There is a short list of special moments captured on this channel and this is one of them. Without you guys watching these videos, Lake would have gone the rest of his life without driving his car again. As much as I want to have my own stuff on the track, there is something significant about being a protagonist to give back to the racers that made the show we loved to watch back in the day. Help us keep this going by hitting subscribe and the thumbs up button on this video!
I'm going to stick with what I said way back when y'all were building the motor when it's all done any Spanish translation that he should just give it to you Stapleton 42
My heart, mind and soul goes out to Lake Sr today - I absolutely hate to hear it's the "last one" as us all drivers know.... when we walk away from the car, a piece of us stays with it. So glad the footage is here so us all (Sr included) can enjoy it. Thankful for you filming this all!
I watched the whole Darlington race he won. We were shocked but we weren’t. I believe if he got a top notch ride, he’d would’ve had stats like Martin. No doubt in my mind. Edit…enjoyed once again Stapleton..Ty! Edit 2 lol … thank you Lake Speed for the memories. Congratulations on all your success in racing. Last edit..what a soft sweet ending. The 70s, 80s, and 90s, I mean…boy do I miss those days.
Mitchell, i think you and Jr made an old retired stock car driver a very happy man , one more time. Great fun to watch. especially to see the grin on lake speeds face ! Btw i lover the pedal cam !
No burnouts at a race track? Do better VIR. jk. Also, the ending had me a little misty eyed. Just the way he was staring at the car you could almost feel his memories.
Mitch , this video made this old man shed a a few tears, as this man has been a very competitive driver in what ever he was strapped in. As a guy who will be 70, in a little over 2 weeks, the glory days for me are finished, snd understand how lake is feeling😊
I'm 74 yo and I had the sound cranked so loud it woke my wife up from her sleep.. I expected to get smacked around but she sat and watch the end with me. I have arthritis so bad I doubt I could even get into the car.
Dude! Lake is practically telling you that he wants you to end up with the car! Dropping hints like a sledge hammer! Fantastic in car footage! The sound is incredible!!!! Thank you so much!
I remember watching him race back in the day. Nice to be able to watch him drive once again. Thank you for all the awesome videos that you do. I love learning more about the good old days of racing. Please, keep providing us with this awesome content.
I'm now running the Yellow bottle in my own truck thanks to your channel. Lake's still got it at an age most people can barely walk. That was tons of fun! I'm glad he had a competitor out there keeping him on his toes and heels! 🏁Going to miss you, Lake!
Mitch, another great video!!! Thanks for knocking it out of the park. Lake, so good to watch you run again my friend! Please keep us entertained and maybe opt to do this more. Nineties NASCAR needs to stay alive!
I would love to. If I had my own car we could bring in some more retired guys to have that “final ride” moment. Since most of them don’t have a car to use for that
I remember him from Go cart racing, the name alone LAKE SPEED was cool I have enjoyed him all through his racing days I wish him and Mark Martin would start a racing series
Hey, most people don't even know its their last time sliding into a race car. Good on you Lake, keeping yourself safe. passing the history down so someone with some more years can enjoy that feeling of driving an old stock car. Great video as always.
Even though Lake Sr., says he’s done, I suspect if you were to ask for help wringing out your car, y’all’d get him in the seat again… Love the pedal cam and got a chuckle out of the steward bitchin’ about his burn out. Thanks for sharing.
That pedal cam is awesome cause getting 2 c how lake is usein his clutch foot and break and gas foot the combo of gas and break with one foot im like WOW and its cool 2 c lake sr n a different light so2 speak
This was an amazing video! Listening to that car go full out was beautiful. Watching Lake wheel that car was awesome! You are doing a great thing with your videos, but this was the best so far.
Lake's driver suit still fits. You talk a lot about the sound cars make but I like the smell of racing and mechanical aspect as well. I can empathize with Lakes decision to step away. I am at that point in my life also. You realize your limitations and change your priorities. Great video Mitchell. Thanks
Man does that bring back memories - seeing him at that age wheeling that car around the track looking like he never retired just like he did when i actually seen him race that car.....and the sound of that car is the sweetest music in the world! Thank both you and the Speed family for doing all this - all y'all are the best!😉👍
Glad to see Lake enjoying his self out there the old T bird sounds and running strong out there Lake you to keep the car you having to much fun driving that beautiful T bird
It was cool to see you and Logan iin Clay millican's video. Thanks for sharing lake's stories. I hope this isn't his absolute final time in a race car.
