    Hi Maddie, I loved your video as I am 1973 graduate of UNT (Music) who spent Freshman year in Bruce Hall. That is fifty years ago! Bruce is still, remarkably the same! Things that have changed: co-ed dorm now, air-conditioned, cement floors in rooms look like changed to hardwoods, new beds that loft, practice rooms in basement added. Cafeteria, lobby and room lay-outs very much UNCHANGED. Thanks for providing me with a nostolgic tour and some very happy memories!

    We called it NTSU in fall of 1982, I'm now 59 years old. I was a total jazzer in the Lab bands.I got kicked out of Bruce Hall in 1982, for playing my Selmer alto saxophone at 11pm in the practice rooms with door open. We never had AC, we had those big square window fans. We never had phone lines, we used the pay phones in the lobby, The cafeteria had the greatest food! All my friends lived in Bruce, when I got thrown out, they sent me to Kendal hall, The home of all these international students from Saudi Arabia who all chain smoked in the lobby, the smoke was disgusting! then later I moved off campus, to university apartments, and I threw wild kegger parties, and I got a job at Texas country KDNT 1440 AM radio. I would play my sax over the radio!!!!

    A wing, yes? I was on the B wing (B213) in 1979. Looking out your window, I can see my room directly across from yours! The heater/air conditioner is a huuuge upgrade. Summers were BRUTAL before they were installed. Thanks for the trip "home".

    This tour triggered major flashbacks. My room had this same layout. First day in Bruce there was a food fight in the cafeteria (Animal House had just been released) and I wondered what the hell I had gotten myself into. Wolfed down lunch and quickly exited the cafeteria unscathed only to be accosted by a couple of guitar players who noticed I was carrying a banjo (kind of rare back then). Went to their room, listened to some Dave Grisman Quintet records and then started jamming with them. In walked a player with an upright bass and another with a mandolin. A crowd gathered at the dorm room door. No one complained even though it wasn’t official practice hours. Bruce was a magical place. Thanks for the video. Nicely done. Best wishes for your success in the music biz.

    Hey Maddie... thanks so much for the very detailed video! We just did the housing tour this past Saturday and looked at newest to oldest dorms and my soon to be freshman chose Bruce! You have given us so many great ideas! I was actually a student there, at Clark Hall, in 1981.... a lot has changed but so much is still the same.

      I’m so glad the video was helpful! I will say Covid has really affected college for me this year. There has been no in person club gatherings and basically the only events have been limited capacity sporting events. I haven’t met a lot of people here either and I’ve only had one in person class all year. But the good news in UNT is planning on having more extensive in person classes next year, and hopefully that means more social events too!

    • @maddied157
      @maddied157  3 года назад +3

      Sadly, I have already left for the year. But I can tell you they are communal bathrooms which you share with everyone in your hallway. There are five toilet stalls and five shower stalls, including one big stall of each for handicap persons. The shower heads usually vary in water pressure depending on which shower you use, and the big shower stall has a hand held shower head if you prefer that. There’s also two sinks and a huge wall mirror too. The door to the bathroom requires a code to get in for privacy as well. They clean the bathrooms every week day, so there will be a specified hour that you can’t use that bathroom while they clean it. However there is a bathroom up at the front that is always open to use. Hopefully that helps you get an idea of what the bathrooms are like. Let me know if you have any other questions :)

    MY DAUGHTER WILL BE GOING THERE AND I WAS WONDERING HOW MANY FLOORS DOES BRUCE HALL HAVE?

    • @maddied157
      @maddied157  2 года назад

      I can’t remember if it’s 3 or 4 floors. The 1st floor is technically the “basement,” but you can access it from the back entrance. That’s where the music practice rooms are too. Since Bruce is on a slope, the floor which the main entrance is located at is the 2nd floor (which is the floor I stayed on). There is also no elevator; it’s all stairs.

    • @maddied157
      @maddied157  3 года назад

      This is C209. It’s the hall closest to the lobby, and my room was the last one on the left side (all the way down right next to the stairs). Our hallway on 2nd floor is technically a ground floor too, since Bruce is build on an incline, so no other rooms were below us. Hope this helps!
