    My aunt got me a german shepherd for my birthday. I was kind of nervous because of how active the dog was. I’m not a very active person but lately I’ve been taking 1 hour walks and actually enjoying the exercise! And i plan on going hiking with my dog when it gets warmer outside.

    Best training for a Shepherd pup I've ever found was having an older, very intelligent, Pitbull/border collie mix. He was a big dog, 120 lbs, and the older dog was around 55 lbs, but our Shepherd absolutely worshiped her. It was the easiest puppy training we've ever dealt with. He was trustworthy enough to leave alone in the house while we were gone at around 11 months old, never did anything bad while we were gone, because she was there to show him the way. We lost him at the age of 4 to epilepsy. She didn't make it 2 months after he died, just gave up I think. Best two dogs anybody could ever hope for.

    I have had 6 GSDs, all from Germany. My breeder goes to Germany for high level Schutzhund lines. My latest came with 10 generations of his ancestors. I started training him at 9 weeks of age, socializing him with children, contractors, parents of the kids and other dogs. When he acts properly, I say Thank you Charlie, good boy. I taught him not to chew the wrong things by teaching him to fetch his favorite toy. He loves that. He likes my company so much, the bond is strong. I agree with the tips, except I like the best breeder in my state. She has a line up for every litter, before they are born. She sells mostly to people who have bought dogs from her before.

    Got a Bernese Mountain Dog x German Shepherd at 9 weeks old. Have had her three days, now, and she is already going outside. We have had three accidents inside, but she's been pretty good being vocal when she wants to go outside. I started by giving her treats when she goes outside. I haven't reprimanded her for going inside, but I don't give her treats when she does. It seems to have gotten the message across well enough. I'm impressed how easily she's picking things up. I have noticed she likes chewing on everything. I grab her toy, and rile her up when she does so that she'll chew on that. She's currently in a puppy coma at my feet. lol

    Great video, I am on my second GSD and have another one confirmed coming in next month as a companion for my other GSD. I have had a lot better luck with dogs of any breed when I have a male and female both. They cause less problems and are happier because they have a companion to play with even though I play with them at least twice a day and take them for walks a few times a week. My male GSD is a great dog though I take him every where with me except on my motorcycle lol or on my weekly dates with my wife. I have a few chickens and its funny to watch him try and herd them back into they're coop. I think I will have a GSD from now on. I have had lots of different breeds in my life time but for me non beats the GSD.

    • @flashpan26
      @flashpan26 2 года назад +2

      @@kyleayers8722 If you are talking about a GSD They are not really outside dogs They should live inside with you. As far as the pooping and peeing every where all you have to do is stick his nose in it every time he poops or pees on the floor then take him to the door and show him how to scratch on the door so you will know to let it out or take it for a walk. That may seem a bit cruel but its all ways worked for me and it doesn't take long for him to get the message. I invested in a doggy door and it was some of the best money I ever spent as wall as fencing in my whole back yard so he cant rome all over the neighborhood and become a nascence. My neighbors will kill my dogs if they catch them in they're yard so I really have no choice. As far as chewing on things that is what puppy's do, they have to learn what to do and what not to do that is where you come in you are his teacher and mentor. You have to teach it good behaver. Puppy's have lodes of energy so you have to play with them be its companion and keep its mind busy. I personally play ball with my dogs twice a day for 20 to 30 minuets each time by throwing a ball for him and letting him chase it down and bring it back to me over and over lol. Plus I have an agility Corse set up and train them to run the Corse. Its great exercise for both you and your dog. And you should teach it tricks, mine know many. If you don't have time to do this or are a couch potato then you picked the wrong dog. You should give it to some one who dose have the time and will love it. GSD's are Velcro dogs who want to be with you constantly and by your side. They are great loving and loyal dogs and great companions. But its really cruel to leave them locked up in a room or outside.

      @@flashpan26 would you recommend one as a best friend/protector for someone in a wheelchair?

    • @flashpan26
      @flashpan26 2 года назад

      @@boofert.washington2499 Humm that is a tough question. It all depends on you and your lifestyle. For me the GSD is the best chose because I life a fairly active lifestyle. I go white water canoeing, camping , backpacking, hunting, and fishing .I also take 3 hikes per week to keep my weight down back in the woods in a very rural area where coyotes, bears, and panthers have been spotted. But for some one in a wheelchair i am not sure. GSD's are very active very energetic dogs. They are bred for herding after all. Even with my lifestyle I still have to play ball with him 2 times a day to keep him from bouncing off the walls. 20 minutes each ball session. He is a good dog though very intelligent, loving, loyal, and affectionate but not a true Velcro dog as he is able to find things to do when i am busy. As far as a guarding he makes a good watch dog as in he barks when he hears or sees something out side. Breeders are breeding the protection instinct out of dogs because of lawsuits but what they are doing is breeding in intelligence. GSD's are the third smartest dog breeds in the world now so they are highly trainable. I have taught mine many tricks. So if you want a true protection dog you have to train them to be that way but its easy with this breed. Mine weights 100 lbs plenty of weight to take down a man. I hope this helps best of luck finding your ideal dog breed.

