I have a theory, it might be dumb, but what if the movies following Kong’s perspective are more goofy and fun because Kong’s world is far more alive, while the movies following Godzilla’s perspective are darker and less goofy, since Godzilla has just been in endless battles his whole life. Kind of random, but if this next movie is following Godzilla, we’re probably gonna see more terror and all.

They chnaged cuz we demanded more monster fights. In king of the monsters we still complained that it sucked to se them fight from human view. They did everything that people requested. Personally, 2014 is one of my least favorite in the franchise. I hated the human cast and was bored to tears for the monster parts. I agree 100%, for me, the Monsterverse from 2014 to 2019 is simply sensational, I agree with every word you said, especially with the way the movie Godzilla: King of the Monsters treats the titans, with each Titan being represented with a specific color (something that the movie Kong: Skull Island also kind of does, by representing the Skullcrawlers with the color green on the screen); and portraying practically all of them as Gods/religious figures, with all the imposing and grandiosity, making you shiver with their emergence, and seeing that they really move against the resistance of the wind, and at the same time, managing to balance the ultra realism with the most fantastical part, I hope that the new director Grant Sputore can do a job like that.

The way we went from Directly in the timeline, like 2014 happened in 2014, 5 years later what happened in 2019 happened in 2019…then the big jump to 2024 when we were in 2021 and went on a course of “Sci-Fi” realism, just didn’t fit right with me, and with new MV movies coming out the timeline keeps jumping, by the next film we will be in the 2030’s with sci - fi advanced tech.
For me the grounded feeling of 2014,2019 is what we really need moving forward into the future of the MV.

My biggest issue with the New Empire is that Skar King and his "army" was less of a challenge than Ghidorah. Even Mechaghidorah aka Mechagodzilla had both of our Kaiju protagonists struggling. • @malekat8539

No. That's the opposite of what should happen. If you keep doing that, you end up with DBS.
Do you even know how stupid that sounds. There's a thing called power crept, and honestly, the MV has already passed that line with GxK. You'll end up with nonsensical forms, weak stories, shallow characters, lack of stakes, etc.
They need to rather take things much more slowly and rather put focus on the kaijus outside of fighting another kaiju and give them a reason to attack humanity because as it stands, there's no stake for humanity AT ALL with all these good benevolent kaijus.

    • @STICKFilmProductions
      @STICKFilmProductions 29 дней назад +5

@@malekat8539You can also intensify the villains through making them a more existential threat to the heroes. The Showa era had a few kaiju that required Godzilla to figure out different approaches to achieve victory and some solely through human intervention via scientific achievements. Destoroyah alone was such a counter to Godzilla’s power, he technically didn’t even beat it. Wingard made the mistake by having Skar and Shimo just get punched out to victory. In my opinion, it would have worked better if Skar did have the ability to manipulate minds and exploits Kong’s vulnerabilities in various forms. At the same time, have had a better written story to make Kong face challenging decisions between wanting to participate in his new found family’s war for survival or fall back into solitude. As well if Shimo had the ability to deflect Godzilla’s beams, requiring a more thought out plan of attack between Godzilla, Kong, and Mothra. Utilizing their unique strengths and capabilities to take down this supposed Mother of Titans. Requiring Godzilla to come to terms on accepting Kong as an ally through their actions and building more development between them. Having the villains just get beamed or punched out is boring unless there continues to be more creative actions taking place. Which in my opinion, is what the Monsterverse needs, and having the intensity of those villains reach further challenging and emotional heights would give the Titans better development as characters.

Skar King makes perfect sense to me, though. He's just a tyrant who wants what he can't have, and that's the surface world. I too miss the old Monsterverse era. 2014, Skull Island, and King of the Monsters are my favorites of the franchise because there was so much meticulous care put in to make this series feel real. The characters had real motivations, the worldbuilding was clever and captivating, and the tones and styles of each film made them feel that much special. But now, the Monsterverse has devolved into simple action films with little to no clean worldbuilding, heavy-hitting substance, and the feel that the characters and monsters are real. None of the big events from previous movies have had any impact on the world that these characters live in, and to me that is more unrealistic than a giant hollow world underneath our earth. Franchises like the early MCU hit hard because each film had impact on the next and created events that effected the world and the characters. This sort of duality is something that the Monsterverse has lost, and I really miss that.

My personal opinion: Two possible answers to these problems are that 1: Legendary isn't willing to shell out a large amount of money to design the rest of the unseen KOTM titans, provide flashbacks to these unseen conflicts, bringing back more classic Toho kaijus and musical cues, etc in fear if another KOTM underperformance (despite the 2019 summer season being crowded as hell). In other words, they don't want to take a risk and spend more than what's required.
And 2: Even though we fans come out to see it in droves, the Monsterverse is mostly drawing in the casual audience who just want to see a fun, yet flawed action flick that won't make them think (also despite there being underlying themes, mostly from the titans' POV). Unfortunately, despite things like the 1954 original and Minus One proving otherwise, the Monsterverse is slowly falling into the same cliché umbrella that other monster movies seem to be in, i.e. underwhelming human characters (for the most part), and death not being taken seriously.
With that being said, one possible solution to this is that if they can't tell the full story of these past conflicts and events in the actual movies, they can at least tell them through a comic miniseries in the vain of "Skull Island: Birth of Kong" or publish a Monsterverse Encyclopedia book which includes an official timeline with the events of the movies, graphic novels, and TV shows and fully fledged and detailed Monarch Profiles on the Titans and Superspecies we have seen thus far. I guarantee that people will be willing to buy it if they put their blood, sweat, and tears into it.

