  • A man who need no introduction really... Mr John Wilson, a Projectionist in Australia for more than 40 years, and a personal friend for more than 30. This is a look at his latest show, 'Titanic', at The Ritz, Randwick, Sydney, Australia. October 27, 2023 at 8:30pm.
    This print of Titanic in 70mm with DTS digital sound is one of only two surviving complete 70mm prints in the world, and is in very good condition.

    Always great to see real projectionists at work. Surprised at such a small audience for this special event.

      This cinema has two levels, only the top can be seen from the booth. There were a lot more people in the lower level. Also Paul McCartney was having a concert the same night, which was surprisingly a portion of most returning Ritz customers. Cheers!

      That explains it thanks. I do hope Sydney audiences support film screenings. My experience is that Sydney and Melbourne are quite different markets.@@ClarkTeddles

      Especially played loud! Packs a punch through the subwoofers. Knocks the dust out of anything loose.

    Great video. I worked in a single screen 1300 seat theatre for 15 years. 70s to 80s. Like the other poster said, miss the showmanship. Open/close curtains, masking, etc.

    I heard the DTS trailer man i miss that at the movies. I wish they still have cool things at movie theaters like this digital sucks the sound is lower and there is no masking on the screen I quit going to the movie because the sound and picture are no better then a old tv now

    You should see how it gets sent either as one big reel or a lot of boxes which he would have to put together
    IMAX film is really 70mm but vertical not horizontal like this was

    • @mxslick50
      @mxslick50 5 месяцев назад

      You have that backwards...standard 70mm is vertical, the frames pass the lens in the vertical plane, IMAX is horizontal and pass the lens from one side to the other and are printed side by side in relation to the sprockets.

      @@mxslick50 yes you are right I used work for a film distributor we had 1 70mm print it was huge and heavy I believe it was Star Wars it could be worth a few bucks today
      The studios keep track of them though most of them get destroyed we had that print for years I think they forgot about it
