    "I didn't say anything naughty... not yet!" She's adorable. What an amazing teacher and coach, and so very easy to convey what she needs for the students to understand. What a woman, and what great young singers!

    Thank you Kiri Te Kanawa for bringing attention to the fact that the Ave Maria is a prayer---I've heard it sung by many singers who have no idea of the mood monotone and spirit of the song.

    Dame Kiri is a most gracious teacher. What a privilege it must be for the students to attend her class. From the quality of the tenors' voices we have many years of wonderful operatic performances to attend.

    Kiri is brilliant in so many ways. Lovely teacher. She wasn't always my favorite singer in each role, but I remember seeing her in Traviata - I closed my eyes and said to myself, you will never again hear such a heavenly sound.

    It must be pretty nerve-racking to sing Strauss' Morgen in front of Kiri Te Kanawa. She sets such a high standard for four last songs and all the orchestral songs by Strauss.

    that version of "morgen" though... no where near it, in fact. but so nice from kiri that she still accepted to coach the singer despite that they were obviously not making a lot of progress.

    What a Tenor Michael Brandenburg, when they tell us there are no Tenors anymore today, they are wrong, because there are, but the conducers and leaders of Operahouses, most of them are incapeble, they do kwow nothing, already for more then 50 years!

    My goodness, Te Kanawa is simply breathtaking, even singing with the cracked noted ... her voice just simply has a deeper resonance. It's simply a gift. Her high notes are not just high, but they're deep and multi-dimensional. She is a treasure and I treasure every note she sings.

    I just watched a Schwarzkopf master class then this one by Kiri. What a difference. Kiri starts by listening and understanding the overall need of the student, then zeroes in on his or her major needs. Schwarzkopf cuts them off after two seconds and focuses on some minor detail of pronunciation. They seldom can get past four bars, while she looks at her audience and gets laughs at her student's expense. Kiri te Kanawa is everything a teacher should be: With her, it's all about the student. not about the teacher!

    • @Bumblebeebeebee
      @Bumblebeebeebee 4 года назад +1

      Schwarzkopf was a fantastic teacher and really lifted the quality of her students. And I say that as a singer myself. No need for any bashing just because the listener might not feel comfortable with a certain style of teaching. I assure you that the students are grateful.

    It's interesting at the end where she admitted that she only had one masterclass as a singer because of a harsh teacher. It's the age-old question, does a discouraging teacher help the student in the long run or does he/she destroy the student's confidence altogether?

    I would LOVE to know whether the tenor, Michael Brandenburg, has been able to go on to a career on the international stage! He too really has a spiritual connection with his music and wonderful interpretation and I could only fault him on the glottal-stop he uses in breaking off his top notes that might in time do some damage. Otherwise this a beautifully rich baritone quality tenor voice, much like Mr Kauffman.

    Did the students go out of their way to pick the most boring music possible? It takes a lot of analysis and phrasing to make simple melodies interesting and none of the students have the interest or maturity to do so.

  • @acacia-bloom
    @acacia-bloom 10 лет назад +1

    The first baritone is constantly flat - strange she didn't point that out.

    • @joshdaniels2363
      @joshdaniels2363 8 лет назад

      +Acacia Bloom He's also singing every single phrase essentially the same, he's singing through many of the rests ("vedro -- per man -- d'amore"), and he doesn't seem to be marrying the musical line with the text and what his character is saying and thinking. It feels very much as if he's on autopilot. Take a look at Joyce DiDonato working with Emmett O'Hanlon at Juilliard on this same piece. There's really a LOT more work to be done with it, besides keeping the pitch up (and the legato line flowing on the way down, which also doesn't seem to be going well).