Regarding" Godzilla: KOTM"'s box office underperformance.... First and foremost thing to remember is, it was up against unprecedented competition at the box office, namely a brand new Elton John biopic, "Rocket Man" and primarily,.. Disney's "Aladdin" whose domestic and International box office legs stretched well into KOTM's run in theatres. The previous MonsterVerse entries, "Godzilla 2014" and "Kong: Skull Island" didn't have to race against a four quadrant film like that overrated Will Smith / Guy Ritchie vehicle. Even with the Chinese market (apparently, well in hand), the Disney flick cratered Legendary's projections of receipts there. The KOTM theatrical run that began May 13th there and May 31st here, was over far sooner than the studio expected it to be. Miscalculating on the popular appeal of "Aladdin", was *the* big mistake Legendary / Warner Bros made when they chose the release date for KOTM, regardless of the pre-release viral and saturation ad marketing campaigns they did for it.

Or in a future scene where they show a family doing something all happy and stuff and the son would get picked up by a Kaiju and just eat a child and some of it's corpse or blood (not a Rated R amount) would drop on the ground in front of the mother. Something like that would be just jaw dropping. I like how you make it so that they don't just copy Minus One. I think they should still keep it fun and awesome and some of those elements, but like you said there needs to be at least some cruel moments or a real impacting thing.

However I do love the writing of the actual titans in the recent monsterverse, Skar King feels like a proper tyrant(kinda like the indom) Kong feels like he has proper motives and goals, albeit simple ones, goji for the first time in a WHILE feels like he really cares about the surface world enough to LITERALLY EVOLVE and become stronger. Shimo is just kinda.. there, and whilst I do wish we got more backstory about her or hope we get more backstory later in the monsterverse.

It felt like a film that reminded the modern world of everything that already made Godzilla great, and tying it all together fittingly and cohesively, while still taking everything seriously. But on top of that, there were new things he added to the lore and wanted expanded upon like Godzilla's temple, the Shobijin, and Jonah Allen and his terrorist group. Some old, some new, all cool, and leaving fans wanting more. Did we ever get any of that? Only barely, unfortunately. In a perfect world, Michael Dougherty could have been the Kevin Feige of the Monsterverse and dictating how all future films would work together to create something much more comprehensive and entertaining.

This is just one aspect, but there are others such as getting invested emotionally for the characters and the monsters with more thrill, intensity and relatable. I don't want to say this all leads to serious flicks to be the ones that last longer and get remembered, but in some aspects of a mature feeling one can help while not sacrificing absurdities.
From Godzilla guy's take,, I also agree with having a smooth consistent slate, mentions and flashbacks from characters which lands back in borrowing serious aspects other movies do well. We've seen it with Deadpool & Wolverine, while different, the format of both the goofy and touching moments gets mixed with fun.

I think the balance of human and monster characters was best achieved in Kong: Skull Island by getting us to connect to the humans who respected Kong and despise those who wanted him dead, and the MonsterVerse could stand to re-learn those lessons. We need a level of suspense and emotional impact again. Not everything needs to be giant destruction spectacle, life or death scenarios in tight conditions can work even better. As much as Godzilla is considered an invincible guardian of life on Earth, future MV films need to craft a new ongoing human protagonist to root for and villains who don't feel so cartoonish.

Interesting take, as I also prefer the first two Monsterverse entries, because they were so grounded. Some would include GKOTM, but I think that is when "throwing everything including the kitchen sink" began, by showcasing the three classic Toho monsters all at the same time, without much build up for any of them (expect for Ghidrah). I would have loved to have seen a great solo Rodan movie, before GKOTM, but they probably thought it would not make much money, so screw that idea.
The last two G/K movies have made money and fans have enjoyed them, so one would assume that Legendary will stick to this formula. But with a new director and David Callaham coming back to write, who knows what they will have in store.

It'll probably turn away some of the casual fans (unless written subliminally), so yeah, I get that,
But you can still be grounded even with the introduction of MZ, so I don't see the issue there. If anything, KOTM was between GxK/GvK and G2014/K: SI, so it had that perfect blend.
If I'm not mistaken, people were mainly complaining with the seriously dark contrast all the time, coupled with the lack of screen time for a Godzilla centric film. I'm not sure if being "indulgent" played the significant role of reviews. I could be wrong though about that.

That's why Peter Jackson's King Kong and Kong: Skull Island are my two personal favorites. The suspense just makes for a much more enjoyable experience in my opinion. If we're supposedly in the "Showa Era" of the Monsterverse, I think they should quickly crackdown on making the "Heisei Era" for the Monsterverse seeing how even though the Showa Era movies are considered legendary, what people kind of forget is that for a majority of the Showa Era, by I wanna say after Destroy All Monsters, is that Toho was basically bleeding money for a good chunk of the 70s until the 80s where they realized "Maybe we should take Godzilla seriously again" which led to the Heisei Era starting, which even though some entries are polarizing, the Heisei Era as a whole was generally well received.

I feel like the Monsterverse has the same issues that the newer DC movies had.
You open with a dark, serious movie like Godzilla(2014) or Man of Steel, only for the franchise to become a wanna-be clone of the MCU that practically erases all traces of the dark, immersive tone that the first movies had.
I feel like that desperate desire to copy Marvel’s tone is what ultimately relegates all these other franchises to obscurity. They mistakingly believe that forced humor, constant Easter eggs, after credit scenes and over-the-top action sequences are the ticket to success because it worked for marvel. But that simply isn’t always the case.
Godzilla(2014) and Man of Steel resonated with me because they were so different from the other cinematic fare of the time. Now it seems like their franchises just want to copy others.

Some fans like to complain about this, but all three of these movies introduce a completely new, original Kaiju that needs fleshed out and hyped up all in one movie. In that light, it makes sense for Orga, Destoroyah and the Mutos to have more screen time than Godzilla in their movies.
