Just a quick tip if you're having trouble making the chord shapes. He says use your middle finger, but if you look at the diagrams, it says 3 at the bottom, which means your ring finger. And when he plays, he uses his ring finger, not his middle finger. I suggest using your ring finger because the reach is a bit easier.
Perfect, just the comment I was looking for as I spotted it myself :) I am new to guitar and I've seen a different chord to "love yourself" where the chord pattern does require the middle finger to be on that string while the ring finger was on the next fret 3rd string I believe. The chords sounded better when I played 9, 8, 6 rather than your 9,7,6 mate. I don't know but it sounded much more better 7 was blunt. Anyway great lesson!
If you're hearing some notes, I recommend "muting" the strings with your left hand. Since you're already making a chord shape, just let the pressure off with your chord-hand and lightly touch the strings. This will prevent them from ringing out with unwanted notes.
