- GALADRIEL VOICE OVER: I amar prestar aen (The world is changed).
Han mathon ne nen (I feel it in the water)
Han mathon ne chae (I feel it in the Earth.)
A han noston ned gwilith (I smell it in the air.)
Much that once was is lost. For none now live who remember it.
Lord of the Rings titles.
A forge appears where someone is casting some rings.
GALADRIEL VOICE OVER: It began with the forging of the Great Rings.
Three hands are shown.
GALADRIEL VOICE OVER: Three were given to the elves. (Galadriel looks at her ring Gil-Galad and Cirdan are behind her looking at theirs.) Immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings. (seven rings are shown on a table and picked up by dwarves who admire them and hold them up in the air.) Seven to the dwarf lords, great miners and craftsmen of the mountain halls. (The camera moves back and focuses in on nine men all holding one ring each and looking at them.) And nine, nine rings were gifted to the race of men. (They drop their arms to their sides) Who above all else, desire power. (They fade away to a black screen.)
Changes to show a map of Middle Earth.
GALADRIEL VOICE OVER: For within these rings was bound the strength and will to govern each race. (The map moves towards Mordor.) But they were all of them deceived. (Black screen.) For another ring was made. (Map reappears showing Mordor.) In the land of Mordor, (Mount Doom appears on the screen.) in the fires of Mount Doom (Changes to show Sauron wreathed in flames.) the dark Lord Sauron forged in secret a master Ring (Shows Sauron in full armour holding the Ring.) to control all others and into this Ring he poured all his cruelty, his malice (fire moves across the screen and the Ring appears spinning over and over.) and his will to dominate all life. (Shows Sauron's finger with the one Ring on it.) One Ring to rule them all.
The scene changes to show the map of Middle Earth again. Scenes of strife and war fade in behind the map
GALADRIEL VOICE OVER: One by one the free lands of Middle Earth fell to the power of the Ring. But there were some who resisted. (Changes to show soldiers advancing on a battlefield.) A last alliance of Elves and Men marched against the armies of Mordor. And on the slopes of Mount Doom they fought for the freedom of Middle Earth.
We see the armies of Orcs battling with the armies of Elves and Men.
ELROND: Tangado haid! (Hold positions!)
The Elves bring up their shields.
ELROND: Leithio i philinn! (Fire arrows!)
The Elves fire arrows into the Orc ranks. The Orcs advance and the Elves bring up their swords to slash into the front line. The battle ensues and is very fierce. We see Gil-Galad spear an Orc on the ground. Elendil brandishes his sword.
GALADRIEL VOICE OVER: Victory was near. (Elrond stops fighting, Elendil stops fighting, they look up in fear.) But the power of the Ring (Sauron steps onto the battlefield with the Ring on his finger.) could not be undone.
The Elves and Men back off looking fearful. Sauron comes forward. He swings his mace scattering Men and Elves all over the field. Elendil moves forward to try to engage him, but he is thrown away by the mace. He crumples against the rock, dropping his sword.
GALADRIEL VOICE OVER: It was in this moment, (Isildur moves towards his father, takes his helmet off and holds Elendil to him.) that Isildur, son of the King, took up his father's sword.
Isildur looks up at Sauron and dives for his father's sword. Sauron stamps on it breaking it. He makes a grab for Isildur who swipes at his hand with the broken sword, severing the finger with the Ring on it. It falls to the ground. Elendil opens his eyes and looks at it in astonishment. Isildur looks up at Sauron who begins to glow brighter and brighter. There is a massive explosion sending a shock wave all across the armies, knocking the soldiers from their feet. Sauron's helmet crashes to the ground.
GALADRIEL VOICE OVER: Sauron, the enemy of the Free Peoples of Middle Earth was defeated. Развлечения
The greatest first 4 minutes in cinematic history, LOTR is a masterpiece.
Except Saroun went down like a little bitch, like he barely did shit and died after 1 hit

Depends on your definition of beauty. But in Tolkien’s sense, that is what is interpreted.

