Greetings. I am a casual Rocket League player who uses the Ripper. Why do I use it? Because it's legitimately the only car in the entire game that looks good with my favorite topper (Cavalier). Let me tell you what I've found. To be honest, ever since Psyonix standardized the hitboxes (and even before then) there was no objective best car. The only differences were/are the dimensions, which made certain tasks easier or harder. Even cars that have a lower surface area could be better at fakes or demolitions. Anyways, the reason cars like the Octane, Dominus and Breakout are so popular is because they actually look like their hitboxes. But since said hitboxes are shared amongst multiple cars now, that means the Ripper is basically just a reskinnned Dominus and the Scarab is just a reskinned Octane. No car is objectively worse, some simply take longer to get used to. Don't conform to the illusory Octane/Dominus/Breakout "meta." Use the car that suits you or your customization choices the best, and you'll become just as good as the pros with time.
I think there's an argument to be made over which is better for you, Octane/Dominus/Breakout/Hybrid/Plank, but between them within each group, go with what you like. I have... I think 13 Dominus presets, at least one of every one in the game, and will happily cycle through every single one in a session. Okay, I am not happy about the Paladin, I forget it's in there.
My 2 favorite cars are Takumi and Twinzer, because I feel I am better with small-box cars rather than the long-flat ones, but also because I dont like Octane. He looks little bit retro.
I've ranked up in my scarb from bronze 1 to gold 2 in two week I love this I've noticed that it's fast at sharp turns also noone see it coming so 8 times out of ten the ball is boomed downfield before the opponent has noticed it's gone I will rank up to high level in this little ninja... Great vid.. also the reaction of my opponent is usually OMG OR WHY WHY WHY LOL
I literally did this with my friend, we did a 1v1, and I challenged him that if he could score one goal on me, I'd use the scarab for an entire month. When I turned upside down, he stole the ball and got an easy goal. Keeping to my word, I went to change my car, then realized I didn't own the scarab. So, I used the gizmo :/
Everyone say it with me, the Scarab is exactly the same as the Octane except for the 3d model. Same hitbox, same turning radius, same everything, except visuals. Just screwing with ya Sunless, but it is true :P
Honestly imo, i feel like the octane has I flatter surface on hitbox where the hood is locayed at than the scarab. The scarab is like round but some what flat from the top of the car.
Yes, this is all true. But the way it looks somehow affects how it feels, and that affects the way you play. Which is pretty much what Sunless was saying; just because it's psychological doesn't mean it isn't true.
they have the exact same hitbox, it was in an update a good while back, there are technically only 6 hitboxes in the entire game. Octane, Breakout, Hybrid, Dominus, Plank, and Batmobile (which is only a tiny variation on the plank hitbox.)
I know that, and i wildly agree with that sentiment. But in the video he says @5:20 "even though the turning radius is better than the octane." which it isn't. Also, i dont actually care, im just giving him shit guys. :)
@@joaken1 I think that even though cars may have the same hit box the hit box may be on a slightly different angle in between different cars which makes them play and feel a little different due to improved or worse hood control, flicks etc.
I periodically use the scarab as my main for a few weeks or a month here and there. If someone says it dribbles poorly...they are absolutely wrong. It's SO easy to dribble with. You don't have to pop it up on to your car. The ball just goes up the scarab, with no effort. A big problem I consistently notice is flipping into the ball, and hitting it with the wheels. maybe it's because of how short the car is, haven't figured that one out, but it happens a lot. I don't notice any change in skill, because I think the scarab is cool. But you are right, it doesn't "seem" fast, which affects your decision making, and reaction times. You get boosts to your game in some areas, and experience problems in others. lol, pretty much like the video says.
The weird things u feel when u play the scarab is due to the fact that in appearance, the hitbox isnt the same but the actual hitbox hasnt the shape of the cars, it has the normalize shape of every cars
What I learned from your 1 month experience with the Scarab, is that you don't like playing with it, and prefere the more traditional Octane to it. Yet again, the Scarab itself PROVED to be just as good as any other car, making you lose and win basically at the same ratio as you used to anyways, and that you decided to change off of it permanentely because you just didn't feel psychologically okay with playing with this car, and this means, that you need to play with the car you feel comfortable. No matter if it's the Octane, the X-devil, the Scarab, the Proteus, the Dominus, or the Skyline (or, needless to say, any other car), what matters is that you feel the most comfortable with that car, and you feel like you play your best with it. Forget hit-boxes, forget turning radiuses, forget height from the ground. Just play what you feel like playing, and what you see yourself succeeding the most in, no more, no less.

Thank you for this video and saying that you don't have to use the best cars. I'm a guy who loves casual play and making bad stuff feel better. Knowing this video exist and others support scarab is wonderful.
