Set high up on a hill on a rural estate east of the Brasília city centre, this small family retreat designed by Matheus Carvalho from Coplanar Arquitetura draws inspiration from traditional Brazilian farmhouses. Originally dark and disconnected from the outside world, Carvalho opened up the house bringing in natural light and airflow. Adding a series of indoor/outdoor courtyards and creating an interconnected central social core that combines the kitchen, living room and a newly extended porch. Striking accents painted in the shade Bleu de France frame the white interior, minimally decorated with rustic wooden shades of traditional and locally sourced furniture. Throughout the home, nature and traditional design are masterfully integrated into a contemporary design that provides a sense of togetherness.

As a Brazilian and Brasiliense (from Brasília) myself, I love the place, the landscape, the rustic Brazilian touches and farm house style. However, I’d add some comfort with upholstery, soft places to sit onto after a hard day of work or during a weekend of laziness. Some touches of coziness.

Só achei o fogão muito pequeno, já que os avós irão receber os netos, e cozinhar para mais de duas pessoas naquele fogãozinho alí...
Talvez se ele tivesse colocado a cozinha fora (claro que de alguma forma sem ser prejudicada pelo vento), perto da churrasqueira. Tanto depois de cozinhar a casa, que é pequena e não tem divisórias entre cozinha e sala, não deixaria depois odor residual.

Finally some design with traditionnal features inside and outside. Noble materials, colors, actual warmth and soul. I would totally live in here. It's even giving me some strong ideas on how to build my own small/tiny house in the future...

The house itself is beautiful and I love the addition of the small patios.
However, I would prefer more cozy seating in the living area and more storage in the kitchen and main bedroom.
I think it's mostly not as needed given that it is more of a retreat than an actual home for the owners and maybe they needed some space inside so that they could put the table indoors if the weather isn't great.
I agree. I love the overall aesthetic of simplicity, however, I feel the kitchen and furnishings could be more generous in comfort, especially if considering more long-term use in retirement.
That's fixable. This is what they could afford to have right now. The house itself is very well done.

@@lucianaseleme9078 I don't remember seeing a dresser or closet in the main bedroom. And I kinda get the feeling that they entertain people in the home and that kitchen doesn't seem to have a lot of room for basics like dishes.
This is a charming retreat from the city and I love the blending between the indoor/outdoor spaces. With that said, it was stated the main function of this home is to spend time and make memories with the family. There is no warmth or coziness in the main living area. No kitchen cabinets for storage, no place to prepare meals, no indoor dining if the weather becomes inclement and no closets in the bedrooms for clothes. It didn’t seem at all functional to me.

Very clean and fresh....I like ....but I could maybe have a more softer relaxing area.....soft sofa... seating it's very Ridgid.. I love the colours. And simplicity of outdoor space ...no TV makes it easy to switch off from the world...a good book with a great coffee ..would make it .....
Brazil has a lot of small flats to show too. Waiting to see more from Brazil ❤

I like it…front porch is amazing! If it was mine I would definitely add more comfortable seating and few touches to make it more cosy. Also make kitchen more functional with more storage, blue shelves above the blue fridge would be fab. I’ve often arrived at beautiful looking rental and found there is nowhere to unpack groceries.
I love the layout of the house - it cleverly thought out. However the furnishing is quite baren and not very cosy

Sooo good to see a Brazilian home on this channel! Been watching you guys for years... Usually Brazilian architecture channels either focus on outlandishly expensive houses or apt renovations. Seeing something simple, small and cozy is so lovely and refreshing. I especially appreciate the lack of built-in furniture, it's much more practical, sustainable, flexible and realistic (at least to me). All the love from Pernambuco, Brazil.
EDIT: The only thing I would add is some kind of screen protection against bugs/mosquitoes... At least in my region, this is a real problem. It may not be very aesthetic, but it is a practical necessity.

A brazilian home at last! A bit cenographic though, in the countryside you'd probably need a better equiped kitchen and a confy couch. Loved it anyway, brazilian architecture is groundbreaking!

Yes, the old houses that were built before electricity etc. were designed with nature in mind, working with and not against nature. I love discovering ingenious design in old buildings, like the kitchen built at the back of the house remaining the coolest room in the house, whereas the living room is in the lightest warmest part of the house with doors or windows placed where the breeze travels through. The old builders were so clever and skilled, building with exquisite quality & consideration in mind, many of us don't know a fraction of the secrets to building that they knew
❤❤❤Just looking at the house I feel like I am vacationing there. Such a cheerful looking house. The courtyards and patio with brick work are brilliant as well as relaxing , letting in light and air yet providing privacy. The large windows, the outdoor shower, the overall rustic yet elegant style and unique furniture take this beautiful home to another level.
The white and the blue remind me of Paraty. Hope I can visit Brazil again soon.
Finally, a Brazilian project is featured in this channel. Happy for the representation. I am originally from the state where this farm is located. Nice to see the Brazilian colonial style represented. P.s.: Kitchen is a bit unrealistic for Brazilian standards though.😅

Well... this is how most people in the world live. You get hot when it's hot, you feel cold when it's cold, and life goes on. Right now temperatures in this area have been fairly low at night (for Brazilian standards). You put more blankets on your bed and hope for the best.

This idea of design is what I want to be applied in the future when I build my own house. Maximizing natural light, air flow, and social area in the front of the house, also outdoor shower, this is truly a dream house to live in a village in a tropical country.

we have to include nature more in our lives and everyday lifesystems. we can't go on as before. because nature offers everything for a good and pleasant life. therefore we should take care of it and practice being humble. for me, this house in this beautiful landscape fulfills exactly the preconditions for this. congratulations for this beautiful job!
