Dunno if it's an update that's stopped it but it wont allow me to change the region to 94, it says "Cannot edit DeviceRegion. Error writing the value's new contents".
I'm more interested in killing the snooping features on Microsoft Edge than uninstalling it completely. In my opinion the browser isn't the problem it's Microsoft's desire to snoop on people that's the problem.
But Edge --> Bing are M$oft's principal tools for leveraging their snooping on people (besides w11/10). I'd characterise it less as snooping, more about monetising, harvesting for gain just like Google, Meta, Apple & the rest. But M$oft are more coy, opaque & oblique in their targetting, to my mind. And their lies over "it's all for a better experience for you" make me see red

Thanks for sharing and spreading the knowledge! I truly wish this new ability to uninstall without any tricks wasn't exclusive to the EU where they had to pass laws in order for MS to do the right thing. I am so tired of complaining about Microsoft and other non freedom respecting companies. I truly am. You should be allowed to uninstall a web browser if that's what you want to do. On an OS that will cost 100 dollars for a genuine license, nonetheless.
I'm on Win 11 23H2 with all latest updates. Followed this method to the T and it didn't work on my system. The uninstall option is still grayed out. I went over it two times in case I'd made a mistake. Also rebooted each time. Strangely it's still shows my original country under region not Germany.

I bought my laptop in France. I'm in Algeria. All the region related keys were already set to 84 (FR), I added EnablePreviewBuilds set to 1 but after reboot it is set to 110 and I still can't uninstall Edge.
Hack did not work for me either. I'm located in the US, changed to DE as in the video, but Edge was greyed out.

In a pinch you can delete the \program files\microsoft folders (as long as all msedge tasks are killed) and disable all scheduled Edge tasks
Yeah that's what I've been doing. Then add SRP on that Microsoft folder as well to prevent execution from anywhere in there.

another way is Revo Uninstaller, Download the program, then at the top, click uninstall apps (or Windows Apps,) then click advanced this way there's no need to to go into the registry editor.
It will reinstall itself in the background a few days later, I don't know how to stop that, but I've uninstalled it about five times now then hey presto it's back.
did you do the advanced ninstal? removing all regisry keys and files?@@RighAlban

Hi I followed your instructions and got as far as device region and when I tried to change it to 94 it would not accept is with an error "cannot edit DeviceRegion Error writing the value's new contents can you advise please
I'm in EU, but the Edge still sits on my computer and no option to uninstall it the way you described.

Another great video Brian, I stumbled at the 1st registry change, as I was told that I cannot edit "DeviceRegion". I was in the Admin account at the time. Have Microsoft closed the ability to change this?

Nice one Brian I do like your regedit hacks as i have followed you since Windows 7 days and I now live in Australia (expat Sussex) where currently you cannot uninstall Edge and this will be so helpful mate. I am left just wondering why the hell does Microsoft make up these absolutely ridiculous rules/situations like this one with Edge as I can see no reason for them to do that!! It smacks of either incompetence or sheer bloody mindedness.
This is the BEST news I've heard about Microsoft in at least 10 years! Still some way to go for the EU to once and for all wean Big Tech off their greedy data- and vendor lock-in habits. Let's hope the EU keeps kicking them in the right direction, LOL.

Thank you for your video as they are always very helpful and i have managed to change quite a few things on my PC through them. On this occasion it did not work after following the steps. Windows said it could not make the changes.

He did say at the beginning Windows 11 so maybe not possible to remove on other versions of Windows?

Revo Uninstaller works very nicely even though a person cannot do it manually. You just have to use hunter mode. I have used it several times recently and it works well.
Just make sure tou delete left over files afterwards.
I guess by the time I saw this, MS has fortified the registry so that I can't change my location.
What happens to links and stuff that you click on that need Edge to render when there is no Edge? The whole PC doesnt even respect the default browser change, so frustrating.

Do you need to change those registry values back afterwards, or not? Or if you do, presumably the next Windows update will reinstall all the bloat?

Hi, I've followed your instruction. I live in Spain an my pc is Dutch. In the register (opend as admin) the first key you have to change is set to 176 (the netherlands) the second one aswell. But I'm not able to un install Edge. So I changed the numbers to Spain (217) the first key I can't change. The second one is now set to Spain. the warning I get is the following: Can't not change DeviceRegion: There's a fault during the writing of the new value. (free translation of the dutch message)
What do you do when it won't let you change the Device Region and gives you a message that reads "Cannot edit Device Reigon: Error writing the value's new contents."?
I'm in Hungary, but can't uninstall the Edge with the latest Windows 11 version. I couldn't do it after your method was done.
the uninstall option appears but even after clicking uninstall edge does not go away, it just stays there as if i didn't click uninstall
Not much good for me. I'm in Australia. However, I was told that it is impossible to fully back up & restore the registry.
My problem is I can’t get Edge to run on my fairly new Win 11 laptop. Wherever I go to launch it (desktop, start menu, program files) nothing happens. I’ve reinstalled it but it just won’t run.

I uninstalled Edge from Windows 10 , and this caused an update to fail, giving some useless error code. I finally found the clue to the problem 6 months later on some obscure web site.
I'm located in the US. Followed procedure as per video, but did not work.

I installed the Rufus app from the Microsoft store, and I can’t uninstall it. It also didn’t work. Useless app. All optional software should have an uninstall option.

This is why people need to switch to Linux. The more people that dump Microsoft and Windows, the more pressure there will be on companies to give more support to Linux. Linux will never force you to use apps you don't f-ing want.
So, why's Windows 11 Pro faster?
To be honest Edge is pretty good. On one of my laptops with Windows 11 running, Firefox runs like a chump when scrolling through youtube. But Edge is smooth and looking at the task manager Edge is consuming less ram, and doesn't tax the iGPU as much in the same tasks. Before anybody jumps in with a "but their spying on you", If you live in a five eyes country, you're screwed anyway and Edge is the least of your concerns if you value privacy!
there's commercial spying, like M$oft Edge/Bing, and there's governmental spying, as in NSA/GCHQ. One you can fix by not voting for Brexit 🙂
If you value your privacy, *all* vectors of data snooping are equally relevant.
To dismiss Edge as if it's less important than other privacy factors is just as bad as the dog in the burning room meme saying "This is fine"

Bank accounts, CCTV everywhere such as in shops, ATM machines, car parks, Cinema etc, postal service, chat logs, phone calls etc can and are all monitored.
