talk was so negative like he really didn't like Tyson. People will talk about Tyson long after he's dead. He's a legend as for the commentator at the end that may go for him, that when he's buried no one will bring him up anymore but Tyson was a sight to see in his prime
Ulas Oing Tyson will be talked about until the end of time. Boxing will always be around. I believe Mike Tyson is the best boxer that has ever lived. He is a technical offensive and defensive genius, and a good man with a big heart.
Mike Tyson can never be broke ... he could sell a pair of signed boxing gloves or do a meet and greet for thousands anytime he chose , he's still a multi millionaire
Tyson was washed up by this fight. He was tired and fighting flat footed, no movement, by the 3rd and 4th round. Lennox was too tall, leaned on him too much, and just exhausted him. Damn shame they didn't fight a decade earlier.
+RyuHayabusa06 When would they have fought that Tyson fans would have accepted the outcome? Tyson lost to an unexceptional fighter in Douglas (who then promptly surrendered the title to Holyfield) when he was only a 24-year-old kid just barely out of his teens, and yet his fans cry that he was already out of his mythical, impossible-to-find "prime" at that point. When Tyson won, he was the most impressive, unstoppable fighter, and no man could have stood against him. When Tyson lost, it wasn't "really" Tyson, because he wasn't in his prime anymore, or there was a long count, or he partied too hard, or he ate something that didn't agree with him, or maybe the sun got in his eyes or something. It's nothing but one excuse after another. Anyway, it couldn't "really" have been Tyson because if it were "really" Tyson, he'd have won. Do you understand what I'm saying? This is what Tyson's fans do, over and over. Tyson winning is always proof of his utter dominance. Tyson losing just means he wasn't in his prime or partied too much or something. And never ... NEVER ... do his fans apply this same reasoning to Tyson's OPPONENTS. He built his hype career knocking out a bunch of cans and long-past-prime (really long-past, as in not 24-year-old kids who'd just gotten started) has-beens, yet every win is proof of Tyson's greatness, and the quality of his opponents and their condition at that stage in their respective careers is utterly irrelevant. Here's the truth about Tyson: the moment he went up against a halfway decent fighter with reasonable footwork and reach and a competent jab who wasn't afraid of him, despite said fighter also having a very suspect chin ... he got put away. He got put away at a YOUNG, LEAN, STRONG 24 years old. He was exposed as the hype he always was. And Lewis was much ... MUCH better.
Look, Tyson's prime was probably 86-89. Towards the end, after Jones was gone, Cayton had been fired, and Rooney was let go, Tyson wasn't the same. He was drugged up on anti-depressants and wasn't training the way he should've. Buster Douglas caught Tyson when he was in a bad spot with all the outside the ring drama going on with Robin Givens, doped up on drugs, and not training right. He was even knocked down sparring by Greg Page. After that, he looked good against Ruddock and then lost the next four years to jail. Maybe he never would've beaten Lennox even then due to his size advantage, reach, and ability to lean and hold on smaller fighters. Still, I think it's funny that every guy Tyson beat was a tomato can and every guy Ali beat somehow becomes a legend when often times their only claim to fame is losing to Ali.
