sorry if the sound is weird, some might be louder than others and vice versa
Peter Cullen is the shit =] Кино
The secret to Toonami is that, as a kid, you felt cool watching it--plain and simple.
I'll be damned if that isn't a great description
This...this is an accurate explanation
Yeah and you felt like you were actually apart of the show too.
@Shane Douglas Yup there was even a back story for Tom Tom every now and then. I remember when something boarded his ship to make him have a new body and everything.
Quite impossible, it did not exist when I was a child. Did make me feel like a kid again when I did watch it, though.
Toonami made us feel cool, Adult Swim made us feel like trouble makers. Shaped a generation
straight up
Adult swim ACTN made us feel like Mob bosses
This comment sums it up well
Well said!
They should sign me???
I wonder how many people would not be in to anime now without Toonami.

half this and fox kids for me
this is why i want to do dubbed voiceovers. the new generation needs to know anime and then become real fans and get into subbed lol dub gets a bad rep, but without it, i wouldn't know about anime
"believe in yourself. create your own destiny. don't fear failure."

facts straight facts
+Justin Earegood Ah the memories
Those were the days when you first start appreciating super badass moments
The people who were behind Toonami understood why we love anime and badass cartoons. This program had soul and you could feel the passion they had for the shows they aired. They didn't show crap and understood what we wanted to see. Toonami may be back but it will never be what it was.
Amen !!
TheUndefeatedMagician that's what hurts most...
“They didn’t show crap”
Ah haha. So we’re just forgetting Johnny Quest was a thing or the original Dub of Cardcaptors?
I revere Toonami as much as the next guy but shows like Tenchi Muyo sucked, lol
Dontavious Sanders wow tenchi was ok the orginal I was good but then other tenchi series fcking ass lol

This shit is so aesthetic. I don't mean to be that guy, but honestly i wish i could go back to it. I love the aesthetic of early 2000s Sci Fi stuff more than anything
TheMGSFan141 i agree dude
The turn of the millennium really made collective populace think about the future for once and it shows in media across the spectrum
Agreed.
That blue grey color that future buildings have.
Yeah something about the way sci fi was portrayed in the early 2000s was cool. I'm sure some of it is nostalgia talking but still it's dope lol.

Optimus Prime supports Toonami cuz I hear Peter Cullen
Just hearing optimus prime saying batman or superman sounds awesome
I like thinking that Optimus is watching over humanity, taking noes on how crazy we all are in these promos.
Bruh hearing him speak knowing it's optimus is badass in itself💯
Imagine it's just Optimus Prime and Tom voice chatting about the anime shows they watch.
"Kids love it"
Toonami had the best music to go with their promos. So much drum and bass!
It really gave off the atmosphere of something epic, deep, and emotional
The announcer also made it fucking epic as hell. Always remember his voice
Don’t forget high hats and snares!!!
its hella hip hop now that I'm older
Mannnnnn!
"Gundam Wing uncut. *Yeah, you heard me.*" God, that's one of the things I loved most about Toonami. They knew exactly how hype their shows were.

the thing i miss about the old Toonami is the promo music. Toonami had some of the best bump and promo beats.
I miss its intimidating ominous military feeling all around, now everyone needs a safe space for clapping.

Honestly, I grew up watching Cartoon Network and nothing else lol. Other than Ed Edd n Eddy, Johnny Bravo and Tom and Jerry, I'd always finish my homework fast as hell on weekdays and stay up on weekends with my older brother to watch Toonami. Man...those were the days.
BiG CAM same with my dad and older brother when I was like 5 or 6 good memories
The BiG CAM the golden day's of anime I miss them to
Toonami's first airing of 0079 was way too early on weekdays so I'd have to run home and get lucky if only the intro was playing. I had to hold my homework off till later. Good discipline though.

But hell man, this whole video had me choked up with nostalgia.

This was my life in the 90's.
Now, these were the good old days. You come home after a crap day at school and be narrated into a wonderful world of anime by the smooth tones of Peter Cullen & Steve Blum.
So this is what optimus prime did in the 90's/2000's, he was a narrator.

