Hi Dozy, I've recently fallen back in love with taking the time to journal & even back to commonplacing! I used to commonplace when I was younger but I didn't know there was a name for it, or that it even existed going so far back. Watching your videos make me so happy, relaxed, and inspired to journal & explore different styles & systems! I'm so excited to get back it into this year & I'm even more excited to see what videos you'll come out with! 🤎

Awww, thank you so much for such a lovely comment! I'm happy to hear that, and I hope it brings you as much joy as it did when you were younger 🤎🤎🧸

I have to say, your taste is impeccable! 😂 love everything you spoke about!! I really hope you do more videos like this, I know it was a little out of your comfort zone, but it was so lovely!
So true about finding the type of art you love! I’m the same, I love the romantic era. I also love “the veiled virgin” by Giovanni Strazza. I’m not Christian at all but the craftsmanship on it is incredible. It’s worth a google image, just to see how the marble looks transparent like a veil! Very clever! Made me take a second to appreciate a new art form!

Those Field Notes truly are beautiful! And I love your commonplace book! I’m starting one this year in a passport tn and I’m so excited 🤩
Also fun fact, my manager is a ghost writer for bob’s burgers and apparently wrote the birding episode inspired by me cause I love birding haha

I haven’t finished the video, yet, but I had to pause and comment about your love of Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog (I think I got the title right). Look into the concept of the sublime, and it’ll help you understand better the impact that particular painting has on you. It may also help you find other art you love by maybe searching artworks that convey the sublime. It’s a fascinating topic that I write about often in and out of academic settings. That particular painting is often used as an example of provoking the feeling of the sublime.

Thank you, Kas! Yes! I studied the Sublime in terms of literature, but I never felt it in art before 🤎 It's sad that Friedrich's art became co-opted by n@z!s after his death. It's completely against his ethos!

What you said about slow reading really resonates with me. I am a really fast reader and have to activly focus and slow down. Sometimes I even notice that I only read the dialogue.I mean there are books I've read 5+ times and always I discover a line that I don't remember ever reading.
I have really paid attention that this month and I've enjoyed reading more than I have in a long time ❤
I love how all of your videos make me think. Happy new year to you 🎉

I really enjoyed this! As I’ve mentioned on Instagram, I’ve been thinking of doing something similar in one of my videos. You didn’t come off as pretentious at all-you came off as someone wanting to share their joys with others. Oh! It was so interesting seeing those Field Notes, as I am from the Midwest, so I see those views often! The scent isn’t so glorious and neither is driving on the same roads as some huge tractors (they can be so terrifying up close!), but the views of the fields can be so gorgeous. I need to get that Sylvia Plath book, though. I love reading her stuff and feel like I relate to so much of what she said. I even named my daughter after her, as I find Sylvia to be a beautiful name. Anyway, if you can’t tell, I loved this video so much and can’t wait for more! Take care!

Thank you so much Kas! I genuinely love literature so much (hence why I studied it 🤭) so I really didn't want to come across as pretentious! I'm glad you enjoyed this type of video, I would love to see you do one!
