Excellent interpretation, what a profound understanding of the most poignant meaning of this little jewel . Sully Prudhomme's poetry is alas considered passé, what a shame. Fauré's melody touches the heart. Handsome voice, and no pathos nor exaggeration, the perfect balance. I play it on my piano and even the accompagnment has layers and layers of depths and beauty.Congratulaitons.
First of all deep thanks for taking the time to share your appreciation of this song. Indeed this is a recording of many years ago when I was studying and also singing in recital with Dalton Baldwin and collaborated with all musicians in his orbit that tried to deliver the most sincere interpretations of Mélodie. Les berceaux and En sourdine move me to tears every time. I was obviously influenced by Gerard Souzay with whom I had the fortune to coach with in 2000. Dalton always said that I had a very melancholic soul. As for the poems and French poets of that era it is unfortunate that the music world seem to snob nowadays. I remember singing recitals in and around France and bringing out pt the closet Gounod, Hahn, Massenet etc. The audience so appreciated those melodies but said it was not considered high art! In any case, glad you are doing music and yes, the piano accompaniment of Fauré songs are by themselves a whole world.

En effet cela fait plusieurs années et j’étais un interprète de mélodies françaises surtout mais un peu incertain à l’aigu. Je commençais à collaborer avec Dalton Baldwin avec qui j’ai eu la chance de faire plusieurs récitals.

I have a particular resonance with the more melancholic art song repertoire I admit.
