I like them but I dislike the autistic fixations ppl on RUclips have. The better tool is whatever you like and doesn't break your knuckles. Anything made in America I like
I have proto USA, snap on, Armstrong, and I must say my favorite 1" to 1-1/2" wrench are proto USA, they have spline ratchet model combination wrench (100-250$ per) they are insane, been using them for years on big machineries and its like brand new still no jokes, they are balanced, long, very strong, feels good in the hand, I would not even sell them for double I paid.
So I've been a mechanic for a few years now and currently looking to upgrade my wrench drawer. My father has a set of caterpillar wrenches that look exactly like these. Same non slip design, same profile with a thicker center that feels really confortable to use, all the way down to the style of font for the brand logo and size on the wrench itself. When I used them one day I was determined to get a set after loosening up the first bolt. Problem was finding a complete set without paying an arm and a leg for them. A fellow tech told me about these Wright Grips a couple weeks ago and I'm glad he did. I will be purchasing a couple sets very soon.
I wasn’t familiar with Wright Tools until about two years ago. Read about their history and how they are one of the last USA manufacturers of hand tools. I purchased a standard length 3/8 fine tooth ratchet (for about half the cost of a Snappy) and absolutely love it! The smooth handle feels amazing in hand. Smooth and precise ratcheting! I’m planning on buying some semi-deep sockets and they will be Wright!
Hey bro they used an OEX regular smooth head wrench to compare to their copy of the flank drive plus that would be an SOEX wrench from snapon pay attention..... They BSing you!
Got my tools off competitors trucks, filled back in with originals! (About half price-same warranty) used a lot of good AMERICAN tools over the years; snap on, Mac, matco, cornwell...proto, Williams, Herbrand, SK, CT, even Craftsman. As long as you have the tool you need to do the job..the best warranty doesn't help if the tool fails before the job is done. Master Diesel tech, retired x3
Snap on makes the best ratchets, but I’ve been somewhat disappointed with their wrenches. I have a 10mm flare nut wrench that’s absolutely terrible on what flare nut wrenches are supposed to be great at. Their flank drive xtra is better, but it uses tighter tolerances at the cost of not fitting everything I want it to.
I buy many tools from the Coliseum Swap Meet in Oakland One can find lots of old useable tools in that place - including some old Wright sockets that have "Barberton Ohio" stamped next to their name.
@@ThomasShue In my opinion, only flank drive xtra comes close to this level of grip. Unfortunately, the tolerances are so tight that they will not fit on every fastener, especially if rust gets involved. Wright says they have a patent on Wrightgrip, snap on probably has a patent on flank drive. It’s probably different enough. In my opinion, SnapOn makes the best ratchets. But I’ve ordered a set of wrightgrip wrenches because of the level of quality for the money, and I’m convinced Wright beat Snap On at the open end wrench game. 18 piece Wright metric wrench set 958 was around $250 shipped to my door. A 10 piece Snap On Metric Flank Drive wrench set SOEXM710 is $426.
Since they didn't show the wrench end up close, I would have to assume that it's a standard wrench and not a flank drive. Also, real tool reviews did a video showing both back in 2014. Yes, they both break the bolt head off. However, the technology is originally from snap-on. They held the patent for years.
So, rounded it with a standard Snap-on Flank drive wrench, then pop the head with the Wright Grip. Had you put a Snap-on Flank Drive Plus wrench on that same bolt, the results would've been the same.
*Snap-On Flank drive plus - the best wrenches on the Market and the RIGHT tool for the job..... plus the Snap-On offset gets in where no other wrenches can*
Vince I am a mechanic that works primarily on trailers. When it comes to hand tools, without a doubt Snap On is the standard. I own sockets, ratchets and wrenches made by Snap On. Wright probably does make a great wrench, but in all my experience most folks use the box end, until you have no option but to use the open end. Anyways Vince keep the great content coming.
My wrenches and sockets are a hodge podge of every fancy pants American, German, Japanese, and French make you can think of and Wright is definitely my favourite us maker of wrenches and impact sockets. I wish they made ratchet wrenches.
