I like this attaching the hub on the end of the spool, it' keeps it cool and you can drive it from the wheel mounting bolts directly. maybe attach cooling fins to the spoke holes too?
This looks like one of the best designs I've seen out there for a paraglider winch. Is this a one-off, or have you built any more? If the price was reasonable, I bet there would be a lot of people who would buy it!

The diameter is selected based on the torque of the drum: the required traction should be divided by the motor's nominal torque. For example: If I need to get 800 N traction, then the radius will be 800 N : 110 N/m = 7.2, then 1m of the motor arm : 7.2m = 0.139. The average diameter is then 0.139 x 2 = 0.277 m

The motor is availlable with different tuning (torque and rpm) We will use the 880rpm (idle) catalog data sheet version with a 270mm drum. Can your controller keep the torque constant, whatever the speed is (due to headwind and thermals), even with speed 0rpm (36km/h headwind)?
