Solo on the French River

  • I spent some time on the French River … during a heatwave … planning the route on the fly … during a holiday weekend. I was a bit tired, more than a bit, and truth be told the heat wiped me out. This paddling trip was to condition myself for my upcoming, intense Temagami/Chiniguchi trip after a series of semi-serious injuries.
The French River has a bit of everything: lots of river paddling, different than lakes, with only small portages, great weather, diverse scenery of the Georgian Bay, lots of friendly people and different types of navigation within the paddle itself.
It was a true experiment in the art of winging it, and being a planner, I did suffer a bit of anxiety with finding a camp each night, although it worked out nicely.
Lughnasadh was the sabbat, and I got into my intentions regarding the sabbats and my camps this trip. Bounty being the meaning of the season, I made full and delicious meals the whole trip while keeping my fragile “passenger” safe, moving them from camp to camp, up until the very end.
Also, I ate a clementine not a tangerine, lol. And just to be clear, while describing my broken watch, there was no connotation meant, except that it is an inexpensive watch and not made in Canada, therefore parts may have been unavailable. But lucky me, I was able to get it fixed, and it’s still my favourite!
    Until next time, Onward!

Looks like a great paddle! I loved your commentary surrounding the alligator boats 😂 Great nature shots as always and loved the shot of you in the tree. Looked so relaxing and contemplative. Oh and loved that you took the sunflowers on the whole trip with you. What a great idea! ❤