One of the most prolific lines in any movie opening. Sends shivers down my spine every time Lady Galadriel says it, and the fading in of the music and the title. Pure magnificent perfect art! Thank you everyone who worked on this amazing trilogy, not to forget J.R.R. Tolkien of course, and the amazing mind of his that made this possible in the first place.
Also you know, maybe write things down and update it to the current most common language? You're immortal elves, what else will you do?
I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who said-“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”
Also the part after this…”Darkness crept back into the forests of the world. Rumor grew of a shadow in the East, whispers of a nameless fear, and the Ring of Power perceived. Its time had now come”.. the whole like 7-8 minutes of this is just amazingly written and read by Galadriel. It’s the best intro in movie history.
It's amazing how this is actually a gross simplification of the history of what happened, and it still manages to be epic as hell, perhaps it's even better because it was simplified.
I can't get over everything I love about this scene. It's so intense.
"The Elves, ...'wisest'... of all beings....."
"Oh, free magical rings! Fuck yes!" There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.
I mean, elven smiths forged the rings themselves with the help of Sauron's knowledge. The 3 greater elven rings were made by Celebrimbor from start to finish. They weren't able to bind their wearers because they were never touched by Sauron.
Bruh, you really don't know the lore. At first, Sauron disguised himself as a representative of the Valar. His fake name was Annatar, Lord Of Gifts, he teached the elven smiths to create the Rings of Power (19), one of the Elven smiths (Celembrimbor) created the 3 by himself, untouched by Sauron. Soon after, he created The One Ring and put it on, thinking the Elves would obey to his every command, but once Sauron put the ring on, the elves, realizing that Sauron's intentions are evil, took off the rings. Sauron became outraged, he waged open war against the elves. He got the other 16 while Celembrimbor and the others hid the 3, He gave 7 to the dwarves and 9 to mortal men, the dwarves will was too strong, it resisted the power of the one ring but it enhanced the dwarves greed, the 9 were to weak to resist to the power of the ring they became ringwraiths. So that's the story of The Rings Of Power.
"The elves, wisest of all beings..."

No matter how many times I watch this I always loved the battle, it was so badass to see Sauron in action and knock those men like they were ragdolls 😀
I cannot read the fiery letters,’ said Frodo in a quavering voice.
‘No,’ said Gandalf, ‘but I can. The letters are Elvish, of an ancient mode, but the language is that of Mordor, which I will not utter here. But this in the Common Tongue is what is said, close enough:
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.
It is only two lines of a verse long known in Elven-lore:
Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all. One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.’
Can you explain how something can be written in elvish but be in the language of mordor? This means there are two different languages...?
@@magicscoolbus3834 The orcs were once elves, during the 1st age, they were captured in huge numbers by Morgoth and later tortured and transforming to orcs. The old language of the elves were corrupted and thus later it became the language of Mordor.

No villian has got such an epic intro
Words simply can not describe the emotions you are going through when watching this intro and for that matter the whole trilogy
Just look at this beauty ! Those who do not love the original work should never be given the opportunity to adapt it !
And that's the only time you actually see actual sauron, such a mystery enemy within the storyline mostly you only see his effect on middle earth
Nope, this also isn't his actual form. His true physical form died when God himself (Eru) reshaped the world and sinked Numenor with Sauron on it for defying the valar (a pantheon of gods who were weaker than eru)
@@Jonnell01 Kinda makes me wonder if the Valar were actually the bad guys.
Sauron may be not the smartest but he’s definitely not a coward, marching into a battle alone
But he kind of was a coward, when his master, Morgoth was defeated in the War of Wrath, he fled the judgment of the Valar and hid. Same for some of the Balrogs. lol
@@paulmartin6209there's no shame in retreating if it's a tactical retreat🌚
The movie simplified everything. In the books Sauron only comes out fighting when all his armies are destroyed. Sauron is not a fighter, he is not even a good commander. His strength comes from his ability to create and corrupt.
I still remember watching this scene in the theater with my 2 best friends.. I was about 15 years old. I was melted into the seat.. completely forgot where I was and who I was with. I don’t think I was ever so captivated by a movie. Seeing this in the theater was truly amazing. The entire movie is still burned into my mind. A real masterpiece.
The goosebumps you felt when this premiered in theatres was CRAZY! Then to open with a huge war scene with a 12ft behemoth with a monster mace swinging and decimating scores of men at a time… nothing like it
To the credit of Rings of Power, the guy playing Gil-Galad sure does look like the guy who played him way back in the trilogy. Obviously he wasn’t a super prominent character back then, but it’s still cool that he looks similar.
We went from this, sublime perfection, to the Amazon Prime sacrilege “The Rings of Power”.
Why are you calling yourself a nerd?
fun fact i just learned. sauron was a maiar just like gandalf and saruman. Maiar are basically demi-gods and can't really die. so even if sauron did not live on in the ring, and the ring would have been destroyed by isildur he would have just shed his flesh but his 'spirit' would have lived on. (but most likely have been banished from all planes and thus roam the void) but still! TECHNICALLY you cannot kill sauron!
True, but destroying the ring puts him as close to death as possible. He is pretty much completely unable to interact with the world at all once it's destroyed.

