Sehr interessantes Video;ich lebte am Stauffacherplatz mit Frau und zwei Kindern von 1958 bis 1962;wir wanderten aus nach U.S.A. und leben in Florida,um das Alter zu geniessen.Aber ich speziell vermisse das schoene Zueri.
Visited and want to return, the fact that so many buildings have survived virtually unchanged says allot for the designers and construction ethics, to be the best you must strive for perfection. all are well done.

Zueri.Ich liebte die Stadt sehr;war ich doch immerhin an der Landi im 1939 (Landesausstellung)mit meinen Eltern.
Vor der Rekrutenschule arbeitete ich in der Stadt.Die letzten 4 Jahre war ich kondukteur bei der VBZ.Dann kam
America auf meine Liste.Vielen Dank Dir Cora;dass Du in mir sehr schoene Erinnerungen aufgefrischt hast>
There's remarkable continuity here in many of the photo pairs. Zurich had the good fortune to not be bombed during World War II, for one thing. And even when new buildings have been constructed, they're of a similar height and mass to what they replaced...at least in this part of the city. Most other cities in the world have been extensively redeveloped with numerous high rises.
Amazing that 95% of those buildings are still standing after 100 years. In the United States, anything older than 20 years old is deemed too old to saved and demolished in the name of urban renewal.

2:50 I think they are not the same. Yes, the 1910 mansion was moved but the 2015 building you are showing is the North East facade instead of the North facade (of 1910).
Long after the steel and glass buildings are no more, The art of design and real builders in Zurich will remain.

Vielleicht ist es auch mein Fernweh, aber ich empfinde das alte Zürich als sehr unattraktiv. Mir gefällt das multikulturelle Flair mit einem urbanen Touch viel eher als die Bilder, die ich hier entnahm. Im Wesentlichen finde ich den westeuropäischen Baustil ab 1800 sehr hässlich. Chapeau, dass die Zürcher ihre Altstadt so originalgetreu erhielten. Mir gefällts halt nicht. New York ist mir lieber. Ein Paar Gerüchte: Zürich hiess zuerst Thoricon benannt nach einem ansässigen keltischen Fürsten namens Thoros. Später hiess es Turicum unter römischer Besatzung. Dann hiess es Tyrich. Wobei schlussendlich Zürich daraus wurde. In Zukunft heisst es womöglich Zuriki oder so :) 2. Zürich hat nach Tokio die zweithöchste Suizidrate der Welt. 3. Das Judengold ist unter dem Zürisee!!

@@swisschocolateram fast. Ich heiss nicht Ali, aber tatsächlich finde ich die arabische Architektur aus dem Mittelalter deutlich schöner als die unsere europäische. Ich bin mit dem Ali im Geiste verbunden.
Und du? Wie geht es dir? Es tut mir leid die Architektur deiner Vorfahren als hässlich bezeichnet zu haben. Das war taktlos von mir. Es verstrichen 4 Jahre seither und heute ist mein Anstand und Benehmen hoffentlich ein wenig besser. Ich hoffe, du kannst mir verzeihen.
