Love it. I am a crocheter and I didn't realize we avoid luxury yarns like the plague but now that you mention it it rings true. I recently bought some myself to break away from the acrylics and cotton. I have mohair but I don't think I have enough for a sweater like this. May try it on a smaller scale! Maybe a crop top sweater 😂
21:49 tripped me out because I'm currently knitting watching this video of you crocheting then you're watching someone crochet as you crochet. My brain was like "what's going on here" for a second XD. I love it hahahaha
Beautiful! We had mohair sweaters in the 60s! Girls also used mohair yarn to wrap around our boy friends class rings when we wore their rings. We called it "going steady" And then brushed the fuzz out with a toothbrush.
I love crocheting with luxury yarns! Made a cardigan with wool and mohair strands, currently working on another one. Just made test swatch with leftover mohair and I may have to make a sweater like this, love the effect
I love you and your sisters' content. Y'all are so entertaining and cute. Yesss my girl is uploading frequently! Gives me more motivation to finish my WIPs....
Thank you for this video! I've had 8 skeins(305yardsea, in between1&2 weight) of 50% super kid mohair & 50% superfine merino in a grayish blue that looks like the sky before a storm...I've been scared to death of fudging it up...I just might give it a try, thanks to you. Take care GREAT JOB😍🥰
Always see nice knit mohair tutorials. Girl was I not over the moon seeing a Crotchet tutorial. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 I was celebrating with you after you finished that collar. So proud of you. #newSubscriber
I raise angora goats and spin my own yarn. I’m so excited to see you crocheting a sweater with the mohair! Most of the patterns I find are with it mixed with some other fiber.
This reminds me very much of a Dorthe Skappel Norwegian sweater. If you don’t know it, it’s an oversized boxy sweater made with two strands of fine yarn held together, one being mohair or a fuzzy natural fiber, usually knit on larger needles than normal . It’s an iconic pattern (more a recipe) in the knitting community based on a recipe that actress Dorthe Skappel created for her daughter. I thought you might want to google images. I have searched for a crochet version of a Skappel sweater forever because I don’t knit larger garments that often. I think your yarn choice has made the perfect sweater. I’m going to try this with some of my expensive yarn stash I’ve been hoarding for years. THANKYOU ❤️
I'm 14 and I'm someone who's accustomed to crocheting with lace weight yarn and it was kinda funny to me seeing you talk about how thin the yarn was and talking about the tension😅😅 other than that I really love the colour of the sweater and it turned out really pretty!!
This came out so good! I need to add this to my list of projects ASAP. I am currently working on a mohair spring/summer shawl that almost looks like fluffy lace and I am enjoying working with it more than I thought I would.
Oooooo Looks good enough to eat! I had a mohair sweater, loved it, believe me, you will be WARM all winter, just a cotton shirt underneath. Light as air. Beautiful! You inspired me to make one for myself.
Same! I thought about crocheting worth mohair and found so few tutorials and patterns that doesn't just use it for adding "fluff" as a second yarn, but with a sale of faux-mo yarn that I just picked up so hopefully I can make something or of that! 😁
This is adorable!! I'm not much of a crocheter (knitting is my thing) but I love everything about this. New sub for sure! The yarn coming off the ball that you're working with is the "working yarn" btw. I often forget what it's called too, nbd.
Thank you so much! And yes I forget what it’s called all the time haha I just got into knitting, so hopefully that content (when I post it) can relate to you now! 🥰
Idk if this method would work but I’m going to write it anyways. When working the collar I would have worked through the front stitches only leaving the back stitches unworked that way I could have slipped stitched the collar closed instead of doing a whip stitch. I may try this method on the next sweater I make but definitely not with mohair! Just seeing how tiny that yarn was made me nervous haha but it came out absolutely gorgeous! Good job!!
Ohhhh that’s a really good method! I will definitely try that with a heavier yarn because I think if I do it with mohair, it wouldn’t have a great foundation or be strong enough to hold the collar up. But I will give this a try with maybe wool! Thank you so much!
I thought your sweater was so heavenly, the color looks Ike a cloud of candlelight. So, I ordered white ad vanilla and set out to make a cardigan. The pattern I chose was difficult and nit much explanatory, so I was stressed a lot, but dame expert in frogging mohair! Well, it is so YELLOW.. I look Ike a baby chick! Because I’m white with white hair.
An art center was giving this mohair away for free they were going to toss it, but gave it to me, I’ve never crocheted this material and was intimidated but you’ve inspired me to try to make a sweater like u
I am a knitter but i'm just as obsessed with mohair i'm knitting my first sweater right now in mohair its gonna be yellow with a green and black striped v neck collar and I could not be more excited
When you're doing the front/back panels, how many stitches per row of ribbing do you do? I tried one per row, and it came out really weird, currently trying 2 and it's looking better, but the edges just out more than what yours appears to
I remember my first time in a local yarn store I got told by the owner that I should just learn to knit and give up on crochet because it wasn't worth learning. It made me feel unwelcome there compared to a big box store so it took me a lot longer to discover luxury fibers. That sort of attitude might be contributing to why crocheters don't typically use high-end fibers.
I'm pretty sure there are significantly more people who crochet so that seems like a huge missed opportunity, but it gives me so much pleasure to see someone talented like you who can really show off what stunning garments you can make with crochet. Thank you for sharing your sweater!
I've been trying to branch out and use wool, alpaca etc more, but to be honest the reason I (and I think quite a few other crocheters as well) don't use mohair is that I simply can't afford it unless someone pays the price for a commission? I would love to try out more natural fibers but they are, as you said, luxury fibers, and mohair in particular is so thin that you need a lot of it to complete a piece.
That totally makes sense! There are some great cheaper alternatives for mohair and other natural fibers on Hobbii, like its Diablo Mohair, which is an acrylic blend and is usually around $3-$5. I’ve heard people say it feels very close to the usual mohair silk blend, so maybe that could be worth checking out! ☺️
I love your video! Ive been starting to learn to knit because I want to make non-bulky sweaters but this seems like its just the yarn people use? Which would be wonderful because i much prefer to crochet then knit
Yes, the yarn you use affects how bulky your sweater will be. So if you use thinner yarn, like lace, fingering, or sport weight yarn, your sweater will be significantly less bulky than if you used worsted and up.
Good morning! I just subscribe to your channel and I love this sweater and I will give it a try. Question? I wear glasses as well and I love ur hair can you please share where you got it from. Thank you and many blessings!!
Hey Kali I just found your channel . I’m a new subscriber and Really enjoyed your mohair video . I am a 2 yr crochet now . I purchased the pattern . I’m loving making wearables . Thanks for sharing 💕😊
Hi! I bought the recipe for this gorgeous sweater, but just found out my skin reacts to it…. I still would love to crochet with the recipe, but do you think I could follow it just using regular cotton or alpaca for instance? Love from Denmark ❤️
It's funny, but when I first learnt to crochet I actually had mohair yarn and the sweater I made is one of the few things from back then I still wear. It's very open and airy because I used a big hook (5mm) and I love wearing on top of colourful shirts so it really shows off the stitch pattern. I used tulip stitch, btw.airy Ok dad like a fancy looking mesh. But a sweater. Summer sweater? 🤷 Anyway, I still love wearing it
My skin is sensitive as well, but it’s not itchy to me at all! It does have some prickle factor, but I’m sure after blocking it, it will feel even better. ☺️
How many skeins of each did you use?? I really wanna try this yarn but I wanna make sure I buy enough. I HATE running out of yarn in the middle of a project lol!!
I used around 8 skeins of each color (16 total), but it could vary for each person depending on the size they want to make/body size. And same, that’s why I always get more than I need just in case, lol.
Do you remember how many gramm did you use for the sweater? Or how many I need for a sweater like this also big like this one? I really need Help I'm making a oversize sweater crocheting Not knitting this time and its my First time crocheting a sweater. I'm using acrylic wool and don't know If I have enough for one in size M. I'm really scared :(
she used abt 325g but mohair is very lightweight, with acrylic you may need about 800g, but the factor you should be looking at would be yardage because that remains relatively the same regardless of sweater fiber.
Ive just made a top with practice mohair b4 using my good stuff to attempt something else. I isn't qs hard to work with at all

