My mother told me that my great great grandmother who is my grandfather grandmother was born in Kongo but end up in chains in Jamaica. I was born and rise here in Canada and when the media mention anything about Africa is always negative but when I read the great Kongo civilization when I was 16 years old I feel so proud of being Black.

Well, as you heard it from your family, probably it is correct, however the realm of Kongo Dia Ntotila had been very strong, so that a lot of people pretended to be from Kongo. Anyhow, you can read my commentary before this. I regret I did develop only a few the elements indicating that the Kongo-civilisation in that times shows to have been for a very long time a cultural "isolate", allowing to link them to the period of presence in Ethiopia and the first contacts between african cow-breeders and populations of the Middle-east and/or Caucasus, some 8000 years ago... few to trade or to exchange : no metal yet, but cow-breeding, dogs in return ? , and magics...( at least, believed to be so). Strange linguistical tracks between Bantu-languages, Afrosemitic and Indo-European languages attest such exchanges....
If the last people to practice human sacrifice ( of slaves) where African - only a few after others - the first to do so where also Africans... Egyptian Hieroglyphes are 250 years older than the alphabet of the Sumeriens, Africans did work iron in Burundi, 4000 years ago, and about the same time in Nigeria and Central African Republic.... A lot of history to know, bitter and sweet : all what a human can realise, another human will realise it also. Because...both are,...but humans.
290 000 years between birth of mankind and breeding of cow in Africa, and 295000 years to start, without knowing about cow, of breeding of buffalo in Asia, 293 000 to breed horses in Asia, 298000 to breed Lama in America,....295 000 to invent a way to write it down, and within almost no time, everywhere same evolution, often with not any influence...( look the America's ! )...
Just Human. OF COURSE there had to be a lot of History in Africa, but it didn't please the dominant his story...

Kongo meaned to her a magnificant Kingdom , maybe she really was Kongo, but most of people in the America's pretended so. Than even , only a little part of main Kongo dia Ntotila is in Congo, most is in Angola.Congo Brazzaville is Luango or Kakongo, and Luangu-Vili were the biggest producers of slaves of Africa ; their slaves were sold as "Luangu" or "Kongo" : produced by Kongo, as "trade-mark".
The Christian-Muslim slavemarket starts with Pepin the Short, father of Carolus Magnus (emperor) , selling Avars and Saxons, castrated, to the Abassides. About the same time that Kouchitic and Tchadic peoples start with that "industry"...
Before the terror swept down on Africa , most of it was rather well developped, more than Europe...but weakend by the desorder of fleeing people, having to survive ( fleeing for the man-hunters ), they had to develop a culture of clanism and terror. Weakened, they became an easy prey to Europe. And did remain under political concepts of clanism and terror....and both Europe and USA continue to assure the chaos...

Last pretender, ignored for big familyscandal was Nsambu Ntotila, nephew of Holden Roberto, wiped out of all publications ...when Roberto accepted the peace with Luanda, end forced the king clan to consider the end of the kingdom in 1975. But for at least some paysants of Boko Disu ( Madimba, RDC ) , in 1981, the Mwene Kongo was Nsambu Ntotila. At that time, there wasn't an agreement yet between Holden and Neto, that agreement , when it came, was "retroactive". Somme former officers of the Kongo rebels FNLA did for that sake condamn Holden Roberto to death, but disappeared in the prisons of Mobutu...
I think the family of the queen-mother ( completely marginalised ) Nzuzi Kuluki has been victime of the genocide of the Bakongo of Luanda, provoking the end of the fragile peace between MPLA and UNITA. ( Most Bakongo had voted for Savimbi against the MPLA.... ). They were living in Luanda, in the barrio maculusso since about 1990 at last, 1988 at most early.