RyuHayabusa06 Oh look, a Tyson fan making a lot of excuses for him, just like I said. By the way, I should correct myself: Tyson technically hadn't hit the 24 years of age mark, so really, he was technically still 23 when he lost to Douglas. Also, Tyson never once got up off of the canvas to win a fight. Let me say that one more time: Tyson never once, in his ENTIRE CAREER, got up off of the canvas to win a fight. You're telling me a guy who loses IN HIS PRIME (don't even try -- he was absolutely still young, strong, and in his prime) to a mediocre contender, never successfully gets up off of the canvas to win a fight, never beats anyone meaningful who isn't long past-prime, and never throughout his career avenges any losses ... that he even deserves a mention in the same sentence as Ali? GTFO. As for Ali, sure, he beat some nobodies (EVERY great fighter beats some nobodies along the way), but he also took on some serious competition. When he took the title from Sonny Liston, Sonny was much the same then as what Tyson would be viewed as later: an indestructible force of nature who absolutely annihilated anyone who dared set foot in the ring with him. Had it not been for Ali, Sonny might well have retired still holding the title and would certainly be remembered as one of the top ATGs. A decade later, a LEGITIMATELY past-prime (far from shot, but definitely past-prime) Ali squared off against a prime George Foreman and shocked the world by beating him and regaining his title. Foreman, too, would probably have held the title for years and probably retired with it if not for Ali. In fact, Foreman was so incredible that even an overweight, geriatric Foreman who came back much later was still a little too much for the more modern crop of fighters and actually briefly REGAINED the title 20 YEARS LATER!!! THAT is how inhumanly destructive he was ... and yet he still lost to a past-prime Ali while he was in his prime. Meanwhile, Tyson, while still young and in his prime, lost to a guy who immediately lost the title afterward himself. And you want to COMPARE these two men? Again ... GTFO.
+n0wheregrrl exactly right. Tyson was fundamentally an extremely gifted fighter, but he was missing something that would propel him to being an all time great.
n0wheregrrl Yes, Tyson was still young and strong, but his head was completely fucked. He was in the middle of a divorce. Kevin Rooney was gone. He was doped up on anti-depressants half the time. Hell, he was up all night screwing Japanese chicks at the hotel the night before the fight. He was not in the same mindset as he was when he was crushing Michael Spinks, Larry Holmes, Pinklon Thomas and others. Yeah, Larry Holmes was old but he was undefeated just two years earlier. People like to talk about Sonny Liston but he only defended his title ONCE before losing it. George Foreman only defended his title TWICE before losing it. Later in his career he beat a bunch of bums and won the title from Moorer who was a joke and only won because of Holyfield's heart condition. Again, you have a bunch of fighters who are now legends, at least in part, because they lost to Ali. Heck, Joe Frazier never beat anyone other than Ali. He got knocked the fuck out by Foreman twice. The only other guys he fought were punching bags like Chuvalo and Quarry. All these guys are elevated because they fought Ali, and Ali is elevated because of his civil rights era activism. He became an icon and thus is put on a pedestal, like Jimi Hendrix. On the top of all the 100 greatest guitarist lists because he died young and became an icon even though there are plenty of more talented and skilled players before and after him.
Lewis does not get the credit he deserves , he lost twice in his career and went on to beat those two guys , he was the undisputed heavy weight champion but without all the hype that other so called notorious fighters have , Lewis was actually a great fighter. Tyson was an animal in the ring, and I think if they had met a few years earlier it may have been a lot closer.
LOL. "I'm gonna eat yo kids" Tyson didn't know Lewis had named his gloves "KIDS" and Tyson damn sure ate them!!1 MT cried like a baby when he got to his locker room!
All I will say is that Mike Tyson has been through a lot. Many may judge him, but I won't. In his prime, I personally enjoyed watching Mike Tyson. And I still tuned into boxing when he was fighting beyond his prime. I honestly can's say that about boxing today.
People get too caught up on boxers win loss record and who won or lost any given fight. Mayweather has a more impresseve win loss than Tyson, but who are we going to remember in 50 years time. Tyson was utterly obsessed with boxing in his early days and it showed.
great video! i am both a Tyson and Lewis fan I respect both and think both are deserving of equal rights in the ring no matter day month of year , peace out
Here is the deal... IM not one to say bullshit that didn't happen.. Lewis was great cause he was not only disciplined inside and outside of the ring, but he had a lot of physical advantages.. Tyson was always at a physical disadvantage his whole career... That means tyson had to be that much better than his opponents. Stronger, faster, more ferocious. When he was at his best mentally and physically he was able to do that... But if he isn't at his best... Hes going to be at the disadvantage... He was already heading on a downward slope even before he went to prison.. Prison was just the finisher... No way is someone going to come out of jail for years with a physical disadvantage and beat the best fighter of the era who is in perfect conditioning with all the physical advantages.. Tyson at his best to me was something special and that is why he became so infamous.. Lewis was just the overall better fighting throughout the length of his career... Who was better in their specific primes is speculation... But the only thing we can all agree on if we have a brain.. Is that when Tyson fought Lewis.. Lewis was right on target in every way a fighter could be.. and tyson was a shell of his former self... I think everyone should at least agree on that..