That was truly special! There is nothing better than a father and son doing what they love together. I raced Offshore powerboat with my Dad! Nothing will ever come close! This brought me too tears! Fantastic! WELL DONE, WELL DONE! Thank you!
I love the content you provide, I am 61 years old, and you bring back everything I loved about this sport. I live in South Carolina, still try to go to Darlington. I live less than a half of mile from Carolina Motorsports Park. Keep the videos coming, and I will be watching!!!
A all time great in cup but when he went to Europe and beat Ayrton Senna to win the world karting Championship tells us what a great driver Lake Speed is. Thank you sir.
Mitchell, thank you and your team for all that you guys are doing to keep our NASCAR hero’s accomplishments and legacy’s alive! Showing the younger generations and reminding the older generations how AWESOME NASCAR was back in the day! Keep up all the great and hard work! You don’t know what this means to US life long NASCAR fans!! Brings big smiles, amazing memories and tears of joy to ALL OF US! 👍
Love that guy SPEED! I was a fan of his as a teenager and so happy to see these videos of him, I hope he doesn’t sell it and keeps on doing some track days!
I watched a lot more NASCAR when I was a kid in the 70's than today and Lake Speed was one of my favorites at first just because of his name because how can you not be a racer with a name like that. Lake has always been a class act. Also loved the name Sterling Marlin for a race car driver for some reason as well. I saw your video that was done maybe last year when you toured Lake Speed shop and that was pretty cool.
This brings me back to being 21 and traveling to most but not all nascar tracks with my family. Tons of memories tons of pictures and the sounds of those cars bring a tear to my gear head eyes. Thank you for this footage.
Great video and I enjoyed the foot cam. Reminded me of the old ESPN days when they’d use the foot cam in Ricky Rudd’s car. People who don’t understand racing have NO IDEA the amount of talent it takes to heel/toe a 3500lb stock car on a road course. It’s a thing of beauty to watch!
Mitch, that was a great ending to this episode!!! I really enjoyed being able to “ride along” with Lake Speed during this video! Thanks once again for documenting racing history. Tim in northern TN
The look on Lake's face at 44:15 of him likely remembering hooligan things that he had fun doing and the emotions at 47:56... priceless. What a man of tremendous character and a true legend!
Thanks for letting us watch this! I'm an old school NASCAR fan and the racers from his era were a different breed! To me, Lake Speed was up there with the best of them but just was never able to secure the ride he needed. This was a great video. Thanks again!
I’ll say it again. As an almost 47 year old, you hit every mark in my book when it comes to nostalgia. I know you’d appreciate watching NASCAR live in the 80s and 90s. It was just a different culture back then. Lake Speed is a gift to motorsports.
Man that GEN 4 car sound is unforgettable. These are the cars I grew up with. No car since then comes anywhere close to how cool these sounded back then.
Thanks for the memories Lake as kid growing up in the 80’s and 90’s in Australia occasional highlights and stock car racing magazine were my only way of keeping up with nascar. Thanks Mitch for giving us the history to see forever 🏁🇦🇺
I’m a 44 year old guy from PA and I think what you’re doing is amazing. For me to see all these older guys that I grew up watching as a kid still get out and sling cars around, tell stories and show different things from their lives is so cool! This was probably one of my favorites so far! The foot cam was so cool to see him work his magic on the pedals. Keep up the great work guys!!
You make an old guy emotional Mitchell. Hearing this car, watching it race, seeing Lake man handle it and wring it out... Makes me miss NASCAR and what it was. It's a shame it's gone so far away from this
Thanks for this footage. Lake's a legend of NASCAR from a great period of time in the sport. Always like to hear and see from those who maybe didn't have the biggest success, but contributed a lot to our entertainment nonetheless.
At the end you can see Lake Speed re living the memories for a few seconds.. what a great father son relationship.. lovely video Mitchell really enjoyed it.
I mean... there just aren't words man. I grew up watching Lake drive Winston Cup and to see him make his final laps in a stock car is bittersweet. Mitch, thanks for being there. The history that you capture is priceless. And I LOVE what you said about capturing footage with the family in mind. You're a class act brother. So THANK YOU... and thanks for the time and energy you put into this and all of your other videos so that we the fans can share in the nostalgia. God bless. And Lake... thanks for the memories sir. It has been a true pleasure watching you all these years. God bless you and your family today and forever.