Misinterpretations of LOCAL LANGUAGES WORDS! SO FAKE!..The COngolese themselves have forgotten the ORIGINAL MEANING of their own languages as is happening across Africa daily
"mani"=is merely the English word MAN as pronounced in BANTU accentNOT LORD!lol,
KONGO is a BANTU word meaning SMALL HEAD(, KÍONGO=normal HEAD).
BLACK SMITH in BANTU is NOT "kongo" that would only be used to say the SMAL HEAD of the FIREPLACE when FORGING.
A BLACK SMITH in BANTU is MÚTURI hence the people called the CONTINENT after the BIGGEST FORGE in the CONTINENT-ITURI-the FORGE, where they made IRON=CUUMA(shuma). Those who were IRONSMITHS were called CUUMARI(SOMALI)...
LUKENI LUA NIMI does NOT mean what they are saying, that is the LOSS OF language right there!. LUKENI is mispronounciation of RUHENI=LIGHTENING; LUA=is RÚA(of), NIMI(NÍMÍ=several physical tongues(not languages)-)-therefore LUKENI LUA NIMI=simply means RÚHENI RÚA NÍMÍ=meaning the PLACE of the MANYTONGUES OF LIGHTENING< CVONGO being the CONFLUENCE of many GREAT RIVERS and therefore the CONVERGENCE Of Thunder and MANY "tongues" of LIGHTENING

KATANGA latinised or Arabised version of the actual term GATANGA in EAST Africa, where the ORIGINAL group spread from KATANGA in CONGO to GATANGA in EAST AFRICA. This royal womans name KALASA-MUKANDA-BANTU means KALASA(KARATHA-an ARCHER)-MUKANDA(Rope)-BANTU(avantu vaitú=our people) hence the ARCHER ROPE of OUR(ava-) PEOPLE(vantu-bantu) vaitu(ours), and she uses terms like KUTEMA=which is GÚTEMA(to CUT) in this case CUT THROUGH mountains...

Simon Correia I would agree on it being a European broadcaster but having to make do with this series of documentaries is not bad at all as Zeinab Abidawi herself is African and she has made a strong effort to get it from the African narrative with all the African scholars from across Africa’s greatest universities contributing to this. Whilst it is the BBC it is exceptional in its effort to have it done and told by the Africans.

Hands-down, this is the best documentary on imperialism in Africa that I’ve seen. Not only is it informative, but it reinforces resistance to imperialism and notes powerful leaders by name who fought against the European imperial powers. I had no idea there were queens who resisted so effectively, and I hope this side of history gets taught more in schools.

It is not a racist European who commented but it is a Banyarwanda. The Banyarwanda are Rwandan immigrants in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. They have been in the Congo for several decades. Some have acquired Congolese nationality but they do not want to integrate into the Congo. They remain attached to Rwanda. Since the Congo has been occupied by Rwanda and Uganda, that is to say since May 17, 1997, the Banyarwanda have joined forces with the Rwandan-Ugandan occupiers to establish the occupation of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC ). In the meantime, they have changed their name, they are now called the Banyamulenge because historically, when they arrived in the Congo, during colonial times, the Belgians had installed them in Mulenge. The Banyarwanda are now claiming land in the DRC because they believe that they have been in the DRC for a long time. The problem is that in the DRC the land belongs to the ancestors and more particularly to the customary chiefs. The Banyarwanda are not indigenous in the DRC so there is no way to give them a territory. They already have nationality but that is not enough for them. In no country in the world have we seen foreigners come to settle in a country and then force the natives of the country to cede them a territory. What is implausible elsewhere, the Banyarwanda want to impose it in the DRC. As the DRC is under Rwandan-Ugandan occupation, the Banyarwanda known as Banyamulenge have manipulated the international community by saying that they are victims of racism, that the Congolese want to exterminate them. The international community should do what is necessary to protect them by giving them a portion of land in the DRC, particularly in Minembwe in South Kivu. Why Minembwe? This is the question because there are more than 85 km between Mulenge, their land of immigration, and Minembwe! Which is entirely false. Since there has been a genocide in the Congo since 1997 and it has already killed 12,000,000. The Banyarwanda were around 40,000 people at the last census during Zaire's time, it was in 1984. So, if you see disdainful or even absurd comments on videos or articles relating to the DRC, it is because there is surely a Banyarwanda behind.

