I remember Mr. Trebek when I first saw him as host of the NBC game show "The Wizard OF Odds" WAY back in the day! He was the last of the great ones and the last remaining veteran game show who brought JEOPARDY back to life and made it into the longest-running resurrection of a classic game show. He was to JEOPARDY what Bob Barker was to: The Price Is Right: "SOLID GOLD CLASSICS WITH CLASS!!!! Rest in peace, Mr. Trebek, you will be missed and loved eternally.
This show seemed to be the most boring dull format. A sloppily organized hogepodge of Survey Questions, and a chimera of a bonus game that combined parts of LMAD, TPIR,B&E bonus rounds and Concentration. Presentation wise It looked like a local old school bingo format. Alex hosting and the familar Chuck Barris music made the show palatable. The Barry Enright-Bill Cullen pilot of the same name was a better concept. Glad Alex didnt skip a beat on the way to Jeopardy! Great tribute in Alexs honor Wink and Co.
The credits on this pilot are quite interesting. I notice it credits Mark Richards as a producer and Dick Liberatore as director; Dick Liberatore is the name future Starcade host Mark Richards used in the 70s on shows such as the pilot Pass or Play (which I believe Wink has posted in the past.) I have to assume that it's the same Mark Richards here, splitting duties under different names. The music had me thinking as soon as the show started this was going to be a Chuck Barris pilot. So many have put the weight of the loss of Alex in much better words than I can. All I can add is that Alex was one of the people who had been around so long you just got used to him as if he would be around forever, and that's not something that happens. Never let your loved ones forget that you care about them, it's never guaranteed you will get another chance.
My mother attended two tapings of "The Wizard Of Odds". The first time with a friend and a second time with my father. Also, a former neighbor of mine was a contestant on "High Rollers" during the first month of its run in July 1974. She won at least one game and some nice prizes.
Bad game, but the late great Alex Trebek did a very nice job hosting considering what he had to work with here. This was from 1982, so I’m guessing it was shot between the two runs of Battlestars.
We've seen a lot of world go by, and through it all, Alex has wasted nary a second educating, entertaining *and* informing us about everything within it, right down to the littlest-known fact. (And having watched _Jeopardy!_ a lot as a kid, I should know.) A: This phrase, spoken in Alex's native tongue, best expresses my love for this iconic superstar. Q: What is "Au revoir, mon ami-et merci mille fois pour tout ce que vous faites"?
I . . . think they only made French an official language in Quebec; Alex was born in Sudbury, Ontario. ...Great, now you got me shedding more mourning tears doing that bit of research. x.x
Thanks for sharing this, Wink, and my condolences. The front game worked better than Second Guessers. The bonus was a little like Say When!! even the prize values, which were kind of pathetic at this point. It was a little like the Gambit Board, too, picking numbers with the risk of losing everything.
To Wink-my heart goes out to you. Alex was your friend and you too had a lot of good times together-I'll never forgot your 1985 press photo with him and Pat Sajak:)
We will truly miss you Alex!!! You were a great man!!! With that said, not even Alex could save this pilot! Created an Produced by his former Jeopardy! practice game host Mark Richards, who also created the "Oregon Lottery's Money Game". Check his "Mark Richards" RUclips page for more info.
When I first heard the theme song, I thought this was a Chuck Barris production because that music was used whenever they were through with a surprise package on "The New Treasure Hunt," a Chuck Barris Production. I was a little confused during the main game because Alex Trebek made it clear as to how to get to $1,000 first before the other couple but because of the edits, it came out sort of incorrect; not making sense. Oh, well.
On YT, there is a July 4, 1975 episode from its first run with Ruta Lee, and from the second run, a December 1979 episode (the one where he rolls snake eyes after he's introduced) and two (maybe a couple more) from March 1980.
Did you ever get to know Alex Trebek, Wink? Everyone says there was nobody like him. He seemed like such a wonderful guy who loved Jeopardy and his beautiful wife Jeanne and their children. If I may ask, what will you remember most about the man, the myth, the legend that is Alex Trebek?
I wish Chuck Barris would've sold that show and if Geoff Edwards renewed a 2nd Season of The 1981 revival of Treasure Hunt it will be a Perfect Pairing.
Yikes, what a boring game. This appears to be Mark Richards trying to sell a game. He was also listed as director under his real name. Thank goodness this didn’t sell, or Trebek may have never hosted Jeopardy and perhaps not had the impact he had.

