I am a native California Vietnam era veteran. The 2024 CA Proposition 1 is 67.5 pages of a needlessly tedious and convoluted crock of legal jargon. I believe it would line the pockets of developers and administrators and do very little to help veterans or any of the other categories of people who make up California's homeless population. As far as veterans are concerned, the US Veterans Administration has responsibility for veterans who suffer from service related health problems. They are not the responsibility of the states, except to apply pressure on the VA to do its job. I suggest a NO vote on prop.1 to save $6 billion for California taxpayers.

Look at the special interests behind the this Ballot Initiative who are bribing Newscum and the Democrats in the Legislature. The Governor is lying in his Television/ Internet Commercials. We didn't have this homeless problem in the 1970s/ 80s/ 90s/ 2000s/ 2010s, etc. until all of the Democrat Welfare State programs and Homeless Programs/ Policies which promoted drug use/ abuse and then homeless people from all over America migrated to California.

Los Angeles already ALLEGEDLY allocates MILLIONS of dollars ANNUALLY for these same issues, and the homelessness situation has gotten larger and gotten worse. You can't just keep throwing tax payer money at this issue.
First off, where is this money ACTUALLY going and who is ensuring that it is properly allocated? Because if it's anything like it currently is, all of that will go back to the county and state, with hardly any of those funds actually going towards housing and mental health.
The REAL ISSUE is that you can't force folks to get mental health treatment, to get drug treatment, or live someplace they don't want to. The MAJORITY of the perennial homeless population simply does not want to be housed or helped, or they simply aren't good candidates to be housed due to their mental health and drug issues... Which they aren't able/willing to address. It's not as easy as saying "Here's a room, live here".
And what's worse is that the people who ACTUALLY need assistance AND WANT assistance are the ones who can't actually get help from the county (unless you're a single mother).
There is SO MUCH red tape and bureaucracy surrounding the process that dealing with that WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY being homeless is too insurmountable an obstacle to overcome, which forces folks deeper into homelessness.

The Youth Mental Health field is scrambling to figure out which programs they will hold on to in the event that prop 1 passes because the proposition will be funded by a 30% cut across the board in public mental health funding. People under 18 are seeing a massive rise in mental health crises in the wake of the pandemic, and the state doesn't have enough therapists, psychiatrists, and social workers to treat young people in need right now. Depending on which part of Los Angeles a public school is in, there can be a 1 to 6 month waiting list for youth mental health treatment, and if prop 1 passes, that will only get worse. Please don't cut 1/3rd of public mental health treatment just to hand the money over to bureaucrats and developers. The budgets for social services are stretched thin to begin with, and this money isn't going to help unhoused people, it's just going to fatten the same developers who have consistently underdelivered on public housing contracts.