      4) A BLACK SMITH in BANTU is MÚTURI hence the people called the CONTINENT after the BIGGEST FORGE in the CONTINENT-ITURI-the FORGE, where they made IRON=CUUMA(shuma). Those who were IRONSMITHS were called CUUMARI(SOMALI)...
      5) LUKENI LUA NIMI does NOT mean what they are saying, that is the LOSS OF language right there!. LUKENI is mispronounciation of RUHENI=LIGHTENING; LUA=is RÚA(of), NIMI(NÍMÍ=several physical tongues(not languages)-)-
      6) therefore LUKENI LUA NIMI=simply means RÚHENI RÚA NÍMÍ=meaning the PLACE of the MANYTONGUES OF LIGHTENING< CVONGO being the CONFLUENCE of many GREAT RIVERS and therefore the CONVERGENCE Of Thunder and MANY "tongues" of LIGHTENING
      7) VITA means WAR, so the CRUSADERS and LATINS used WOMEN to fight against their own BLACK MEN as these women like the FAKE "KINGDOMS" MADE(by imperialists) were USED to ENSLAVE other BANTU. African means MIXED RACE AFRO-ARAB-CUSHITIC "blacks' who then the Euro-Asiatic-Semnitics would interbreed with to create a WHITE SUPER-GENE Race!
      8) NZINGA is a short form for GUN, but it came from a mongrelized MISUSE of the term FOOL=MJINGA, meaning a MAN who FIRED A GUN then DROPPED AND RUN out of fear of the sound! and was called back "COME BACK! YOU FOOL(Mjinga!)-SHIKA(hold it!)YOUFOOL(Mjinga)=so the locals thought its the GUN that was called MJINGA!-in HOLD(shika)it, FOOL(MJINGA!)!' BOTH these womens names are CONTRIVANCES of pidgin!!...
The BANTU come from ITURI the proper name of so-called by ROmans="Africa". They moved from CENTROL CONGO=ITURI and spread ACROSS the continent where they HAD BEEN ORIGINALLY as OTHER SONS AND DAUGHTERS of Adam and Eve(Genesis 5:4) besides the NOAHIDES, BEFORE the FLOOD forced themto take refuge close to their other relatives in ITURI-CONGO KA MARÚÍ MAINGÍ...TheyONLY INTERMARRIED with the descendants of JOKTAN, PELEGS BROTHER(Genesis 10:22ff) in the HORN OF AFRICA. JOKTAN is however NOT the father of ARABS(HAGAR=Egyptian & Abraham-Semite) as imperialist Arabs say, but are the BANTU who intermarried with the DESCENDANTS of SETH before the flood at HORN AFRICA, and therefore were MORE AFRICAN, making all SEMTICS BANTU-SEMTICS-the Afro-Semitic-Cushitics.

It should be the duty of our schools in the western world to teach the atrocities that we have caused, and continue to cause, as well. That is usually glossed over. We will never heal anything unless the ones responsible acknowledge it, and are shown the brutality and the long term effects. Dear Madam Badawi. My name is Constantin Pop from Romania. What I want to tell is that not all Europeans were/are conquerers of African people. We, the Romanians, never went to conquer the lans of other people. So, please, from now on, when you are trying the tragical history of African civilisations, by a basically respect for the truth, don't say Europeans when you are referring to the english, french, belgian and other conquerors from Europe. Best wishes for you!

Misinterpretations of LOCAL LANGUAGES WORDS! SO FAKE!..The COngolese themselves have forgotten the ORIGINAL MEANING of their own languages as is happening across Africa daily
      1) "mani"=is merely the English word MAN as pronounced in BANTU accentNOT LORD!lol,
      2) KONGO is a BANTU word meaning SMALL HEAD(, KÍONGO=normal HEAD).
      3) BLACK SMITH in BANTU is NOT "kongo" that would only be used to say the SMAL HEAD of the FIREPLACE when FORGING.

      AVANTU VAITU=ADÚ AITU=BANTU=(=ADÚ)-Common etymologically oldest BANTU WORDS are still in use;