I said it on the last video, but I would love to see this become a series where u play different cars for a month and see your honest opinion on different cars. Wp tho
my biggest problem is when poeple say cars suck yet you see people like jezher have ZERO problems doing ceiling shots and freestyles and it looks no diff then him using the batmobile or the octane or dominus... the cars dont suck the people like jzher saying they do when infact they dont. THEN you said you left on a trip for 4 days and after you came back you lost 8 games in a row? well no shit.. the scarab had ZERO do to do with that lol even me whi play with the octane 90% of the time if i dont play for a certain amount of days i play like shit the controls feel weird the car feels weird. .tahts why you lost not because of the car.. its because you took a break
what i take from this is that it's okay for me to feel more confortable playing with Backfire and Road Hog than with other cars because that's my personal preference. Btw, I think the Scarab looks way cooler than the Octane
Has anyone else tried using the cyclone? Since it came out I use it about half the time. It's the first import that I've actually enjoyed playing with and I think it just looks amazing!!!! (Especially painted with a painted mainframes and dracos like, cobalt, crimson and lime). Just curious if anyone else has liked using it.
this inspired me to use the scarab. i now main it. because it grew on me? because i want to go against the norm? no, because i was too last to change it so now people get mad when they see me join games.
While I appreciate and respect the experience, ability, and investment, I feel that after a seven-and-a-half minute video about a month long experiment, there are only common sense or non-conclusions. "Use whatever car you want to or feel good with" - okay. "Even if cars are technically the same, they're not the same..." what? "The placebo effect isn't a placebo because it still has an effect" - that's the point. Again, respect but RUclips keeps suggesting your videos and I've only been disappointed. I'll keep on playing mediocre with my breakout presets.
This is super interesting... when I started playing RL recently, the first car I used was the Scarab. I recently bought the DC Batmobile and thought it looked badass but I play WORSE with it!
The secret weapon of the scarab is it's ability to tilt the hell out of the enemy team when playing well. I make mine as ugly as possible to strengthen the effect.
I love when esports people stumble upon platitudes and superstitions that real sports have known about for years. As a baseball player, "look good, play good" is basically Rule 1 of the unwritten section of the rulebook.
I recently was able to get the scarab from trading. It is definitely more of a one's car because (as said in the video) it is great at flicks and amazing at kickoffs. When I first started using it, I almost never lost a kickoff. To be fair, I'm a gold 3 but still. It most certainly, however, sucks at basically anything/everything else. It is pretty bad and feels really awkward when trying to maneuver around the field and sucks in 2's and 3's. If you're a lower rank one's player, this is a great car. If you are literally anything else, use it for fun, but you shouldn't think that you can use this as a regular main (unless you absolutely want to, that's your decision).
as a scarab main, i'm shocked it took me this long to find this video. you gotta utilize the power slides with that bad boy to get the full experience. it's unstoppable.
Hands down best part of this video is at 9:04 when sunlesskhan says "I realize this video hasn't made much sense". Had me laughing super hard. Thank you for that.
I tried the scarab recently, found it interesting but hard to tell which direction it was facing, so some times i'd be facing the wrong way. Also what I took away from this video is as you said, try the cars, see which one fits your style and that's your car/cars.
I'm new to rocket league and I think you're bang on with the mere-exposure effect. Ultimately it's all down to feels, I don't like Scarab, it feels clunky and not "right" and as a result I play worse because I'm not as focused and I try over compensate for perceived problems. But I do like Takumi, Zippy and a few others, so I play better because I'm able to get in to the game quicker and easier. But then I've recently started thinking "Should I be using dominus? Or octane? Everyone else seems to be, maybe I'm missing out on some bonus." but then I played with them, and I'm not a fan, they're not my norm and they feel different and that leads to poorer outcomes because of split focus. But I imagine if I play my next 50 games with them, I'd love them as much as I do Takumi and Zippy just by pure exposure and familiarity.

I picked my scab for an entire month heres what happened
What happened: My scab started to bleed after 6 days, i was rushed to the hospital soon after that.
GG FOR THE 1MILLION SUBS!
Holy shit. I don't even play Rocket League, but this video was amazing. Your insight into human psychology and your self-awareness. Amazing.
I been using scarab for like 3 years now lol

Okey, I had some thoughts, "yyyeah, maybe, its good but meh", now I can finally say it, and I know its true.
I love you, Sunless.
I actually kind of like how the scarab looks.
I use the Dominus, not because it’s popular or whatever, I just like how it feels.
Yeah and let Octane be the most broken car, right? the devs must fix that.
@@ValzzakOfficial what do you mean?
"poop Beatle ass looking car" oh my why is that so funny
*Makes a 1month experiment, then comes back*
Me: "Oh Prometheus what fire of knowledge do you bring to us mortals today?"
