- I talk about the Moondrop Kato IEM in this video. Still good in 2023 with all the new IEM's on the market? $189 is an amazing deal for the sound quality.

These are one of the few IEM sets that actually has soundstage to any extent for any thing $200 bux and below. One of my favorites.
Agreed. For the price, to me they are the closest to listening to a good pair of near-field monitor speakers - very surprising.
Amazing review, thank you for this! For the price these seem like the best ones so far for me. I'm going to use them mostly for gaming but I'm sold! 😁
Those are on my wish-list and am so looking forward to trying them with my Astel&Kern AK HC3 DAC. For right now I have the KZ-ZS10 Pro IEMs that are decent enough. I am actually on my 2nd pair of those after losing one of them because of the Cable-Socket wearing down, and the IEM coming lose. Thanks for making this video!
This is great! Thank you for the review
Thanks
Ah, a fellow metal enjoyer. Exactly who I've been looking for.
I got these for 100 usd, thanks for validating my purchase lol
For 100 that's a steal, no competition.
i got these today for $44 :)
@iamnobody2 that's crazy, did you get them used?
@@ArthurYouT I work at a reverse logistics company, it was a return, clean and had all the toys and nozzles and stuff though
Me too, I got mine for around 45 dollars, haha😂
I just ordered these for $137 including fast shipping from your link! Do you have any suggestions for a budget upgrade from my current FX Audio DAC-X6 mkII desktop dac/amp to go along with the Katos? My IEMs now are CCA-CCRs. I'm stepping up a little bit with the iEMs so I'm thinking about stepping up the amp too.
Thanks for ordering from my link. Helps the channel greatly. Amazing IEM btw. Much better than the CCA CCR. I also have that one and good value but cannot compete in any way. I actually still use the ccr at work. As for DACs and amps, just depends on what you like. You don’t need much power. I would recommend the cayin ru7 as R2R and plenty of power. Saves you money and very versatile. If going for a headphone I might point you to separates. You can see what I used in my video and the cayin will save you a ton of money.
The bass is perfect, isn't? Also, I finally ended up going for the spring tips with copper filters. Much better imaging and sound depth. For something like Dead Space Remake is DOPE.
I am looking for some other tips to try out though... The spring tips are super comfy, but I not really good isolation.
Also, I'm running it out of a Fiio K7. With a balanced cable, I noticed the soundstage gets bigger, though it doesn't sound as rounded out as the og cable unbalanced.
still good until today ?😅 im asking this in 24th JULY 2023... what is suitable/reasonable price for KATO in today (now) ? will you recommend KATO or Tanchjim KARA ?
I love the sound, build quality and packaging of the kato. You can find this open box for around $130 and a great deal. I assume moondrop will release a second version since they’ve been releasing second gen models lately.
@@ThriftShopReviews thank you Sir..your opinion so helpful 👍
How about in 2024? Does the Kato still make sense especially for gaming? Because I'm close on a decision to purchase them.
I think it’s still a good value but it depends on the sound signature you’re looking for. The aful performer 5 is on sale at this moment and is amazing.
@@ThriftShopReviews I want to use the Kato to play Escape from Tarkov where sound positioning is critical. In that respect I don't think the performer 5 is better than the Kato at least according to different reviews.
How does Kato compared to Kiwi Ears Orchestra Lite and Aful Performer 5? As these IEMs are direct competitor.
The direct competitors are always changing in this market and rapidly. I like kiwi ears a lot but much more warm compared to the kato. Kato build quality is excellent also. Don’t have the aful performer and will see if I can get a review sample. At the end of the day I absolutely love moondrop products. Perfect to my ears but some might want a little more bass. All about your preferences.
In my experience the Kato sound better than all the IEMs you've mentioned above. You need the AFUL Performer 8 to get better sound. I use them with Final type E tips and the brass tubes.
Got any better alternatives at the same price or higher?
Tangzu heyday $189 & aful performance 5 on $220
main concern i got are the filter. i did change them, but they are always sold with the nozzle. is their a way to have the proper filter without nozzle ?
You want to change the filter within the nozzle?
hi. How is it compare to Aful p5?
they make shipments to Peru?
i really like these headphones but the cable is bothering the outside of my ears. would getting a different cable help with that? If so any cable you would recommend? Or does that mean I should just stay away from in ears?
I’ve never had an issue with iem cables. Does it look like a rash or just abrasion? Could be some kind of plastic allergy? Some cables are softer and some harder. The moondrop cables are really nice and have a strain relief built into the cable to help prevent irritation. Perhaps the general shape doesn’t match your ear shape? Maybe try a cable without the preshaped strain relief ?
I have this issue at first since the earhooks are soft and the cable was heavy. You may change the cable, or make sure that earhooks was placed firmly between your ears and temple.
Are these the same fit as the Moondrop Starfield. I tried to google the nozzle diameter but they come up as vastly different sizes yet look like the same shells. I'm trying to upgrade form the Starfield as I find them to be a little too warm and not resolving enough for my music library. I need that extra sparkle and clarity and I haven't found anything better recommended then the Kato for the price or going up a tier the Blessing 3 now but I question if those will fit my ears.
Everyone likes to talk on and on about graphs and sound but no one talks about the fit of IEMs.
They fit me perfect and I use medium tips if that helps. It was bit hard to get the tips on so I would say the nozzle is a bit larger than normal but not huge. Kato is great but moving up likely can get you more. All depends on choice and hard to test unless you attend an audio event or store.
@@ThriftShopReviews Thanks.
Which dac/amp should i pair with moondrop kato any suggestions?
How do you compare these to Timeless?
Kato is nester in my opinion. Better looking better build and sound. But it’s all up to your preferences. I think small planars are cool but after a while… I prefer something like the kato
how big are the nozzles ? i had truthear crinacle zeros and the nozzle was so big, that i couldnt use them
I replied to a comment down below about the nozzle size. Thanks for asking
Are these better than the talos?
I like both but think the kato is slightly better
Imma say yes
The Talos just sound really thin to me.
say it right