I had a smile on my face through the entire video. Seeing that car on a race track took me back. Lake in the B.M.E fire suit was the icing on the cake. Hard to believe this man beat Ayerton Senna at one point in his life. Bravo sir.
Listening to Lake Speed and the gentleman at the end talking took me way back to when I'd be with my Step Grandpa at the drags and hearing him and other drivers talk about their cars and their runs. Lake Speed is an absolute Legend, sucks this was his last run but I understand.
Wow, this 85 year old Lake Speed fan teared up watching this. Thank you Stapelton for a trip down memory lane. Growing up in the 50's watching dirt races and then NASCAR, USAC and Heilderberg dirt with my hero's ,wow is all I can say.
thank you for getting this you are capturing history the good bad and goodbye's to the end of the era. For you to be apart of it is a very special thing and i hope you can charrish this time that you get with these legends of the sport. Thank you
Thanks man. The experiences are great and what keep me going. I’ve sacrificed a lot in my own life to be able to do this and that part of it sucks. In the long term it’ll be a bump in the road!
Every time you post a video with Lake I am glued to every second he getting after it on the track, great in car and pedal action. After that last run being chased around the track he was in his element and full of life. That was tuff at the end seeing his emotional connection to Jobe, it was like he was saying goodbye to an old friend.
Lake is such an interesting character, I have always been drawn to the underdogs in the sport and to me he was the ultimate underdog and a giant killer on the track. It so awesome that you got to be a part of this for him and Lake Jr.
FINALLY getting to watch this thing after the storm and outages. I can’t put into words how cool it is seeing Lake burning it up at his age for … possibly the last time. Looks and sounds just like an in-car camera from a Watkins Glen race of the early 90’s. Thanks for all the great deep dives and content you provide
Wasn’t nearly as bad here in Morganton as it was over where my mom lives in Burnsville. Got power back around Monday or Tuesday and Internet back a couple of days ago. I’m glad I moved out of Asheville last year.
Went over and beyond Mitchell great great video. That is what racing is all about great vintage Stock Cars and great racers like Lake Speed. A racers racer, but more importantly a great family man.
Such a cool video to watch, From the traction burnout to the fast feet the eyes in the rear view mirror and the bond of a father and son and making memories. The ending part of the part of the video was cool. To see him touch by it and happiness from a son to his father.
There is a short list of special moments captured on this channel and this is one of them. Without you guys watching these videos, Lake would have gone the rest of his life without driving his car again. Definitely me! He's a inspiration!
Well of course i am ready to see this! 😄
I'm ready!! Listening to that thing scream has me pumped.
I hope it's not his last ride ..... 😮☹️
That's a piece of history !!
I'm going to stick with what I said way back when y'all were building the motor when it's all done any Spanish translation that he should just give it to you

Thank you for giving my grandfather this opportunity and thank you for giving me the privilege to see him race again wish I had been there
Your Grandfather is an awesome man. Back in the day i was cheering for him. 🏁 a real man of good character. 🏁
I think the world of your grandfather I have special cast. I’d love to send you ones that I have made.
He was having fun out there. I miss the old days of racing
That brought a tear to my eye. Fantastic job Mitchell. Thank You!
It feels good to be the agitator of good things and that day was one of the best yet. That’s how I know I’m doing what I was meant to do here.
The pedal cam/split screen is awesome! Thank you for this great video!!!
Hey Jr, you ever think about running that car for pops? Man, what an awesome episode!
@@Stapleton42You are doing exactly what you were born to do!
@@tommymac3029agreed!
This guy is a Legend!
He won the World Karting Championship beating Ayrton Senna!
This Cat can flat out BRING IT!
Man, that 83 sounds AMAZING!! When it fired up for the first session, it gave me goosebumps. That era of NASCAR was the best sounding, IMO.
I agree. The aggressive sound most places then the high pitch wail on the superspeedways. just amazing
OMG, he hasn't missed a beat, he's driving the wheels off it ..... Ole Lake Speeds still got it !!
Thanks for sharing!!!
Totally awesome!!
Thanks man!!
I always liked lask Speed
What a prince of a guy, Fun to hear the JJ driver show due respect.