Tyson took more power shots from a genuine power puncher than I've ever seen anyone else take before. Lennox Lewis at his best could contend with anyone in the history of the HW division. I rate him at #3, behind Ali and Louis.
Lennox was a great athlete, but during his career I thought he was nursed after winning a gold medal I expected him to fight better fighters earlier. He only managed decisions against his better contenders and was KO'd twice by two guys that whose only chance against him was knockout. He was well managed and IMO a bit mythologized. A champion indeed, something less than a great.
+teachm3539 Tyson's management was just as cautious in slowly bringing their fighter a long (take a look at his record in first half of his career) Lewis avenged both losses and was the undisputed World heavyweight champion.
Agreed. MT is still the youngest HW champion ever. It would've been greater to watch TYSON pre-prison with his K. Rooney, HOLYFIELD, BOWE and LEWIS to fight multiple times. Before anyone could claim someone was less than they may have been. As far as avenging Losses goes. His chin was suspect and his attention or lack of it, IMO, leaves him out of the category of others that though they were defeated, were not by underdogs and not KO'd.
Lennox Lewis always had an inferioty complex regarding Mike Tyson. He to this day stresses in so many interviews how he beat Mike Tyson and that he is the greatest in that Era, knowing deep down in his heart that he doesnt even come close to the greatness of Tyson. Tyson will be remembered in 100 Years, no one will speak of Lennox Lewis. In his prime he would have destroyed him
Mike was just fighting to pay his bills. He wasn't fighting with any determination, if he was in his prime he would have beaten Lewis, however counting it as it is, I would say Lewis is forever in Tysons shadow. That's the truth, he couldn't get the legend and attention that tyson will forever have.
10:25 This is my first time actually seeing the boxing bell so all I can say is: What the fuck? I didn't know it was done by hand. Why not just automate it? I suppose it really doesn't make a difference in the end. It must be a "tradition" thing.
Tyson wouldve knocked Lennox out if Rooney was his trainer and pre-prison,after prison Mike was a shot fighter but could still KO B list fighters. When they sparred as kids/teenagers,Mike knocked Lewis out of the Ring in the 1st round,Lennox got back in though. The Tyson of 1986-88 would have KO'd Holyfield too.Once King got Tyson his skills eroded rapidly.
+Raven Teruel Yeah, so annoying! Do you have any idea as to how youtube posters can post copywright stuff without it being blocked? I tried different things but youtube still blocks the videos.
thanks I will try that as soon as I can. I tried to upload some boxing stuff from Muhammad Ali that I edited and some other basketball stuff. Hope it will work so I can continue posting some edited specials that others might enjoy. thanks for your tip...!!!
4:33 says it all! Tyson would have crushed him back then. Lewis peaked later in his career and when he finally fought Tyson he fought a Tyson who was clearly passed his prime.
+Hard Knocks : do me a favor, shut up. He does have a british accent, Ive been there 7 times and he clearly has a british accent, you're just another racist jealous fool. Broke fool at that.
Just layed on his back. Great fighters come off the canvas to win. Tyson "Never" came off the canvas to win because he was really a coward at heart. All rapists are cowards.
