I was so surprised when you mentioned Annihilation! I had to rewind because it was also the book that got me back into reading. I still need to continue with the rest of the series - I hope it holds up!
Books are so GOOD! I get the overwhelming feeling of privilege to read a brilliant writers words a lot, super grateful. You read so many goodies this year and you have definitely inspired me to pick up a few of these Swimming Home and Little Virtues. Loved it Ben.
they are so good! I truly feel so lucky and privileged as well. You've got to pick up Swimming Home, I think you will really love it knowing your taste :) hugs!
wow you've been having taste for a while huh, freshwater is the only one i've read and i loved it sooo much,, gonna be adding the rest of these to my tbr now along with your 2022 ones lol
One of the things I love about your channel is it is "Quality over Quantity"! Keep doing what you love and we're just so spoiled to be allowed to witness them... How funny, I'm in the middle of Cusk's Second Place and her words and observations of life is just mindblowingly beautiful. Her comparison of the marsh to a breathing human being, her honesty about motherhood, her view on Kurt, what L's friend represent to her, etc... My only worry about this book is I might reach the end line of the last page! Thank you for your beautiful vlog about this. If I remember correctly this was your first ARC? So thanks!
How cool that you had such an amazing reading year and Booktube year. I clearly need to finally read Cusk. Can’t recommend all of the Emezi, they’ve THREE new books coming this year. Wild.
The Pixels of Paul Cezanne by Wim Wenders sounds lovely!! adding that to my list and excited for all of the lovely reading you're going to get into and share with us in 2022!!!
Wonderful to hear all your interesting thoughts about these books. I keep meaning to read Natalia Ginzburg and anyone that can write that powerfully about shoes definitely deserves to be read. 😄 Happy 2022! 📚
Fantastic video! I appreciate your selection and have added lots to my ‘To-Read’ shelf. I actually dropped what I was reading to start ‘Second Place’ and wow! Absolutely beautiful. I catch myself re-reading sentences many times over! Thanks for sharing. x
These BOOKS. VanderMeer, Emezi, Levy. Such an incredible list. Trying to coherently speaking about our favs is very stress inducing and you were a star.
I love that Deborah Levy made this list. She is one of my favorites. I adore both her fiction and nonfiction. VanderMeer is an author I really want to check out. Great list, Ben.
I had a similar experience when choosing my favorite books since I’ve read much more than I have in recent times. This is a stellar list! I can’t wait to see what books you read and love this year 💖
Wow thank you so much. I must say filming this was a struggle, but thank you. You must! I hope you enjoy her. Do you think you will go for Second Place or Outline first?
@@benjaminjournal well, I'm about to start Fiona and Jane and I'm sooo hoping it won't disappoint! And I think you might love Detransition baby by Torres! :D
BANGERS ONLY!
WE ONLY ACCEPT BANGERS HERE.
‘Thinky brainy plotless books about women moving through the world’ is an exact description of my reading tastes. I love, thank you for that!

Lovely reflections :) a random question: where is your little notebook from? It looks like the perfect size...
Thank you! It's an MD Notebook from Midori ... I love it.
The way you talk about Annihilation makes me think you may really enjoy the genre Climate Fiction. Maybe something to look into!
Yes! I think when I kept saying the word "environment" what I was really searching for was CLIMATE! Thank you.
