You know what, years ago, Mater Dei played at Mission Viejo in the 2nd or 3rd round of the playoffs and someone in the comments asked the same question you're asking. I too wondered why lower seeded teams get home games against higher seeded teams and 2 people explained that if the lower seeded team played more away games in the regular season, then the lower seeded team will play at home against the higher seeded team in the playoffs. Mater Dei played 4 away games and Corona Centennial played 6 away games in the regular season.

I too wondered why lower seeded teams get home games against higher seeded teams and 2 people explained that if the lower seeded team played more away games in the regular season, then the lower seeded team will play at home against the higher seeded team in the playoffs. Mater Dei played 4 away games and Corona Centennial played 6 away games in the regular season.

It seems fair alright. But it would not be a good situation if the home team had a tiny stadium with even smaller seating for the visiting team.
The highest ranked team is guaranteed to host in the first round only. In the following rounds, the team that has hosted fewer playoff games gets to host. If the 2 competing teams have hosted the same amount of playoff games, then a coin flip decides.

Historically, the system they run you use all 4 downs and always go 4 the endzone if your close. Helps them win alot of games but ones like this came back 2 bite them hard