i started this sweater like 3 weeks ago and just finished it today- i used the faux mohair super saver brushed yarn with a 5 mm hook
I just got some of the super saver brushed. How was is it? And how many skeins did you use?
I raise angora goats and spin my own yarn. I’m so excited to see you crocheting a sweater with the mohair! Most of the patterns I find are with it mixed with some other fiber.

Omg thank you. Definitely making this 😍
Years ago I bought a light purple mohair sweater. I wore it all the time! 😃 Now that I crochet, I’m making one! Thanks for sharing!!
Love! Love! Love! your Gorgeous SWEATER!!! It fits you to perfection!!! Pure AWESOMENESS!!! You have inspired me to crochet a sweater!!
Oh my gosh I bet that took such a long time because like mohair is super thin by the way I love the sweater❤️
Took me almost 3 weeks (but I was crocheting other things, so I put this aside a lot)
@@knitwithkali Yeah that must’ve took a lot of work but it looks super good I could never do something like that

This ended up being so gorgeous. Looks like you’d pay so much money at a high end store for it.

@@knitwithkaliDid you start off with crocheting the arm panels or the front and back panels first?
Yes, I searched for mohair sweaters,it costs thousands of dollars each.
I took this idea and started a sweater too.i bought off white ice yarn mohair.it starts from neck down.i almost have the neck ribbed done.im excited.
Absolutely love this sweater !!!! It looks so comfy!!!
Can you please tell me how many total skeins of yarn you need to make this??? 🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶

I love the way you hold your hook i hold mine like a knife so im wondering if i could even attempt smaller yarn
That is GORGEOUS. how much would you say the yarn for this project costs
Tysm! For amount of yarn I got total for this project, it was around $83.
Hi girl, i get inspired by your video and i want to try so many yarn that can used by crochet people. ❤️❤️
An art center was giving this mohair away for free they were going to toss it, but gave it to me, I’ve never crocheted this material and was intimidated but you’ve inspired me to try to make a sweater like u
At 22:00 it was crazy I was crocheting while watching you and you were watching someone else crochet🤯
omg i have exact same ring as u. the black and silver heart shaped one!
Another thing you could try is one strange of a variegated lace weight yarn and one strand of mohair for some fun colors!!!!
Oooo that would be so cute! Thank you for the idea!!
YASSSSSSSSS GIRL I LOVE IT!!!!!!
you look so beautiful in that sweater! Well done!
how many grams/skeins did you end up using on this?? 😳😳 it’s stunning btw!!

Awww wow that’s so rude to say! Yeah I feel most luxury fiber brands only cater to knitters, making crocheters believe they can’t use “knitting yarn”.
