- Taking a BMW 535i (F10) for a fast drive on the Autobahn. Speed limiter kicks in shortly before the speedo reaches 260 km/h. Strange: With the same engine in the 3-series the limiter kicks in at 270. Nevermind the left lane-hogging Ford Mustang at 5:00 -- it was a jet pilot and probably didn't know how to drive :-p
Ein kurzer Sprint auf der Autobahn mit einem BMW 535i (F10). Der Limiter regelt kurz vor 260 km/h ab. Eigenartig: Beim 3er mit dem gleichen Motor geht er bis 270. Bitte den die linke Spur blockierenden Ford Mustang bei 5:00 nicht beachten -- es war ein Jetpilot und der wusste wohl nicht, wie man Auto fährt :-p

Many BMWs in America start to have engine problems because many drivers do not "exercise" their engines.. BMWs are meant to be driven and pushed like this! When they are given to Americans to drive at 100 kph and below 3,000 RPM every day, a lot of carbon deposits build up in the engine and slowly kills it.
This is why I try to rev my car up to 6,000 RPM at least once a week when it's all warmed up to keep it running like it should
+lovin f30 thats true,but the another thing is their shitty gas,the highest octane rate is 93,that i dont put even in my grandmas toyota corolla.
MrJiri84 the scale/units are different! it's like how we use miles and everyone else uses kilometers. our 93 octane is not the same as your 93 octane.
however, our only reliable fuel brands are Shell, Exxon, and Chevron because there is no government standard for additives in american gasoline
I agree with u I do the same thing with my gti mk7. the truth is living in america for the past 3 years now Americans dont know how to do drive simple. especially those with luxury class cars.

i live in belgium,my dad have a 520d e60 and he floors 2-3 times a week to like 4,500 rpms,no deposit build up at all

The 530d is great and all if you want a quick and semi-economical solution. If you can afford it, get the 535i. The engine is just amazing. It's always exciting and just puts a smile on your face. The diesel just doesn't do that for me. Even in my X5 xDrive 35i Premium, it's bloody awesome (plus the exhaust note is PERFECT).
Look at the navigation map, it looks like the airplane's one :D Going through the towns in a few seconds =)

Which gear was that at 4:04? I noticed the rev returned back to 5k and then to around 4k consecutively. The guy floored it and reached 240 I think before the rev changes place. BM drivers, any idea?

Love this car . I currently have a e39 540i and this is my next vehicle. The best all round 5 series . The 535i pretty much everything the e39 was and better I would say .

Schönes Video! Aber ich hab da mal eine Frage: Da du ja auch einen 335i mit Doppelkupplungsgetriebe gefahren bist hast du ja nun einen direkten Vergleich zu der 8-Gang- Automatik. Was ist dein Favorit? Nach meinem Empfinden von den Videos nehmen sie sich nicht all zu viel.

Do you recommend a 530d xDrive Sedan for a family with 2 kids? One is 8 and the other one is 13. I thought it was interesting because the trunk is pretty big, and it's really economical, silent & comfortable. It would be good for long journeys.
PS: We have a 2006 X5 3.0d currently. Keep going with the videos, they're awesome.

Germans highways are one of better(if not the best) highways in Europe.
German Autobahn is overfilled most of the time. You have a lot of transit traffic and over the day, there are only a few spots where you can go fast.

Can someone explain me what do the F10, E60, etc... mean in BMWs? It's like the generations?
Exactly, those codes name the generations and are therefore a way to distinguish between different designs in one series. E60 is the old 5 series sedan, E61 is its "touring" version (wagon).. F10 is the new 5 series sedan, F11 is the touring model of this generation. Another example would be the 7 series, which is the F01. The long wheelbase version is F02, the high security version is F03 and the ActiveHybrid 7 is called F04.
F25 = X3, F26 = X4, F15 = X5, F16 = X6 (2014).. and so on..
ok, question ..... at 4:01-4:05, why does the rpm drop, yet the speed is constant?

You realize the gauge measures the temperature of the coolant not the oil right? And it was 3/4 of the way to where it should be.

oh, believe me, if the guy was actually a jet pilot he would be as 10 times better as you could ever hope to be! :) and driving at the limit is not the smartest thing in most occasions. :] happy driving!

At this video I don't like the camera position, it is perfect position in your video of 525d.
I have a question, and I hope you could clearify it for me.
So in this video I see that the color of digits on the dashboard is white, in the video of 525d those digits are in orange color.
Do you know the reason for that difference? Because I love the orange lightning on dashboard so typicall for BMW, I hope they are not changing this tradition.

