    I’m finally ready to make some upgrades to my JCut 6090 CNC Router. In this video, I replace the stepper motors with servo motors, replace the Mach3 controller with a Masso G3 Touch controller, and swap out my 2.2 kw spindle with a 2.5 kw ATC spindle. I also add a hand-wheel pendant controller, a spindle tool release button, a tool height setter, and wire up a 3D touch probe. I machine some aluminum motor mounts using my Super Prolight CNC mill and make some metal brackets using my DIY fiber laser cutter….hope you enjoy!

    Awesome content Travis!
    Suggestion: Replace the curved jaw flexible couplings with zero backlash ones. They look like a spring in the middle. They are more suitable to servo applications.

      you can use this type but you need good quality ones; these cheap chinese couplers are very springy and inconsistent

    Done the same as my chinese 6090 was really dodgy. But time to redo it again and upgrade it.

    Murphy's law bit me in the ass at work after I mentioned that nothing could go wrong with my VMC. Turned it on and the controller was dead. Depending on how much a repair/replacement costs, we might go to a Masso G3 Touch and have a technician install it

    Excellent work! Planning an ATC router build for next year, using a Centroid Acorn; great to see the ATC working nicely! Could I ask what the music is at the end of the video? It's great, but Google can't tell me what it is...!

    you probably dont want to use that type of tool holder pocket, there’s no positive lock, and during heavy roughing, iso20 taper will fretting corrode, get stuck in the spindle, needs some help from the snap in type pocket to eject successfully. Using the exact same spindle, learned it the hard way!
    Solution, snap in plastic pocket, or HSK25E!

    looks like the tool setter on the J-cut was triggering on the overtravel circuit and not the sensitive touch off circuit. Should be able to see almost no movement when it touches off (at least not the 1/4" I saw!)

    • @diyfiberlaser
      @diyfiberlaser  8 месяцев назад +1

      I thought that also at first, but it's not...if it goes a little further it triggers the overtravel. I have the same tool setter on my CNC mill and it triggers immediately...I'm not sure why this one acts differently.

    • @diyfiberlaser

      No, they all seemed to work great using the default parameters...I only had to change the encoder resolution to get the max speed out of them with the Masso

    • @diyfiberlaser
      @diyfiberlaser  8 месяцев назад +1

      The servos are faster, quieter, and depending on the encoder resolution, more accurate. I notice the cut quality to be a little better than what I was getting before with the steppers.

      Yes...uggggh...when I opened it up I was surprised to see they designed it like this. I have too much on my plate at the moment, but I'd like to address it in the future...I think it's going to require replacing all of them, since they aren't machined to fit on blocks
