Well done thank you, good to see they are still active with a new rod.

8:09 Excellent, thorough review. First one I’ve viewed on this rod to provide penny-rating…and more important, the RFI. Too much of early Tenkara was a collection of $200+ experiments.
The numbers are a bit high for my applications to smaller fish in shorter waters.
How was it at the different lengths in presenting weighted kebari/flies as opposed to unweighted?
Bonus points to an excellent bench adorned with Tenkara treasures.

I fish unweighted kebari as well, and it casts them fine, no real issues at all. I will say when extended out to 415cm, the casting was not difficult, it was just a less pleasurable fishing experience... but I'm EXTREMELY spoiled, as I typically use rods like the Oni Type I and the Nissin Oni Honryu 395 for what I'd call "longer rod/unweighted" fly fishing. Not to speak to other brands of rods here, but there are few rods that "feel" like those two rods feel while casting IMO. The latter of which I think is the premier blend of big fish capability and enjoyable fishability on the market today (if that makes any sense).

@@tenkaraangler Makes perfect sense. And as far as other brands, it helps in our understanding of new items. That’s why I like Tom’s RFI chart: folks with one of those rods will be able to compare to a rod they are contemplating purchasing. There are too few fly shops with ‘Fixed-line Fly Fishing’ gear.
My collection of unused rods is too large to keep adding, which is why I’ve really limited my rod purchases in the past year. As much as I like your review of this rod, it’s predicted casting profile are beyond what I am looking for.
I look forward to your review of the Ebisu 3rd Gen, whenever that rod becomes a reality.

Thanks TJ, we tried to bring some energy... although we may need to borrow some from you in the future. A retro gaming video this is definitely not - love your videos!

@@tenkaraangler yeh, energy I don't lack. haha. I am trying to keep my youth by playing what I enjoyed as a young lad so retro is my passion for play, and tenkara is as well. Just easier to play video games than get out and fish most of the time. Wish it were not the case. I have a long season of winter to withstand before I get to fish again. Keep up the good work!

So you could be a Satoki from Oki. I'll let myself out.

Used to be a great company. Now you can't leave a comment on their website without signing up to another website. Annoying. Also Annoying is: When you spend over $200 on their website, they add things to your cart that you didn't order, and it doesn't show up as a product. It shows up at the very bottom of the cart, small as it can be printed(unnecessary shipping insurance) that I didn't put in my cart. Highly Suspicious and possibly opening up themselves to a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. And they do it for what? A few more pennies of profit. They have sold their Integrity for pennies. I have lost ALL respect for this Company. Forever. Great Rods. Poor Foresight of Management.

Yikes, that's not good to hear. Sorry you've had a bad experience with Tenkara USA.

@@tenkaraangler yeah. Super strange. I wonder if they didn’t sell out to another company. They don’t seem to be the company that they once were. I mean, like, isn’t that illegal besides unethical? I own almost every rod they have made. Very disappointing.

Can it handle tropical saltwater species? Like the milkfish, ladyfish, tarpon, mangrove snapper?
And also as well as tropical freshwater species like the snakehead, giant gourami, knife fish, peacock bass, pacu?
I'm very interested on the Satoki, and i'm planningvto buy it for a trip to Malaysia & the Philippines. Looks promising as its packable, perfect to pair with my Dragontail Foxfire.
But i dunno if its beefy enough to handle them tropical species.

To be perfectly honest, not sure on all the species you mentioned. Tenkara rods aren't really designed for that style of fishing, and anglers that do use them outside of their intended purpose do need to have a good understanding of how to fight a fish using the rod's power curve. That said, you'll see articles of people using them to catch baby tarpon, reasonable size peacock bass, and other species. All we'd say is proceed at your own risk, and reach out to Tenkara USA for more info on the rod for your intended uses. Their customer service is quite responsive.
I will say the Satoki is a stout rod, but not the largest, "burliest" tenkara rod out there. There are other options that are significantly "overbuilt" and can probably withstand a bit more non-tenkara abuse than the Satoki.