I have read all the main and many of the side stories in the Dune series and watched every movie/mini-series in the Dune canon, even the most recent re-telling of the stories by Denis Villeneuve. And I have watched Peter Jackson’s two LOTR trilogies with equal dedication! Both Star Wars and the Dune movies are inspiring, amazing, and entertaining, but when one considers the source material, the screen writing, the acting, the directing, and everything else, the first LOTR trilogy is hands down the greatest sci-fi or fantasy movie ever made! Sauron was very powerful, cunning and quite intelligent. He’s a Maiar, and they cannot die at all. However, his world domination plan with the Rings caused him more harm than he could have ever anticipated. He bounded basically all his power into the One Ring, seeking to dominate all life. Sauron put so much of himself into the Ring that he couldn’t maintain physical form without it. And upon the Ring’s (long postponed) destruction, he could no longer interact with the physical world in any way. He was basically reduced to a powerless, formless, untouchable and invisible ghost that could do nothing but wonder until the end of time for the world.
I got this ring from Amazon. Now I am irresistable!
The greatest intro to ever exist.
I hate that they portrayed sauron creating the rings in his evil form. It makes casual viewers think like how the hell did they even fall for any of that.
Well the movie never directly shows Sauron creating the other rings. One could easily assume that they had been crafted by the elves (they kind of were) and later Sauron created a corrupting Master Ring that took advantage of them. The scene with Sauron’s armored form isn’t directly involved in the forging sequence, either, and could be any time after he left Celebrimbor. It’s kind of necessary for him to show up visually in his armor for the whole prologue to keep the narrative compact. It does downplay his involvement in the deception, but it’s a detail that isn’t really expanded on in the main series, either.
@@CharlieQuartz celebrimbor forged the rings he knew Sauron when he was in elven form. Pure white.
They didn't potray Sauron making the Rings in his evil form, he only does that while making the One Ring.
If you ever watched the full version of the prologue, you would know that it is mentioned how tricked them as Anatar the Lord of Gifts.
@@pyktukasplays4945 I watch the extended versions and what I'm getting at is I wish there was more about how he was in a fare form when working with celebrimbor. They didn't show him in evil form with the eleves but it makes it look like he was just an evil lord who was tryin to make a truce or.somethig. that was my interpretation as a kid seeing it. After reading the books it all made perfect sense.

One of the reasons why The Fellowship is my favorite among the trilogy.
Came back after the end of ROP. It’s good to be home.
1:40 You can see the knife Sauron used to mix his blood with gold to create the one ring.
Question. Does anyone know why the Elves and Dwarves weren’t corrupted by their rings, in the same way as Men were turned into the Nazgul? Has this ever been explained? I would love to hear your thoughts on it.
Because Elven rings were made without the knowledge of Sauron
Also dwarves are ruled by gold and riches not power. If anything it just made them more greedy
Yes , the Rings greatly incremented the Gold frenzy of the Dwarves
@@zandrialee7796 The Dwarves dug too greedily and too deep. You know what they awoke in the darkness of Khazad-dum… shadow and flame
even more in depth: Eru, the creator of everything and basically the gods of gods is the only one that can create life. Elves and men are created by his thoughts while dwarfs shape was created by a valar (a god) of inventions and who created all of the worlds materials. while eru blew life in the shape of the dwarves. (sauron and saruman are 'helpers' of this inventor god btw). Dwarves therefor are more resistant to this domination magic sauron tries to use. instead of being corrupted and eventually enslaved like the nazgul (corrupted men) they instead get an insatiable need to get more wealth, which still topples their kingdoms. The elves created the rings with saurons knowledge (he disguised himself as an elf ) while sauron made the one ring to rule them all. The second sauron puts on the one ring the elves feel the corruption and take the rings off and hide them and therefor do not become corrupted. the men become corrupted easily but gain wealth and power in return. slowely they get turned into the ringwraths and basically become saurons thralls. The reason sauron is doing this is because he is jealous that eru favored the creation of elves above him. and so he REALLLY REAAAAAAALLLY wanted to corrupt the elves. so when this does not work... he becomes enraged and tries to wage war on them. que in the intro where the last allience of elves and men try and stop sauron. There you are all caught up!
With how bad Rings of Power was this still maybe the closest we ever get of seeing Sauron forge the One Ring.