    cool! I'm 13 and can't exactly get a dog at thr moment, since i live with my parents, but i am planning on getting a German Shepherd someday! There super cool dogs, and if trained right and brought up well, they can make amazing companions! I'm willing to spend days, weeks, months, even years training a dog like this., since there honestly one of my favourite breeds and they can also be amazing.
    There's a neighbour i have, who has (Or had, since my dad thinks one might've died) 2 german shepherds, and i dunno what happened to them, but they definitely had a bad upbringing. And what's even worse, I've heard the owners yelling at there dogs when they bark, which is honestly pretty cruel in my opinion. (It's not as bad as physical violence, but there constantly yelling at the poor things.) And, these dogs are super aggressive. They literally have to be on a lead constantly, and there constantly trying to attack people. I honestly feel really sorry for the poor dogs, but i feel a dog that aggressive should probably be put down, because it's probably in pain. (One of the causes of aggression in dogs is from pain, and this can range from mental to physical pain.)
    Anyways, great video! I do have a video idea! maybe you could do a video on this super awesome dog breed called "The Kangal Shepherd Dog," , ir just the Kangal Dog for short. There massive dogs, and are honestly one of the most beautiful dogs I've ever seen.

      Reward and affection training are the best methods.
      Positive reaction to good behavior and NO reaction to bad behavior.
      A dog only understands reactions so even a bad reaction can cause a dog to continue to behave badly.
      Use a clicker to keep your dogs attention. At first use it randomly to get the dogs attention and then when they start to react to the clicker, use it just as you give them a command. That way they learn that a click means you want them to do something. One click for attention and two or three clicks with positive reaction after the command has been fulfilled. The clicker will then become a very useful tool when you need to give commands at a distance.
      Now go and enjoy the best friend you will ever have. 🇬🇧👍😎👍🇬🇧

      I have a 4 month old puppy German Shepard. I barely was able to teach her to sit in 1 day of getting her. All dogs can be trained depending on experience and personality of the dog. If your GS is over 1 year old human years then I would say it's gonna be ugly training them. GS likes to be dominant and stubborn sometimes so you'll have to train hard and daily since GS were bred for having a leader guide them.

      Hi. If you don't mind, will you please explain a bit further. I'm planning on getting a GSD within the next year or so when a puppy becomes available. I've only had smaller, older rescue dogs my whole life and haven't had to do much in terms of training because the dogs just made it easy. I want to get a GSD as a family dog/part of my home security. I'd appreciate your thoughts. A former coworker of mine said her GSD didn't meet the breed standard because he lacked confidence and would hid behind her when anyone came over.. Thanks!

    I just rescued a 2 month old German Shepard from our local dog shelter and she is the sweetest girl ever! She was a bit shy at first but she is warming up just fine! However I am having the hardest time to potty train! The first 2 days she went potty all over the house, right after I would take her for a walk. Today was the first day that she actually went out side! But not poo poo 😔 I usually take her right after she eats and no luck! Can I get some advise please. Thank you!

    • @Polarbearsrawesome
      @Polarbearsrawesome 3 года назад +3

      I have a 4 month old GSD. While she was easy to potty train in my opinion we still occasionally have an accident if we’re not quick enough. What helped us though was being consistent with times we took her out and making her “speak” before going out. That way if we are in another room and she has to go, she will bark and we know she probably has to go outside. She learned speak very fast we just had a high reward treat and barked at her and said speak until she did it. Now she sits at the door and barks once before being let out. Consistency is key with any puppy. It’s a frustrating thing to train a dog but so rewarding when it works out. Invest in an enzyme cleaner if you haven’t already so the dog doesn’t associate inside with potty time. And what worked for us may not work for you but it’s worth a try!

      @@Polarbearsrawesome thank you so much!!! I’m currently crate training her were on day 5 and she is doing amazing!!! No accidents in her crate! I take her out in the am as soon as I get up, and I take her out as soon as I get home from work. Now that my daughter is out of school she will be taking her mid day out for potty time. She’s had 2 accidents inside since potty training her which is not bad. I need to teach her how to let me know when she needs to go. So far I just notice she smells around and that’s my queue that it’s time to go! Lol

    • @johnl7944
      @johnl7944 3 года назад +5

      @@mayralopez1986 Don’t give up. Just be consistent and take her out every couple hours. They learn quickly but it is tough the first few days. Also, when you take her out of the crate, pick her up and take her out immediately. This usually prevents them from having accident when they come out of crate heading to the door.

    My sister just got a German Shepherd. She is a month and a week old and her name is Augi ❤. I am dog sitting the next few days. While she is a total sweetheart, she is currently always biting my arm and hand about 70% of the time when I pet her. I'm sure she is still teething a little, but I'm not sure how to get her to stop. My sister is reward training her right now. She has learned to sit, lay down, use puppy pads, and bark to go outside so far. How can I reward train her to stop biting...or is there another way? She kinda understands no, but that isn't working too well.

    I've never owned any other breed of dog. My GSDs have been the greatest friends in my life. Training does need to start early but if you get it right their intelligence makes it so easy. I have had my current GSD since she was a pup and she has never had a single toilet incident in the house, not one! I have to admit some of the hardest times in my life have been when my dogs have passed away and also the moment i take them away from their mum. Every time i have collected my new puppy i have taken them out the cage where they are with their mothers and the mum just looks at me with fear and it has always broken my heart knowing she has just watched her puppy go away and she will never see them again so when i took Aurora (my current GSD) I made a point of bringing her back to see her mum every couple of weeks for the first few months then i moved it to once every month since it is a long drive and now she is nearly 4 and her mum is retired from breeding so we all meet for a big walk once a month and they get really excited to see each other and it warms ma heart to see them playing together.