Sunless Kahn: "If you do not like a car, do not drive it. Drive a car that you like."
Me: *insert Overrated meme of a electrically charged yellow mouse Pokémon being very shocked*
The scarab looks like the type of decoration people who love Halloween would put up
Thank you for this video and saying that you don't have to use the best cars. I'm a guy who loves casual play and making bad stuff feel better. Knowing this video exist and others support scarab is wonderful.
i used the scarab for a month heres what happened: i uninstalled the game
So after two vids, first before the experiment and one after, the conclusion is still: "idk yet"😂
I said it on the last video, but I would love to see this become a series where u play different cars for a month and see your honest opinion on different cars. Wp tho
when you realise scarab has an octane hitbox...
Thank you for not dragging it the conversation and getting straight to the point whilst remaining detailed
use gizmo next month
As a gizmo main I want this...
But I know it's not happening
Shhhh, The Gizmo is OP. Keep it secret, keep it safe.
my biggest problem is when poeple say cars suck yet you see people like jezher have ZERO problems doing ceiling shots and freestyles and it looks no diff then him using the batmobile or the octane or dominus... the cars dont suck the people like jzher saying they do when infact they dont.
There's a strong correlation between not showering and your rocket league ability.
...The more you shower, the worse you play.
um isn’t the scarab banned from competitive play? because it’s too good probably
Riley Jones I’m still able to use it.
Stalliarus - Gaming i meant like RLCS play. i heard them say it on screen
Riley Jones Ah I see. I’m unsure about that.
what i take from this is that it's okay for me to feel more confortable playing with Backfire and Road Hog than with other cars because that's my personal preference.
Btw, I think the Scarab looks way cooler than the Octane
when you learn that the scarab is octane hitbox and is literally the same thing as the most popular car so it doesn’t change anything:
But visually much different and that's what causes confusion.
I used the Scarab for 1 month
*_I Can Smell Colours_*
Has anyone else tried using the cyclone? Since it came out I use it about half the time. It's the first import that I've actually enjoyed playing with and I think it just looks amazing!!!! (Especially painted with a painted mainframes and dracos like, cobalt, crimson and lime). Just curious if anyone else has liked using it.
recovERed gamER yea I use it in mid champ games and it feels nice
WAIT I THINK I ACTUALLY PLAYED A GAME WITH U DID U PLAY WITH SOMEONE CALLED ALISON 369?!?!
Is that your tag?
he is probably not gonna answer your question, mate.
@@bambus9798 well I may as well try and who cares if he doesn’t and if he does well that’s great
This was the first ever rocket league video I watched, it popped up in my recommended. I bought the game about a week later and now I’m GC.
this inspired me to use the scarab. i now main it. because it grew on me? because i want to go against the norm? no, because i was too last to change it so now people get mad when they see me join games.
I dont know what awkward means anymore
(Scarab for a month)
OCTANE HAS LEFT THE CHAT
When I first started playing I mained scarab. I always said to teammates "be the ball" and it always made me laugh xD
This is super interesting... when I started playing RL recently, the first car I used was the Scarab. I recently bought the DC Batmobile and thought it looked badass but I play WORSE with it!
Now do the grog
30 Days: The Scarab
By Morgan Sunlock
Great comment
A year of proteus now ;)
(don't tell anyone I liked my own comment thanks)
The secret weapon of the scarab is it's ability to tilt the hell out of the enemy team when playing well. I make mine as ugly as possible to strengthen the effect.
I love when esports people stumble upon platitudes and superstitions that real sports have known about for years. As a baseball player, "look good, play good" is basically Rule 1 of the unwritten section of the rulebook.
I like how you thought it would be hard but nobody is talking about how the scarab and octane have the same hit box😂😂😂
I don't think I ever use the same car for too long. I'm constantly customizing and selecting cars for fun.
as a scarab main, i'm shocked it took me this long to find this video. you gotta utilize the power slides with that bad boy to get the full experience. it's unstoppable.
Hands down best part of this video is at 9:04 when sunlesskhan says "I realize this video hasn't made much sense". Had me laughing super hard. Thank you for that.
My mans became a rocket leauge motivational speaker 🤣🤣 at 7:30
I tried the scarab recently, found it interesting but hard to tell which direction it was facing, so some times i'd be facing the wrong way. Also what I took away from this video is as you said, try the cars, see which one fits your style and that's your car/cars.
Sunless has easily became one of my top 3 fav youtubers. Most def my go 2 to get my RL fill. Keep it up mate.
Sunless: and yes I do kind of blame my eight game losing streak on the scarab
The song: I kinda like it
When playing against the scarab it's hard to tell which direction its facing