Man, i am crying right now because this was the turning point and birth of anime becoming main stream in america... I remember barely seeing dragon ball z and sailor moon season 1 reruns after the saturday morning cartoons were over and than cartoon network takes a gamble and starts educating us on anime. Even older stuff like voltron and robotic, then when pokemon hit the scene this folded the gates: Gundam Wing, Cowboy Bebop, Tenchi Muyo and so much more; manga movie and distribution became the underground hardcore scene and now were here. Tom who is voices by Steven Blum the man has so many characters under his belt that he is toonami, but also the voice of optimus prime Peter Cullen giving these badass five minute promos for each anime. He had a catch phrase for each one and engrained in my heart so, for my favorite one from Gundam Wing "Suit up......"
Anime was getting big in America way before toonami. Dbz came to America on the 90s
When Optimus Prime introduced us to every new show or film on Toonami... I member

Toonami’s early 2000’s was the best, hands down. I remember coming home after school to catch a good episode of Dragon Ball Z. Then when it was Saturday nights, I would stay up and watch Toonami and MTV. Some of the best childhood past times.
I remember these promos. The drum and bass was too sick. I actually got my hands on toonami: Deep Space Base because of these. They just sold the hell out of these shows :).
Wow.....this is enough nostalgia to make a grown man cry and I am one ;_;

Man, growing up watching cartoons and anime in the 1990s was amazing. Those were the legendary times. The best times for television and cartoons. This was before the Narutards began to come along around 2005-2007 years. Toonami, Dragon Ball, Pokemon, Sailor Moon, Gundam Wing 00, G Gundam, Tenchi Muyo, Rurouni Kenshin, Ronin Warriors, Digimon, Fox Kids, all the Nickelodeon and Disney shows, and the list goes on. I can't even describe it. Being a 1990s kid was the best. Besides the parts where I was bullied. Anime, playing outside, and playing Star Fox and Goldeneye 007 on Nintendo 64 were the only good memories I had. I still remember the first time Trunks turned Super Saiyan against Frieza and his "Destruction" theme was playing. I was eating ramen noodles. I remember back when I used to have "friends" and I went to see the first two Pokemon films in theatres. I remember Pikachu crying on the big screen and slapping. I think those were the first cartoon and anime films I saw in a theatre. I have not had "friends" since elementary and 6th grade. I don't trust anyone.
Since then, the best thing I have done is work at Pixar as an animation intern in Summer 2019. San Francisco Bay Area was the most beautiful place I had been to. When 2008 came, I have been going tons of health problems. Kids today have no idea how amazing it was in the 1990s and around 2000. Today, kids are too busy on apps like TikToxic, sn*pch*t, and "IG." Simp boys are supporting girls on places like OnlySimps. RUclips is terrible now compared to when it first released in 2005. I was in 2005 back then. Before youtube was ebaumsworld, newgrounds, and that crazy gore website. Everything has literally gone downhill. My sister's son is in elementary and he is into Dragon Ball like I was as a kid. I don't know if he picked it up from me and my videos, or if it was from Dragon Ball Super. Last holiday in 2022, I brought my Dragon Ball Super Broly film in the living room so he could see it. He had never heard of Broly before. Broly and Vegeta are favorite characters. During the movie, when Broly first started fighting, he began searching Broly on his phone nonstop and he was completely ignoring the film. He was not focused on that amazing action at all. It was annoying me so much. Everyone is so locked into these smart phones. It is crazy.
In the 1990s, kids came back from school, turned on the TV, and watched Toonami cartoons and anime from 2:30 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Monday through Friday. There was no looking at tiny screen in your hand. If you missed it, you missed it. In fact, it wasn't until high school years that kids started to search for anime episodes online. Nowadays, everyone is in such a rush to see the sub Japanese versions in order to get views for the reaction videos. Kids in the 1990s did not grow up with Japanese sub versions unless they lived in Japan. As far as I knew.
Damn the nostalgia of all this. Toonami is and always will be the goat of introducing anime to me.
i never noticed the "one liners" for every show, now it multiplies the nostalgia effect lol
Good god in heaven. Those were the days and thank god I can feel this nostalgia~~