Lewis was the better boxer, Tyson had a lot of power but not a lot of boxing intelligence. People say that Tyson wasn't in his prime are just talking rubbish since Lewis is older than Tyson. Lewis just outsmarted and outboxed Tyson
+AJ Kember (When it comes to boxing) As a fighter ages there are a few things he begins to lose: first is their natural atheletecism/ explosiveness (Tyson, Roy Jones, Frazier) then the legs (Ali), but yhey never lose skill. a fighter may age, slow down, gain weight. all of that factors into how one uses those skills but they're still there. (james toney, bhop, floyd) Mike's style has a shorter career "life- span" because it depends on his explosiveness. Lewis' sstyle isnt as explosive and doesnt require him to be explosive everyday in training/ sparring. Mike's style wore down his body much quicker than lewis' did
to attain worldwide fame in boxing.. you need to be black and an american.. try to deny that? you cant... its fact... mike tyson name is so well known even in remote corners of the world... ask about klitscho.. lennox or any other non americsn boxers.. good chance those in remote corners of world they dont know
Most of the well known ufc fighters are white foreigners. Why do you care? Since it's inception boxing has been mostly an American sport. But the fighters are diverse. You're commenting with no REAL knowledge of boxing. There's Cotto,Paquio(excuse my spelling),The Golden Boy etc. What are you trying to prove? People like Tyson had bad childhoods. That mentality gave them strength. Happens to be a lot of black people who excel in boxing. So what?
Lewis should man up and admit he didn't beat at his best Tyson.instead he talks as if he beat a prime Tyson.how can someone act as if they did something so big.when fact is he only accomplished beating a man not nearly the fighter he was.
Its clearly that Iron Mike fading at that time and he should not fight and should leave the ring as we knew him a power of destruction , but its seems to be the money drives boxer down to the well of failure same shit happened to Ali , holmes , louis and so on and please cut the shit of english style that give me headache well let me remember u about the english style when Hagler beats minter and got beers bottles flying to him
If Tyson was in his prime....i'm getting tired of this. It sounds to me that Tyson was an old man here vs a young guy who's in his prime, but it ins't. Lewis and also Holyfield where both older than Tyson. This Tyson is still the boxer with the same genetics, not even old for a heavyweight. One of the greatest, but i don't believe in that "prime" talk.
Tyson wasn't in his prime cause of his life... He wasn't meant for fighting anymore while lewis was still in the best shape of his life.. Lewis got better as he got older.. Tyson got worse.. its as simple as that. Once he went to prison he was done, and even before prison he was on a downward slope.

David Humby Life is not always friendly to some people.
this is true i have been lucky all my life compared to tyson
Martin280967 true compared to tyson i have been lucky
David Humby and broke, LOL :p
+David Humby you have a song right there.....!!!!
With all due respect Lennox Lewis, you fought an old, slow, and tired Tyson.
And a tyson who didnt even want to fight.
Greg Cotter Was that his fault ? Or the fault of Tyson, who FYI paid Lennox $3M dollars to not fight him in the mid 90s
Greg Cotter Many say Tyson was old, few remember that Lewis was the same age.
Tyson was scary and unpredictable, with spirit and technique. But it was only ever visible against second rate fighters.
If the fought when mike was in his prime Tyson would fucking rip him apart
Gokberk Turkce There are literally 0 facts or reasons to support your claim.
vuk991 DId you watch the fucking video at all, dumbass?
IASIAN FUNTAGE
Yes, I did... And? Lewis was simply a better boxer, with more heart than Tyson. It is an awful miss match for Mike.
Guys who did not hit as hard a Tyson knocked out Lewis can you think what would happen if Tyson hit Lewis in his prime
coperpot100
Boxing doesn`t work that way.
Mike Tyson beat Mike Tyson point blank period!

From my knowledge it's been replaced. This was years ago bud.
What's the biggest win on Tyson's record? When Tyson fought good game competition he would fold and quit.
the more i see mike the more i get motivated. its so disheartning when i see him in his present condition.
Still can't believe Buster beat him...
The Tyson of 1986-88 would have KO'd Holyfield too.Once King got Tyson his skills eroded rapidly.
lewis the kissarse klitschko!!!!! Vitali Klitschko that is
Tyson could take a hit that's for sure.
iron man

+Raven Teruel
Yeah, so annoying! Do you have any idea as to how youtube posters can post copywright stuff without it being blocked?