Never had a problem with Snap-On or Proto, but after seeing this, definitely going to be looking into Wright. Performance aside, the fact they’re still family-owned caught my interest.
Wright Tools makes great hand tools. I own some of their impact sockets and they are top notch. I have owned mine for over 20 years and have beat them to death. None of them have ever broke.
Flank drive plus is equal to wright grip...neither is better than the other. I actually thought it was kind of chinchy that they used the snap on flank drive, not plus.
So here I am, new guy, ex military aircraft structures experience (20+ years). Looking for the best wrench set for my new toolbox setup, these really look great! go to their website and the prices are so hidden its ridiculous. Im not scared to pay good money for good tools. Not being transparent about your pricing is annoying to say the least. I'll look elsewhere.
The proto and wrightgrip were not on the same flat. Proto was horizontal and did not move. Wrightgrip was at an upward angle. Not to mention Adam was the one putting the wrench to the bolt instead of Vince.
I kinda thought that too but it's hard to tell really. The wright has extra flats cut into the head of the wrench and it might just be sitting up higher cause it's actually locked onto the flats of the bolt instead of stripped and laying downward. Idk of course but even if he used a complete new bolt head that was super impressive to see the wright wrench snap the head off of the bolt using open end of the wrench.
@@jamesf9610 IF the proto asd wrench moved that bolt even a little the wrightgrip 2.0 wrench would have needed to be positioned at either the 4 oclock position or 11 oclock to stay on same flats. You can do it yourself by holding a bolt out with your hand put a wrench on the flats with wrench horizontal. Turn wrench slightly. Notice position of those same flats. The only way to stay on same ones is to be at 4 or 11 oclock.
I have been keeping up with The Wright Tool Company since I was a kid in the 60's & Dad purchased Wright Tools & learning their History & buying WRIGHT TOOLS since 1985 myself when I became a Machinist. I have most everything they sale from 1/4" to 2" in wrenches & sockets, ratchets, Screwdrivers, Pliers & more.. In almost 35 years I have only had to have a 3/4 ratchet & appx six 3/8 & 1/2 sockets warrantied & it was done without questions. My Snap On tools are Purty. Boy Howdy, as Purty as a June bug nestled in amongst the dandelions along the creek bank on a warm summer day but they Sure as hell are Not Wright Quality, they get replaced regular if used.
Now that’s a wrench. My grandad use to have a heating oil business in New Jersey, he kept a extra wrench this size of the one at the end behind the backseat of his ranchero for when he’d go collecting payments. 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for this one. I’ve heard of and seen Wright tools only as brief flashes on tool comparison videos here and there the past few years. I’d love to know more about the how, where, and whys about them. Stay safe.

Wow, amazing. I’m throwing all my snap-on wrenches away and getting these. I need these!!!
It wasn't a fair comparison. Snapon does the same thing with a similar wrench called the flank drive. Hell they invented it

I am a mechanic.I would love to see a tour of the Wright tool plant.I have snap on tools.
Made in the USA is great. That what Americans need...
Yes would like to see the Wright tool plant where their wrenches are made. Thx & good video.
The Wright grip is just a copy of a snap-on flank drive plus wrench. They have offered those since the late 80s/ early 90s...
Is it a copy if you beat the original?
Since they didn't show the wrench end up close, I would have to assume that it's a standard wrench and not a flank drive. Also, real tool reviews did a video showing both back in 2014. Yes, they both break the bolt head off. However, the technology is originally from snap-on. They held the patent for years.
Most likely Wright used a standard Snap-on flank drive wrench for the demo, instead of the Snap-on flank drive plus.
So, rounded it with a standard Snap-on Flank drive wrench, then pop the head with the Wright Grip. Had you put a Snap-on Flank Drive Plus wrench on that same bolt, the results would've been the same.
Do you know the cost differences between the wrenches? Is the flank drive plus in the same ballpark “price wise” as the wright wrench?
