This is a much needed video for the families and businesses in that area. The rail company and the feds will do everything to sweep this under the carpet if possible. They need our prayers and nagging to the officials of that area to get something done for them. Thanks Mike for having the guts to post this video!

Hi Mike, here in Youngstown the coverage of the rail disaster is constant. Update constantly, local news stories every day, Dewines office has been hands on from the beginning, local authorities have been transparent as they can be. My problem is that they had a public hearing over here and ALL the interested parties were represented except one--NORFOLK SOUTHERN RAILROAD!!! That’s an outrage, and it leaves the impression that we are being lied to! Also a disturbing video has surfaced of the train passing through Salem, Ohio ( approx 5 miles away) already obviously already on fire! Unbelievable!!! And the railroad send s no rep to the public meeting.

@@msmith7472Same with the feds and FEMA. They said "we only do hurricanes and tornados." WTF??? People need to step back an look at the bigger picture here. Multiple people and agencies are in a conspiracy to cover this up. The federal government knows exactly how bad this is but they refuse to take it seriously or address it in any kind of reasonable manner. They didn't say squat until what...a few days ago? 2 weeks later they finally say FEMA will help. They are all in each others pockets trying to cover this up. This either the most incompetent bullshit we have ever seen or intentional. Probably both. Great way to get people off the land and move them into smart cities when their land is poisoned. I hope you folks see what's going on here. You add in the movie white noise that was released a year prior showing the same event in the same place...yeah sure this was just an "accident". 🙄

Mike and Melissa, I'm glad you're all OK. I worked a similar train derailment in Miamisburg, Ohio, in July 1986. Our train was carrying phosphorous, which was poisonous in the air. This, too, happened right next to the Great Miami River. I was a police K9 officer in an adjacent city. We blocked roads, and the cities were evacuated for days. We've recovered well. I've lost friends at a young age. Many with odd cancers and respiratory issues. Protect yourselves if that air starts moving your way. Protect your pets. Prayers for safety and well-being. Our situation was handled very well by the city government, in my opinion.

I worked at a convenience store on the west side of York during the ordeal. The parking lot/gas pumps were jam packed with people trying to get out of the area. Crying women holding babies, vehicles load to the brim with worldly possessions, tempers flaring. It left an everlasting impression that I will never forget. My family had a plan in case of a meltdown. We were all going to rendezvous in Pittsburg at my cousin's house. Before leaving, my co-worker and I were going to load up our cars with anything and everything from the store rather than let it become radioactive.

Mike, I agree with you. I went to work for a state agency, and I worked in what was called the control center. We directed the actions on the floor and took all the phone calls, and transferred them to whomever they were meant for. We had to do safety and security drills. They had the federal playbook on bomb threats. It had a host of questions to ask on a bomb threat call. I asked the safety officer the person over the drills if he had ever taken a call before. He said no. I told him this was the dumbest thing I ever read. I told him I had taken several calls in my law enforcement job. That you will get none of the questions answered in the bomb section of the book. I explained that the calls go like this. There is a bomb in the building. Click the call is over. That is how every call went of that type. Having a book and page of questions was not going to change it. In typical government fashion, his response was that is how it has to be done. It didn't matter that a person with knowledge and experience knew it was wrong. Just do it, and that is how the government works.

So far the railroad has been very good about looking into any issues that I have seen. I hope that it stays that way. As far as the government goes I am not sure exactly how good that is. Mike, I follow this from Germany and I know such "accidents" right on my doorstep. Since the accident in the Sandoz (Switzerland) directly across the Rhine opposite me. The entire Rhine was totally poisoned. All life in it dead. Down to the mouth of the North Sea. It took years until there was life in the Rhine again. The city of Basel narrowly escaped disaster. There was dioxin and phosgene in the smoke cloud. Well, for 4 years a small landfill with toxic waste has been excavated here on the German side. Huge security precautions. A closed hall above. Workers with respiratory protection in it. Air and water are filtered. The waste comes in special containers and is brought by rail to Holland to a high-temperature furnace where it is "cleaned". The dump of the chemical industry is about 50 X 50 meters and the depth now excavated is almost 30 meters. This has caused huge costs and these have been paid by the polluters. Incidentally, we have the highest cancer rate in the European population. This is due to the heavy chemicals in this corner of Germany, Switzerland, France. Our drinking water (groundwater) has been purified for almost 50 years with enormous effort and checked 2 times a day. I hope that the population does not trust any of the politicians and company representatives. Make a class action lawsuit and independent labs should review everything on an ongoing basis. Step on his feet or send them to hell

By the way, it also took us a long time for the chemical company (Hoffman la Roche) to remove this landfill. But at least we have democracy and proper laws here. Not like in the USA where 2 parties are controlled by the industry, fighting over the money and stuffing their pockets. It's damn time for a third party in the US to take care of the future and the environment.

Would you just do way with government regulation, and oversight? Would you do away with the EPA, FAA, OSHA, and all the others? That's the way it was a 150 years ago, companies just did what they wanted to do...no safety rules, no oversight. Just dump that chemicals and crap in the river. Could you imagine South West Airlines determining what kind of pilot training they should have, or how they should maintain their airplanes with out the FAA telling them what they need to do? Think long and hard about it. We need strong government regulations. Could it be more efficient? Of course it could, but I'm afraid it would be worse with out the oversight.

Part of my land is designated wetland, and I had to build a driveway 350' through to get to my back pasture. Took me 2 years and cost me almost $30,000 to get a piece of paper that said I was allowed to build a dirt driveway with culverts on my own land. There was never any question of whether I was allowed to build it ... I just had to get all the engineering plans checked and rechecked and then pay all their fees. One of their guys actually told me it was just to small for them to care about, so it was at the bottom of their stack and cost me even more because I'm just an individual trying to follow their rules.

True story, I worked for a local Health Care company that haul Liquid Oxygen. One day probably 20 yrs ago another company that did the same thing had one of their vans catch fire. The Director of Emergency Services for the county called me to ask what they should do with the the van. I was also a volunteer fire fighter (assist chief at the time) so I asked him a few questions about the tank itself which he really had know idea about the safety valves and such that are built into this containers. End result was there was no real emergency at all. Same man gave me advice one night on a kerosene spill, that was and I quote, "The solution to pollution is dilution." This man has since passed away but he was in charge of "Emergencies" for a very long time. Scary!

    Hello! 🙂
The train had 150 cars in it. That's too many. No train should have more than 100 cars. The train was on fire before the derailment occurred probably due to a failed wheel bearing that overheated. A three man crew cannot properly monitor the condition of the cars when the train has too many cars in it.
Lessons can be learned from this mistake.
