This is a special episode of the Little Rascals featuring two former members. Mary Kornman, the teacher, and Mickey Daniels, the truant officer, were both original members of the Our Gang/Little Rascals team in the 1920's, eventually having outgrown the roles. They teamed up to up to appear in this 1933 short, and they did one more guest appearance, that being in 1937's Reunion in Rhythm. Go Yankees, Adogg!

Mickey is my all time favorite Our Gang Kid!!! His style of Physical Comedy is unique to him it’s kinda slow and broad, his wide eyed expressions and honest Situations are just the best

Farina and Joe were early additions to the series. Mickey and Mary were the original Our Gang kids. Farina and Joe were in the series until the early talkies.
Allen "Farina" Hoskins was the most popular member and was in more of the films than any other actor (105!!) and was kept in the series until he was past the ages of other actors in the series who had outgrown their roles. He started as a toddler.
1937's Reunion in Rhythm, had Mickey Daniels, Mary Kornman, Joe Cobb and Matthew "Stymie" Beard making cameos.

Those were the good ol days. I sure miss them. But I think the best years of my childhood was between 450 and 400......BCE. Ahhhh. Those summer wandering the Corinthian agora were awesome. The beaches, the theater, the horse races, the nights in the taverna, sleeping on the beach under the stars. Such memories.

THAT CRAZY LAUGH...that was Mickey Daniels, previously a little rascal in the silent 1920s era. Well, he was hired to provide that laugh in some films. Especially Tarzan's New York Adventure. They used that laugh for Cheeta the chimp, the companion of Tarzan and Jane. Cheeta would get loose and jump on the roofs of taxi cabs and go for a ride and cause havoc in nightclubs....I remember him throwing guests hats and coats out of the clothes closet and this monkey was just laughing his head off...that Mickey Daniel's laugh would be going full steam and it was just a total crack-up.

gr8 episode, one of the last with Joe and Farina as "guest stars", Spanky's "here's some phony notes from the gang" line always cracks me up ... some may say that "Freight Mike" and "Free Wheelin" are also among the best....

I believe the kids were fishing at Toluca Lake, CA and I think they were at Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, CA in the beach scenes. Pacific Ocean Park didn’t open until the late 1950s, but I think there was an Ocean Park before. It doesn’t look like the Fun Zone at Balboa.
I love this episode. Spanky and Stymie were so adorable. These were made when my parents were little.
I think Hal Roach got the idea when he saw a bunch of kids playing outside. He wanted to make a show with kids acting like kids.
I grew up in Southern California when the beaches were clean and there were still orange groves to play in. There were a lot of rural places still. It was a fun time to be a kid.
The Flintstones cartoon was kind of modeled after The Honeymooners. It was on TV on Friday nights not Saturday mornings.
I enjoy your show very much and also your wife’s show. She’s really cute.

It was filmed at the amusement park on the former Venice Pier. The roller coaster in the film was shut down the following year in 1934, since several people had fallen off of it and died at different times. The park and the pier are gone now and have been for decades. The rocks that you can see in the film around the roller coaster are still there.
      You can Google it.

Just to give you some background, the teacher and the truant officer were the original Gang members as children from the silent era. Mary Korman and Mickey Daniels. They outsmarted their younger successors. Joe and Farina were also original Gang members. So, Mary was all too familiar with their shenanigans.

@Da Real Adogg Stymie, Spanky & Petey the pup were my favorite Rascals. Did you know that Stymie (Matthew Beard) had quite a few guest star and reoccurring roles later on in his life? He guest starred in The Jeffersons, Emergency, Good Times, Sanford and Son and a few other shows. He always wore his trademark bowler hat. I hope you get to check out some of those episodes that I mentioned one of these days.

The Santa Monica pier area use to have a few more rides about 100 years ago. The Santa Cruz boardwalk still look similar.

    • @charlesowens6400
      @charlesowens6400 Месяц назад

It was actually filmed at the Venice Beach Pier which is gone now. The rocks that you see around the roller coaster are still there. The roller coaster was torn down or at least shut down the year following this film's production. Several people had been thrown from the ride and perished at different times.
There were multiple piers with amusement parks along the coast decades ago. But with being exposed the salty humid sea air 24/7, it takes a toll on paint and metal and needs major upkeep. So most of them are gone now.
Very nice shots of this historic park and from the rides themselves. At least it is preserved on film.

I have to find the pictures, anyway he told my mom that I look just like Darla. Except her hair color was reddish brow not jet black like mines lol. Thank you for sharing your review and thought of them. You brought back some happy memories. Have you ever seen the one about the "magic lamp"? That's another good one

These kids look so young yet act so grown. Excellent acting. Lots of Saturday morning memories👌🏽 Good episode.
My favorite ride is no longer allowed. It was the anti-gravity wall. It spun you around so fast it pinned you to the wall and the floor would drop. Only problem is sometimes the ride stopped before floor came back up. Became a danger due to falls. Talk about dizzy when you got off!!!

When I was a kid we had Playland in Rye New York. Two rollercoasters. One was the Dragon, the other, i think was call airplane or flyer....it was higher and faster. You`ve seen where some stand up while riding. On the high rollacoaster a young guy stood up, but at the wrong moment. When he stood, it made a real hard left turn to go down. It threw the person out. It was at the highest point. He died. It was torn down.

Adogg, I grew up watching “ The Little Rascals “ and what fun it was! I didn’t like the rides at the county fair either. The Ferris wheel stopped at the tipity top and my brother had a seizure! I was worried for him and the both of us because we were swinging back and forth so much that we almost fell out of the seat! ( no seat restraints during this time ). Mom saw what was happening and made the fella working the wheel, bring us down. NOPE, NOPE, NO WAY, no more high rides for me. Enjoyed your reaction to “The Little Rascals “, a staple in my home. Until the end Adogg. 😊
