Looking forward to watching! Have a blast🤗
Thank you!
There’s two kinds of van life channels. The sexy young couple where everything is overdramatised and staged. And then there’s the ones like yours that I greatly prefer. Natural as it happens van life.
So true!! I'm not into the soap opera part of what some of these other people do... I really like the real lifers ! Ian is a real lifer!!❤️
-Silicone ear buds! Comfy and washable. Great for walmart sleeps.
-Protein Plus from walmart makes coffee flavored (only 1 g of sugar) protein shakes. It makes me wildly awake and it is good for you. Tastes like coffee.
I think I'm going through a coffee withdrawals actually 🤣
@@IanODonnell yes- i heard you say that. I was trying to suggest protein instead bc when you drink protein it helps stop that withdrawal bc it is a natural, healthier energy. That is why i suggested coffee flavored protein. You get the healthy stuff but also get the taste of coffee. Best of both worlds. Helped me a lot. Safe travels!
Congratulations congratulations sooo excited you are on your inaugural start to van life camping. Loving the music in the video and great pics, etc. As you figure out where you want stuff as you need it.. go easy on yourself and enjoy where you are.. much much progress.. stay safe and look forward to more posts.. God bless you.. 💕🎶✌️
Thank you, I've already got to meet some other people on the road doing the same thing. It's kind of cool how you just happened to find other boondockers.
Aannd it's on! Congrats ! Living the dream!!
We'll see how it goes hahaha
looks like fun
Ahh, the potato chip crunch outro just as good as the hand outro 😂😂
I was pretty proud of that one 😂
Most important thing in desert driving is bring water. Water to drink, help stranded motorists, pour over yourself for cooling and theoretically for radiator (although never pour cool water in hot radiator or you will crack your block) Monitor engine temp while driving and if overheating (almost guaranteed if climbing mountain with AC on) , turn off ac. If overheating without AC, turn on heater. Cools engine. Better to be moving hot than stranded hot.
I've been really fortunate. Had a lot of cloud cover while I was in the desert. Took me at a nice 60 70° range. And my engine temperature stayed consistent and where it should be.
I try not to run my AC all the time, but I'll definitely keep that in mind when going up mountains! Thank you
Good vid. Starting out you’ll have some odd feelings to get used too. One is the uncomfortable sense that you should always be on the move. Also, caring what others around you think of you. After a while you learn to relax and not care what others think. Music sounds good.
The adventure has started! Good for you!
Congratulations on the start of your adventure! Enjoy yourself and be safe.
You did a fantastic job building your van!
very good video..very relaxing tone....
I love your traveling music. I watch your videos on my television. So I wanted to comment here to let you know I enjoy them. Very inspirational. I'm shopping for me a Dodge Caravan or Chrysler Pacifica.
On the big screen 🤣 good luck with your van shopping. That's honestly the hardest part hahahaha. I think the Grand Caravan is an excellent choice. It's very functional and there's lots of options when shopping for one!
I know what you mean about Atlanta. I went through there once. All lanes were full, everyone was racing along, and some guy in the far left lane cuts all the way across to the far right lane . How nobody crashed is beyond me. I Hate going through big cities! I’m 66 and I’ll be getting myself a van in about a year. Hey , happy travels!
Good old atlanta. I hope you enjoy your van travels! Good luck with your build if you're planning on doing it yourself!!
Have great time, jitters fade
I just bought a Dodge caravan to convert and am happy to have found you. Happy trails!
I just bought a Volkswagen routan 2009 which is really a Dodge caravan anyway with the Volkswagen label on it lol that's a good thing though because most of the parts will be Chrysler cheap and not Volkswagen expensive
can we get an update?
Enjoy it all. And its fun to see you adventures
You're good at putting videos together it's great to see you get out on your first one buddy you be safe and enjoy yourself
Thank you, I'm sure I'll be learning lots more about editing too during this trip hahaha.
Nice video 😊
Chef here. Ian I enjoy your videos and your authenticity. I admit that I cringe completely at the food your eating though. I mean to say this in a constructive manner, but your food quality does not need to suffer because you are traveling, even with a tight budget. The canned soups and chicken in a bag kinds of processed foods that seem conveinient but I know you are not enjoying them. I suggest you grab a $30 butane stove from walmart, a small pot, and a small frying pan. Those two items will allow you to cook quick lunches when you stop. Nice cheap hot meals will allow you to enjoy your travels that much more. I'm happy to throw quick budget recipes at ya. We're about the same age I believe and I think I saw you eating a Pb&J and apple sauce and my reaction was " OMG he's eating like an 8 year old! Poor guy is going to get burnt out with kind of consistent eating " Although those things can be tasty and enjoyable on occasion, eating all this convienince processed food will bum you out in the long run. ALSO, grab a Bialetti Mocha pot to make stovetop coffee. It takes the same amount of time as a standard electric home coffee maker. There's no reason to sacrifice coffee in van life!
nice thanks for sharing but dude no coffee and traffic jam id be screaming my head of anyway safe travels my friendf
I just drove from mi to ms and was just in Jackson did a few vids on it.