The numbers r red, when the lights are on, they haven´t changed it.
bedel00 I went to the dealership and the salesman told me, that normal illumination is white because only daylights are on, at night if you swith to the short lights then the illumination is orange, and with the M5 it is white all the time and needle is red :D
What happened at 4:03-4:05 with the revs/gear. There's no way he shifted up 2 more, 6 speed, right?

I think you'll find your mistaken. The Bmw 5 series come with an 8 speed ZF 8HP. Single clutch. Only the M5 has a dual clutch transmission.

Wie mein 535i F11. Goes great and comfortable. The best car I have ever own. And I have owned between 95 and and a 100 cars from Alfa to VW lol.
ich habs mal 39 Minuten ausgehalten mit einem BMW 325d E92:-) Und zwar von Hannover bis nach Hamburg.. war nachts um 3 und völlig leer, aber ich rate jedem davon ab so lange so schnell zu fahren, das ist gefährlich!

Wie macht sich der x35i gegen den x35d? :-]
Bei der Getriebeübersetzung ist noch deutlich Luft nach oben - so hat z.B. ein Chrysler 300 C 3.6 (305 PS), übrigens mit dem gleichen 8 - Stufen - Getriebe (von ZF) bei 240 km/h nur knapp über 3000 U/min. und nicht fast 4000, wie hier, und der Motor hat im Gegensatz zu jenem des 535i F10 keine Turboaufladung.
Woher weißt du das er im 8. Gang war...
Im Sport Modus bleibt das Auto oft im 7. Gang ;)

Wer sagt denn, dass der zu geringe Abstand durch mich verursacht war? Der Ford Mustang ist vor mir auf die linke Spur gezogen, obwohl rechts alles frei war. Lichthupe hat nichts gebracht, also wurde es etwas enger, bis er dann endlich merkte, dass er nicht allein auf der Autobahn fährt.

Most car accidents occur because of closing up to much. The faster you are, the more you need to hold the gap. There is no problem with driving fast, but do in it a responsible way.

Die Start-Stop Automatik wäre ja das erste was ich abschalten würde :) Ich kann mich einfach nicht an daran gewöhnen, dass es sich anfühlt als würde man den Motor abwürgen. Da fühl ich mich immer wie ein Fahranfänger :)

in the same time my Proton Gen 2 1.6L.. has top speed at 240 how could this happen !
my guess would be the tires. Either one or more were under-inflated, or perhaps damaged. BMWs use run-flat tires which have very stiff sidewalls. It's great when there's a puncture, but big potholes are its worst enemy. The lack of flex means the sidewall can get warped if you hit a bad pothole, thereby ruining the tire. There might not be any visible signs, but you feel it when you drive, especially at high speed. If you haven't already, get the tires checked
Doch ist er. Selbst wenn der andere ausschert zum Überholen ohne Blinker wie laserfrankie hier schreibt hat er dennoch sorge zu tragen das er den Sicherheitsabstand von ~40m hält.
Dies wäre in diesem Fall auch problemlos möglich gewesen.
Erstens durch stärkeres Bremsen (das war jetzt nicht kurz vor der Vollbremsung)
Zweitens fährt er im Abstand von 10m mit selber Geschwindigkeit hinter ihm her, weiter abbremsen wäre möglich.
Gibt es heutzutage noch Hersteller, wo Blinkhebel einrasten? Das ist doch selbst z.B. bei einem Astra H nicht mehr so.
Bin den neuen 5er noch nicht gefahren, denke aber es wird wie bei meinem E92 sein:
Tippen -> Komfortblinken
Tippen mit Widerstand überwinden -> echtes Blinken
just came back from germany and i had some wierd porblems with my 2012 520. at around 180 km/h the car was very unstable and it was really scary to drive. at around 200 i dident even want to take corners as it feelt like it would "jump" to the right or left. do you know why? my old audi a6 2.2 had no problems and could max it out at around 210 without feeling any more unstable then at 120km/h. is it cux i am missing the sport chassi? please any one replay :)

hier sieht man mal wieder was du für ein super autofahrer bist. Manchmal muss man aufs Gas drücken, vorallem bei so einem Auto ;D Du hälst dich immer an den Abstand, gefährdest deine Mitmenschen nicht, hast aber trotzdem Spaß. Leider kommt das vorallem in deutschland seeeehr selten vor :P

God i wish we had Autobahns in America, we can only dream to be able to drive our cars this fast. Many of us will never get close to these speeds.

I think the wind noise has more to do with the camera mounting than what the driver would actually hear.
forr the long term go for the 535d. you will make saving which will repay you in time and they are quicker on acceleration than the 528i as well as more economical.

it steers very smooth. although it is relatively heavy for my taste. it feels very light on its toe.
