I was fortunate to see Prelude live in country and western club Guisboro cleveland North Yorkshire and during an interval I asked the Lady to sing after the Goldrush and she graciously agreed it was wonderful.

I love this version best - love the harmony. Her voice is pure honey and makes me go weak at the knees with pleasure. I used to try to sing her version when I was a young woman. This recording still has the power to give me goosebumps 30 years later...
This really is a beautful version of a great song. Neil Young some amazing music. A time of fantastic music and superb artists. I am so lucky to have been around through the 60s and 70s and listen to songs that are still being played today...
Theirs was the first version of this song I ever heard. Back in the late 70s I used to go to flea markets to buy records and got their album with this title. It is full of great songs. Those were the days, when a song like this was on the charts.
Something about this song makes it seem so profound. I love thus melody; when I play it once it lingers in my mind for days or weeks. And this absolutely stunning recording by Prelude -- beautiful voices and harmonies all around.
Not mine at all. Every line in the chorus is rushed with an entire beat removed - it's jarring, particularly the first time you try to sing along with it. And the ending... Why ruin the power of it by adding "in the sun" in the very last line?
@@bobbabai ouch!!! don't you even like the Harmony and a capella? Well, we are each entitled to our opinion. Yeah she rushes it a little, but maybe she had some stage fright❤️❤️❤️I still love this arrangement.
@@bobbabai Well said Matt, that is exactly what I thought when I heard this version for the first time 5 min ago! Even the Dolly/Emmy/Linda version was ruined by screwing with the lyrics.
THE best Capella song I have ever heard anywhere! Even the writer, Neil, cannot even come close! Great memories of 1974. What a beautiful year and voice! Released on September 21, 1974, reaching # 22 on November 30.
This song brings me to tears whenever I hear it - this cover by Prelude - with no instruments or music gives if even a higher level of emotional impact. Brilliantly done!
I was studying on a training ship HMS Worchester in the 70s that was like the Victory inside. It was evening and someone put this album on somewhere else on the ship. It echoed around the ship. Quite magical. Loved this album ever since.
This is a beautiful song with a wonderful harmony between the singers. Irene Hume has the voice of an angel. So pure, and clear, and gentle. Humanity working together for the benefit of all - most of us are trying and one day the world will be united as one. Earth is our home and for now the only one we have.
I have 500 singles I'm currently loading onto my computer. One of the first was this from my original 1973 45 rpm. I loved it then, I still love it 43 years later. Geoff T
when I 1st heard this song in 1974,I had to rush right out to me local record shop and bought it...it remains one of me top faves of all time ..Irene's voice is super grand on this song!!
Freakin A. I absolutely adore this version. I used to drive my college dorm mates and neighbors nuts by putting the 45 on with the arm off. Repeat in today's world for hours at a time. Great to see they're still jammin. I should send a link to my old roommates. Ha Ha
One day, in 1974, I found this 45rpm record in our Record Library at the radio station where I was the "Morning Man." The record wasn't scheduled for airplay, so I took it home. I play it to THIS DAY, and watch this video as well. Neil Young puts so much FEELING into it; but SO DOES 'Prelude," and with such ANGELIC delivery. This is one of my top 2 favorites, (next to "I Am...I Said"). The "silver spaceships" reminds me of what I used to see over our NY State farm so many yrs. ago. Beautiful!
Remember seeing them on tour with Ralph McTell when this came out as a single and the audienace's almost hysterical reaction at just how brilliant their performance was, nice to know they are still out there perfroming 44 years later.
Well I guess I'm one of the Dads who still play Prelude, and so 40 something years on my teenage kids love it (yea I have teenage kids - I'm 67). I was knocked out by the harmonies when I saw them at Centre Folk in Hull in about 1968/9 and often wondered if I was the only person who remembered them. I'm glad to see that they are still playing.
Love this song by prelude, played keys for a friend of mine with his guitar to this song, with strings mixed with a bit piano, and had brian from prelude play along with us, sounded beautiful, but you just can't beat the original by prelude, when she starts off it's just sweet perfect.
Not many people do a cover that is as good or better than the original but this is superb. Never aged or getting tired...this song is a gem if ever there was one....
Loves the fact that the female singer is my aunty....She is one amazing singer And this song is amazing too!!
Still makes the hair stand on the back of my neck, and I`m now 73---Brilliant !
I'm 61 and ditto.
thats exactly how I feel
Same here - on both counts!

@JaneDoe-ij4ls you are so right perfection from Prelude.
I was fortunate to see Prelude live in country and western club Guisboro cleveland North Yorkshire and during an interval I asked the Lady to sing after the Goldrush and she graciously agreed it was wonderful.
Wow. 🙂
I first heard this in 1974, then hadn't heard it in almost 40 years. What a great song and message!!
1974, except nearly 50 years, 2023.
Great song
Pretty song agreed but what is the message? Isn’t it about some fantasy?
@@stevea6816 It's about our destruction of the wonderful nature we live in that will be replaced by a world of plastic, metals and other unnatural substances
A great song indeed but please listen to the original by Neil Young
This & Northern Lights by Renaissance has haunted me for over 40 years. So other worldly.
Hands down-the all time best version of this song!
I like it but still prefer Neil's version a tad more. I mean he wrote it and sang it first so that's a definate plus.
What did Neal think of this?
I love this version best - love the harmony. Her voice is pure honey and makes me go weak at the knees with pleasure. I used to try to sing her version when I was a young woman. This recording still has the power to give me goosebumps 30 years later...
A song written by Neil young, but performed excellently by Prelude. Best ever version...
this song is on my ET Rock and Roll playlist, along with Love Walks In, Children of the Sun and Kashmir.

One of those occasions when the cover versions is better than the original.

The best protest song ever written thank you Niel
Love this song.
She had a stunning voice.
She still does. Prelude are still going strong.

I remember the first time I heard this, sometimes music can take you to a completely different world; you zone out, this is such a piece.
She is great and when those harmonies kick in it's a real wow moment.
Still the best version. haunting

still lovin' this in 2023
Absolutely gorgeous. How lucky I was to have my teenage years when music like this was coming from the air waves.
This made me cry tears of joy and awe.
My mum has this on vinyl and as a child I was enchanted by it. Thank you for posting so I can listen to it again whenever I like.
The same as me. It was so captivating Andi would totally lose myself while listening to it as if in a trace.
Me too.Those Harmonies,Wow.

Always found this to be the best version of the song.

+graham grasdal I agree. It just flows so effortlessly. Lovely!

They did an unbelievable performance in our small village hall in Greatham, this track was simply off the scale. The best live performance I've seen.
Wonderful song...always a favourite.
Brilliant version of this song.
I love her voice. I once knew a girl who sang Neil Young songs to me.
I still have the single. How very especially beautiful.

I bought this single when I was much younger and can still remember every word! Awesome song!