      8)KUBA=Kúúba(to CREATE=CREATOR or POTTER)
      9)NUBA=(Nyúúba=HOUSE)
      10)LUBA(RÍÚBA=Potters CLAY)
11)KUBA NUBA-LUBA all mean the ORIGINS of a HOME=pro-CREATE(Kúúba)-to form A HOUSE(nyúúba=house to home)-and cook to raise family(RÍÚBA-potters clay for making pottery for the home-Cooking pot, & Water pot) In this they KNEW CLAY-FIRING and used PIT FIRE KILS and the FORGE(ITURI) to BAKE CLAY.
So building with BRICKS was jus the NEXT STEP since the FIRING TECHNOLOGY and IRON SMITHING were already KNOWN TECHNOLOGIES
12)BAULE=VA-ÚRE(-aúre=those who have been UNDRESSED-denoting the people who had been conquered-hence "undressed" of their power and hence STRIPPED of their CULTURAL PRACTICES for those of the INVADERS)
13)The BANTU were theDARK-BROWN-WOODY-LOAM SOIL-MAHOGANY(hence MÚKÚYÚ tree COLOUR)-were the TALLEST PEOPLE in the world, who INTERMARRIED with the CAIN-SETH Intermingled peoples of SOUTH AMERICA, AFTER the FLOOD and the CONTINENTAL DRIFT, about after the birth of PELEG according to the SEMITES. SOME of the SMALL STATURE(Dwarf-)REMNANT SOUTH AMERICAN Indo-Asiatic LIGHT SKIN people, REMAINED in the CONGO-region where they were CUT OFF from the others LIGHTENING the colour of the BANTU in the CONGO region. INDO-ASIATIC INTERMINGLED people came from the days of Genesis 6 Inter-Marriage between the descendants of CAIN and SETH.
GENERAL HISTORY OF AFRICA by BBC is merely a CONTINUITY of COLONIAL DISCOURSE! Once the COLONIAL ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURES were laid in Afircan governments, the COLONIALISTS BUILT MEGA Structures as CITIES through which they GRABBED LAND that they continue to CONTROL and use to CONTROL EVEN MORE LAND Int he INTERIOR using Africans as LABOUR whether in their URBAN INTERESTS or in their RURUAL AGRICULTURAL and MINERAL INTERESTS.
ARAB-SEMITIC, EUROPEAN & INDO-ASIATIC ENSLAVEMENT of Africa and continued SLAVERY and COLONIALISM is still WELL AND ALIVE to this DAY!-The African presidents ae merely WELL PAID CEOS enabling the CONTINUITIES of COLONIALSIMS and IMPERIALISTIC EXPANSION of Europeans into the HEARTLAND of the continent, using CITIES & CHURCHES to CONTROL the tiniest village!

I Honestly feel that this is still the main reason for all the division and confusion in Africa till date, the Constitutions in most African countries are in a way written to favour more a particular tribe chosen by the colonial powers to allow room for more exploitation post Independence, however the tribe that is favoured will not want to amend it, and because they have been in power for so long they have more money and connection to fight anyone else in their way! It's sad, Africa need to always remember we are one people and now re write our own Constitutions to be fair and favourable to all tribes for peace to reign and the continent to Flourish

You are a really smart person. It's do true what you said. The master chosen the weaken tribe , sometimes they are not even the big population in the country, to give them the power and protection. I see it in gabon, Cameroun, kenya, tchad, togo,.... I won't include Angola ,Botswana, kenya, Tanzania cuz they don't run their country based on tribes system but in one people

      Common etymologically oldest BANTU WORDS are still in use;
FOr example, The originally CUSHITIC-ARAB MASAI=Maathai=meaning go ahead and GEAN=hence GLEANERS of Kenya. These were MIGRANTS who arrived as PASTORALISTS with their cow and did not farm but rather GLEANED on the BANTU FARMS in exchange for beef. They HERDED their cows on the HUNTING GROUNDS of the BANTU and intermarried as a strategy to remain in the land.
The BRITISH did not take SETTLER COLONIAL LAND in Uganda ONLYbecauyse Uganda is LANDLOCKED and they knew it would be HARDER TO DEFEND, but KENYA had a COASTLINE which they could use their MARINES to PROTECT their COLONIAL SETTLER IMPERIALISM with
The Royal woman MUKANDA, used words that were ANCIENT and still hold the SAME MEANING such as
      1) va tata: children of my auntie
      2)vana vanje: our children
      3)vana varume: male children
      4)King MSIRI=King MÚCIIRI(meaning judge)=MUSHIRI
5)MASUKA=used to IDENTIFY those who snitched and told on THE COMMUNITY-MACUKA(those 6)who were bought with FABRIC(clothe=macuka=masuka) REPORT-ACCUSE the community)-so the 7)NAME was used AS A WARNING against this treachery
      8)KUBA=Kúúba(to CREATE=CREATOR or POTTER)
