This checks all the right boxes for me. Well behaved on most papers. Readable. No fancy (read "makes it unusable for a lot of paper") "special properties." Not sure it's that different from, say, other gray leaning black inks (how different from, say, Parker Quink black is it, really?) but definitely something I'd consider. Thanks for sharing your opinion on this ink, James! God bless, and hope you have a blessed week!
Birmingham Pen Company is my fav ink maker. John and Nick do incredible work and they have unbeatable customer support. Have over 60 bottles of their inks :).
Interesting ink. I'll have to check them out. With the recent demise of a bottle of Diamine Blue Velvet I am in the market. No worries, though, I didn't spill the ink. It escaped by stealth, through the nibs of pens. On a side note, I watch your videos and then I want to write. Your inspiration is contagious.
Fine review, James of what looks like a good charcoal gray-black ink. I do not yet have any Birmingham inks. Indeed, I've had a bottle of Pilot Iroshizuku Take-sumi for I think four years that must be miraculously replenishing itself. Take-sumi is "bamboo charcoal", as I recall. Have you compared the two inks? Blessings!
What? They have recipes? I mixed up some colors I wanted from some ink colors I have that I really don't care for & wrote down the recipes. I thought it was just me.
Yes, if you go to the inks on their website, scroll down to recipes and they'll show you what existing inks make that color. Great idea, I wish all the ink-makers did this.
If you like gray, I think this is a good one, especially with the water resistance. It's not for me since I have so many other colors I can use. I also want something to stand out against my black & white copies at work. Please keep up the chromotography. I like seeing what it takes to mix each color.
Hate it when my inks get wet. No problems, here. Just wet climate. Greys intrigue me. I have several and always looking for the next one. Limited your exposure to those shady people.

Reminds me of drawing with "vine charcoal", a somewhat pale black color.

They have the best inks. They are gorgeous and behave so well in all my pens.
Thanks. I love their ink. My favorite so far is Tesla Coil.
I checked their site and they have some nice colors! They have some on sale too...
Unfortunately they don't ship worldwide...
Nice review. I live their inks. They are a local company for me and never had a bad experience with them. Thanks for reviewing a great local company ❤
Thanks for a wonderful review, as always. Great ink, great company. Tell me, which one of their inks is a true black?

I haven’t, but I’d noticed they are similar. I have the Iroshizuku Yama-guru, which is similar to BPC’s Burnt Walnut.
I enjoy all of my Birmingham inks as well they are quite good inks. I would like to see your review the Birmingham pen, whenbdid you do that review?
I have the Birmingham atom ink set, so I can mix a copy of this ink with the recipe in their website. I’m definitely going to give it a try!

Lovely ink. Personally I would like a true black that performs like this ink. Does Birmingham ink make a true black?
Love the quote
