It's completely natural to find ourselves attached to someone we've met in our lives. However, when love turns to attachment, it can lead to suffering. You deserve happiness and peace, and that starts with letting go, especially since this person has expressed his perspective. Otherwise, our attachment to the past may affect our present well-being and happiness.
From another standpoint, it is often the love for ourselves that we seek to satiate through our attachments. When we discover our true selves, we will realize that we have all that we need, and all attachments will wither away. Wishing you all the best.🙏