I tried different things but youtube still blocks the videos.
+The Wiffle Try putting "No copyright infringement intended" in the description.
thanks I will try that as soon as I can. I tried to upload some boxing stuff from Muhammad Ali that I edited and some other basketball stuff. Hope it will work so I can continue posting some edited specials that others might enjoy. thanks for your tip...!!!
+The Wiffle No prob man. looking forward to watching more of your uploads
It's called getting jewed
Whatever anyone says Tyson WAS a great champ.
Armchair critics should try fighting some of these guys.
Lennox lewis = the most overrated heavyweight champ... He caught Tyson well out of his prime
what about everyone else he fought like holyfield who beat Tyson.. or the fact a young Tyson ducked him
The Truth I bet my life you are a white kid who wears glasses
Tyson got Humbled that night!
love it hate tyson back then.
Lewis would never have beat him in his prime.
4:33 says it all! Tyson would have crushed him back then. Lewis peaked later in his career and when he finally fought Tyson he fought a Tyson who was clearly passed his prime.
Jim lampley quote "Lewis has a British accent". The fuck he does. Some of us Brits didn't like him for that reason, not including myself.
Brian Nielsen I liked Lewis even thoe he didn't have a British accent. There's nothing wrong with my Teeth. You Mug!
+Hard Knocks : do me a favor, shut up. He does have a british accent, Ive been there 7 times and he clearly has a british accent, you're just another racist jealous fool. Broke fool at that.
+Hard Knocks : then stop flip flopping
Lewis would have beaten Tyson at any time of their careers.
Just layed on his back. Great fighters come off the canvas to win.
Tyson "Never" came off the canvas to win because he was really a coward at heart. All rapists are cowards.
Hope you don’t mind saying it to his face.
(james toney, bhop, floyd)
Mike's style has a shorter career "life- span" because it depends on his explosiveness. Lewis' sstyle isnt as explosive and doesnt require him to be explosive everyday in training/ sparring. Mike's style wore down his body much quicker than lewis' did
Tyson was no match for Lewis so I guess Tyson wasn't the best
Tyson was slow, and overweight. After coming out of prison his defense had worsened, his head movement had slowed, and his reflexes had slowed.
to attain worldwide fame in boxing.. you need to be black and an american.. try to deny that? you cant... its fact... mike tyson name is so well known even in remote corners of the world... ask about klitscho.. lennox or any other non americsn boxers.. good chance those in remote corners of world they dont know
Most of the well known ufc fighters are white foreigners. So what?
Lewis should man up and admit he didn't beat at his best Tyson.instead he talks as if he beat a prime Tyson.how can someone act as if they did something so big.when fact is he only accomplished beating a man not nearly the fighter he was.
j.c.m hard core metal fan don't matter brah he still lost
louis DID NOT BEAT HIM IN HIS PRIME....PLAIN AND SIMPLE
I like both of them, but Mike will KO lewis in his prime.
You do know Lewis is older than Tyson
+AJ Kember but an older taller fighter is better than a short swarmer who lost all his love for boxing.no killer instinct in this fight dude
Lennox pushed Tyson clearly down to the canvas. Went on unnoticed and inconsidered by the referee. Unfair decision.
Its clearly that Iron Mike fading at that time and he should not fight and should leave the ring as we knew him a power of destruction , but its seems to be the money drives boxer down to the well of failure same shit happened to Ali , holmes , louis and so on and please cut the shit of english style that give me headache well let me remember u about the english style when Hagler beats minter and got beers bottles flying to him
Lennox Lewis is a Champion. He has always been a competent and respectful pugilist. Poetic Justice
Lenox you beat a past prime Tyson.
LEWIS >>>> TYSON
Boxing is a joke. This is a joke. Some male fantasy bs.