Tell me this isn't the last time we see Lake tap dance in the car!
I hope not but it might be…

Great video! Hope that's not the last we see of Lake and that car but if it is, at least he had a fun battle in that final session!
I hope so too!
I could listen to that small block ford scream all day 🇺🇸
That's when engines were engines instead of the choked off shit with mufflers today. Bless the legend, Robert Yates!
Robert Yates and the C3 heads were the best back in the day@@wysetech2000
Another outstanding video with Lake Speed. 76 years young! Driving the car and the ease he showed getting into and out of his car was unbelievable.
That thunderbird was singing a song going around that race track👍
Mitchell, i think you and Jr made an old retired stock car driver a very happy man , one more time. Great fun to watch. especially to see the grin on lake speeds face ! Btw i lover the pedal cam !
No burnouts at a race track? Do better VIR. jk.
Also, the ending had me a little misty eyed. Just the way he was staring at the car you could almost feel his memories.
It made me tear 😢 up also
That was just fun to watch. Id love to know what he was remembering all those times he'd just stare at the car
ME TOO. You could tell the gears were turning when he’d stare at it in silence.
You couldnt pay me to watch modern nascar, but wow the old cars are incredible and driven by a legend Lake Speed
Mitch , this video made this old man shed a a few tears, as this man has been a very competitive driver in what ever he was strapped in. As a guy who will be 70, in a little over 2 weeks, the glory days for me are finished, snd understand how lake is feeling😊
You still got 6 years on Lake, it ain't over until you give up man!
Old bloke, I have 4 weeks!!
What a legend of a man, can’t get enough of his humility and honesty… getting harder and harder to find people not driven entirely by their ego.
I agree
That's some of the best sounding onboard shit I've ever heard utterly brilliant
What a video!!! Man, you can't let him sell this history. What a great sound!!!! Great job as usual bringing us the history! Thanks!!!!
Thank you Dave!
I'm 74 yo and I had the sound cranked so loud it woke my wife up from her sleep.. I expected to get smacked around but she sat and watch the end with me. I have arthritis so bad I doubt I could even get into the car.

I can try! Maybe find someone to buy the car who’d let me run it a couple times a year.
Agreed

I did tear up a few times. At 51, I grew up listening to MRN. Lake Speed, Morgan Shepherd, Joe Ruttman, Bill Elliott...etc. It was a good cry!
The voice of MRN, Barney Hall
Lake Speed looking & driving great! Thanks Stapleton42.😊

What a treat! Glad to see he was able to get it pretty dialed and have some fun with it too
Superb! 15 minutes of listening to that car scream and watching Mr. Speed get a little choked up at the end was pure bliss for this old dude.
Even though Lake Sr., says he’s done, I suspect if you were to ask for help wringing out your car, y’all’d get him in the seat again…
Love the pedal cam and got a chuckle out of the steward bitchin’ about his burn out.
Thanks for sharing.
We’d have to get some foam in there for him to reach the pedals and see over the dash 😂
So cool it’s gotta be awesome hanging out with these guys

Lake is such an interesting character, I have always been drawn to the underdogs in the sport and to me he was the ultimate underdog and a giant killer on the track. It so awesome that you got to be a part of this for him and Lake Jr.
Thanks man
FINALLY getting to watch this thing after the storm and outages.
I can’t put into words how cool it is seeing Lake burning it up at his age for … possibly the last time. Looks and sounds just like an in-car camera from a Watkins Glen race of the early 90’s.
Thanks for all the great deep dives and content you provide
thank you Scott! Was the storm pretty bad for you and your area?
Wasn’t nearly as bad here in Morganton as it was over where my mom lives in Burnsville. Got power back around Monday or Tuesday and Internet back a couple of days ago. I’m glad I moved out of Asheville last year.
@@scotthall756 wow man. I feel so bad for everyone out there
Went over and beyond Mitchell great great video. That is what racing is all about great vintage Stock Cars and great racers like Lake Speed. A racers racer, but more importantly a great family man.
Glad you enjoyed it!!
I always been a Lake Speed fan! Thanks for some flashbacks.
Such a cool video to watch, From the traction burnout to the fast feet the eyes in the rear view mirror and the bond of a father and son and making memories. The ending part of the part of the video was cool. To see him touch by it and happiness from a son to his father.
