Start with the correct image of how to take the violin, how it feels in your hand, in the position under the chin. Then proceed to the violin. With the violin in hands: 1. Always start with the open strings. 1a. For the very beginners, start on A or D string, in the middle of the bow, détaché. Then move to the tip and to the frog. Do a pre-set number of bows on each of the 4 strings. If you already can play whole bows, proceed to play with the whole bows. 1b. If you are ready, do some string crossings: D-A; A-E; G-D. Combine the number of strokes on various strings. 2. For Very beginners, play your tune/song/small piece (or small scale) using pizzicato (without the bow) 3. Add the bow and play the same selection with the bow. Now you need to coordinate everything. Hope this helps P.S. I assume you are one of my subscribers?
Thanks, I'll try this to see if it reduces pain and tension in my left arm after playing for a while, although that might be due to wrist or hand tension too.
Great video, thank you! Have you ever worked with a violinist who had surgery on their left side and as a result struggled with a lot of tension in the left shoulder? Do you have any further advice in terms of exercises they could do or shoulder or chin rests they could try?
I have not worked with anyone who had surgeries on the left side... I would suggest to ask a good physical therapist (bringing the violin along to the session). The shoulder-rest and the chin-rest must be a good fit to each other (and the person).
For some reason i can't reach most of the tip of my bow when i'm playing, it starts hurting my arm. Am i holding the bow wrong or is the problem with my arm muscles 😔
I agree with you concerning the lack of sense in wearing a mask. As it unfortunately has been the case in this video I just ignore it and carry on listening to this woman's clever advices while hoping that people never do this to each other ever again..
This is the absolute KEY ESSENCE, if you want to play violin
The students lucky enough to be taught by you are truly blessed!

В студенческие годы я работал в Цирковом училище в Москве ( ГУЦЭИ) концертмейстером на пантомиме у Ильи Рутберга. Это нечто похожее)

Love your "Violin Basics" videos. I am learning to play the violin at home. Could you recommend an effective daily practice routine for beginners?

It is really impossible to tell without seeing you. But if your arm is not long, it is very possible that you should not go all the way to the tip.

Seriously youre wearing masks, guess I’m not looking at your site anymore🥴
this was part of the lesson at UNT, therefore Pr.Bushkova has to abide to the rules of the institution.
Whats wrong with her wearing a mask? She's trying to be cautious
I’m looking at her site because she takes care of herself and students wearing mask!
I have to abide by the rules of my institution. If the mask on my face matters more than the content I provide - it is too bad :))
