    Kick ass box!!! Sharp,Panasonic,JVC all made killer boxes from about 77 to 83 or so. Its a testament to Japanese build quality,that many of these are still running some 35 to 40 years after they were built. Rock on!!!👍👍

      Yep, and even though its not as pretty as this Sharp GF1000, I have (2) Panasonic RF-2200, and the performance on AM/FM and shortwave is stellar. Recapping is all that's needed to bring them back to new. The Japanese knew how to make a radio! They made radio's ahead of there time, but they were not cheap then and certainly NOT now for vintage models.

    OMG that looks like it could take off into orbit. You cannot touch the boom boxes from the 80s. And cassette tech. Loved them so much. Nowadays everything is high tech and high memory storage. But somethings been lost.
    The warm hands on feel of cassettes. Being able to record music on the fly from multiple sources and have you own music on the same cassette if youre a musician as the artists that inspire you.

      That's easily 15 watts per channel, maybe close to 25-30 with bass, spread out over 6 drivers. Very impressive for its time. My guess is, the 4 main drivers we see, are pushing 3-5 watts each, and then the 2 hidden tweeters for another 3-5w each. To keep the strain off the amplifier, the lowest frequency's (mid bass) were probably capped somewhere around 100-200hz so power was stable at RMS output without distortion.

    The Rolls Royce of Boomboxes in the 80's.
    I believe it took 16 D batteries.
    Or about two cases of Budweiser.

      @rapisuhamutarou5993 4 года назад

      GF-1000 have 4 inputs/outputs in front whereas GF-777 have 3 inputs/outputs. Also GF1000 is in Japanese whereas GF777 is in English.

    • @Mikey196969Boomboxer
      @Mikey196969Boomboxer 5 лет назад

      Where in the hell did you read that it is 60 watts lol!!!! Not one of the GF series are anywhere near 60 watts!

    • @heatherphilips9227
      @heatherphilips9227 Год назад +1

      @@Mikey196969Boomboxer Per channel, its possible for 45 watts. 3-5 watts per driver RMS (5*4) would be 20 watts, than another 3-5 watts for the tweeters (we cant see them) for another 10 watts. Factor in 1.0db of dynamic headroom at max volume with 10% THD and 45 watts of sound could be achievable for brief periods. Realistically though, 30 watts of clean audio (with less than 5% of THD) is more likely what these were knocking out. I wouldn't try and hold max volume at anything past 5% THD as this will burn the voice coils (crack the speaker-as its known). Remember, these drivers are small, and heat dissipation was not paramount. The cones did not move much, and so, heat would build up on the voice coils when pushed to the limit. The more bass the drivers had, the better for cooling, but harder on the amplifier. Audio with powerful portable boomboxes in those days was balancing act. 60 watts, no way, unless you like distortion and cracked speakers.