Hahaha, I just missed you!! I'm in west Texas now. Happy travels!
So fun to see you start your journey! I always look forward to your videos. You're so down to earth and natural in the front of the camera. Good luck and safe travels to you, Ian!
Thank you!! I'm glad people are enjoying the videos!!
That's cool that you're on your way. I think I've been to all those places. Thanks for taking us along!
Thanks for keeping up with the videos!!
Oh, my gosh, I cannot stand driving through Atlanta! And that was back in the day. I was a truck driver for a little while. I was afraid I was going to kill someone daily, so I quit. Good thing! LOL Look forward to the next one. Should have left the chicken off the samich.
Atlanta has always been bad hahaha
If you make out indiana way. You should come out on a river gold adventure 💪👍
I recognize this music...Lol! Your Adventure begins! The van looks Great👍🏾! Looking forward to seeing your adventures!
Glad your sandwich turned out well. 🙂
Congratulations on beginning your mighty adventure Ian! Enjoy the mountains. I always check my weather app every morning before departing which helps me “fly around the clouds!” [Tom Petty lyric from “Learning to Fly”] 🎶🚐
Nice video! Thanks for sharing!!
Hello oh yes we did really enjoy your video. Oh petrol is so expensive here in Aussie $1.45 per litre. We really enjoyed your video oh and please be careful using that knife! Love and hugs young man. From your Aussie nomad friends ❤️🤗
Looking forward to seeing your adventures. Have fun!
Congratulations on your 1st Across Country Road trip in your Newly designed Minivan. I look forward to more of this adventure.

I'm so envious of you!
Safe travels!
✌☺
Atlanta- we all know!
🤣🤣🤣
Glad you're getting out on your trip go online look for a BLM land free camping up to 14 days free champion site.com also they got all sorts of places you could camp good luck on your adventure I will be watching
No kidding about crappy traffic in ATL and Dallas! I’ve seen the gas price change on those signs too and it turned out it was just the difference between paying cash and using a credit card. Anyway, stay safe have fun and I’ll be watching 😊
Do you have any fuel price apps in the states? Here in Australia we have one that shows all the fuel stations and the price of fuel per type like diesel gas etc. You can see them as icons on a map see you can see whether it’s worth going a bit further for a cheaper price. You can plan your fuel stops ahead of time to have your fuel work out a lot cheaper over a long journey. The prices are updated frequently
I think that's a great suggestion! I do think there's some here now that you mention it and we monitor Speedway via their app on our trips for points too. Plus they have the BEST pizza - inexpensive too ($5 for a whole pepperoni)! Their gas pricing is almost always right to the penny from the app listings so we've done well navigating with them even before starting vanlife.
Glad to see you're off on the great adventure Ian! Stay safe and enjoy the journey! Looking forward to seeing those amazing shots =)
I use GasBuddy for cheaper gas prices. I’m in the US. I have fam in Texas. We stopped at speedway and loves most of the way there and back last year.
@@Seraphsody that’s it! I couldn’t remember the name - Gas Buddy! Thanks for sharing that!
Gas Buddy also helped when hurricane shut down Florida. It has time stamp that tells you how long ago it was open......
Cracker Barrel has camper parking too . Let us know how the Jackery is working out . ✌🏻
So far so good with the Jakery. It just requires a lot of driving to charge hahaha
Ian O'Donnell does your jackery recharge faster if plugged into your inverter outlet vs the 12 volt port ?
@@tombolin7168 yes it does, but I've just been running it off the 12 volt plug. I feel like it stresses the alternator less. I'm sure that's a small thing, but I'm driving so much it works itself out even if it charges slower 😂
Ian O'Donnell maybe throw a 100 watt solar panel on the roof in the future . That should help out . Rv Tito diy channel has some good practical videos up . Is a nice person to talk to as well.

Yes, but how do you feel about driving through Atlanta. You weren't very clear on that.😂
Hahahaha. I'll say it again. I hate it 😂😂
Great start... well a good start anyways... Did i miss the meaning of the flag?
Hey ian, I have watched your videos and you have done a amazing job. I plan on taking a trip from Washington to Houston. Do you have sights you recommend?
What states will you be going through?
@@IanODonnell I will be going down through Idaho, Utah. Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. Thank you for responding.
Good job in wearing a mask when you should. That indicates empathy, concern, and respect for the health of others.
I don't want to make anyone else comfortable. I know I had some family members that were worried about it. So I imagine there's plenty of other people like that.
Dude if you come to California it's $4 a gallon so stay in the cheap Zone
Eat more, hair cut, push ups?
"Gas has been $1.70 for the past 2 or 3 years or so"... 🥲🥲🥲 I wish
Yeah…. And Look were we are now 😂🥲😭