You will be missed, Alex. A gentleman and a class act.
Never a good sign that they are seemingly skipping parts in the pilot. Alex is the only thing that makes this even watchable. RIP
Alex is on point with his duties as host here, but even he couldn’t save this turkey of a concept. Woah-woah 😕

I noticed that too! Dick Liberatore is his real name, Mark Richards just a stage name.
Rest in piece Alex Trebek you will be missed. (1940-2020)
Peace.
We Love you

wrong dates and you don't have a marker so you lose.
@@rmknicks Trebek was born in 1940 and died November 2020.
So glad Alex didn't get stuck hosting this. They didn't even say goodbye to the other team!
Thanks, Wink! I am sure you have many stories about Alex! he will be greatly missed!
Alex Trebek was the greatest game show host.
Hope to see more vintage Alex trebek content on your channel soon.

R.I.P Mr Alex Trebek. I've enjoyed watching u during my childhood 2 now. #cancersucks
Interesting pilot. RIP Alex Trebek

The win cue music at 7:00 was also used on some game show segments that Mark did on local TV stations over the years.

So sad Alex Trebek passed away. RIP.
9:21 - 9:22 To the guy who told them to "bet it all," "It's not YOUR money!"
So sorry for your loss, Wink. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Alex's family.
This is the Alex Trebek pilot episode of the American TV game show "Decisons, Decisions".

Any Alex Trebek episodes of High Rollers?

That’s way before or after Alex did “High Rollers” to “Double Dare” surely he will be missed forever.
Wizard came out the year before High Rollers
@@PREGO1966 You got that one correct. I missed him forever.
Was this a Chuck Barris show cause the used the COP OUT theme
That theme music threw me for a loop!
Alex Trebek and Chuck Barris seemed like an unlikely pairing to put it mildly.
😩😢😭 so very sad RIP

That bonus board looks like it was made in a mixmaster.
RIP Alex Trebek🌹🌹🌹🙏🙏🙏
The announcer would later hit the #Jackpot !!! On Global and USA Network
Who produced this pilot?
Oof. The world is so lucky Alex found "Jeopardy!"
Rest in peace Alex.
"Welcome..." "...once again..."??...for the pilot episode??
Speaking of rare Trebek pilots, I'd love to see his pilot of Starcade if you have that anywhere in the vault.
Do you know if there are any fall tapes of his first game show Ods? If so, now would be the time to release them.
Long ago I heard that GSN possessed a single episode of The Wizard of Odds, but it has never been aired by them.
@@illustriousrocket4476 I haven’t watched Game Show Network in years. Are they still ass cancer?
Is there any chance of obtaining "The Wizard Of Odds" and the pilot of STARCADE with Alex as host?
Alex was solid, the game was not. I assume the announcer was a San Diego local (and he was horrible)?
16:45 RIP Alex Trebek
Well, At Least You Had A Good Run, and A good amount of game shows. Rest In Peace, Alex. Jeopardy would've been no more without you.
I kind of remember "The Wizard of Odds" but I remember "High Rollers". RIP Alex
Taped in San Diego. That's unusual.
Probably less expensive. Sort of like how Broadway shows preview in Philadelphia, Boston, or such.
Was this supposed to be ABC
is this a Chuck Barris show?
It appears to be Mark Richards (Starcade) trying to sell a show.
I wish Chuck Barris would've sold that show and if Geoff Edwards renewed a 2nd Season of The 1981 revival of Treasure Hunt it will be a Perfect Pairing.
If Chuck Barris sold what show?
Barris didn't have anything to with any of the game shows named "Decisions Decisions",
definitely not this one.
I thought this was a Barris show too because the theme to "Decisions, Decisions" is occasional commercial bumper music to the 1981 Treasure Hunt.
Is this the same as Cullen's version?
Not even close, Vinnie.
This was ultimately a local game show in San Diego
created (or co-created) and later to be hosted by Mark Richards.
Cullen's version was far better than this, despite it not selling either.
Yikes, what a boring game. This appears to be Mark Richards trying to sell a game. He was also listed as director under his real name.
Thank goodness this didn’t sell, or Trebek may have never hosted Jeopardy and perhaps not had the impact he had.
I don't think this would've lasted long enough to interfere with him hosting Jeopardy! Fortunately, we'll never know.
RIP Alex Trebek!
