    Grest video demonstration, voice or not . DO you still have the Mercuery 41/2 years later? HAs it held up ok? They still sell these new.

      This kayak is so versatile and fun to paddle! It has held up very well. The plastic is rugged and forgiving. Only thing I've had to replace have been one of the ratchet straps. They cost $5. I over tightened and that flattened the teeth of the strap. Of course you have to make sure the skeg isn't clogged with a chunk of gravel, but it still deploys smooth from the cockpit. What are you waiting for???

      Hi, did you proof this kayak in open sea with waves?

    Hi! What's the median cruising speed with this thing? ) (upd: ~7.5kmh)

      @canoetour  3 года назад +1

      Good question. On flatwater I'd say 3 mph with sustained paddling. Thanks for viewing!

      @@canoetour Thanks! Should be faster for actve paddling. I've seen on strava some rides with this kayak and it was aroud 7.5km/h (even with my inflateable 90cm width, 450cm length boat I get an average of 5.5km/h over distances of around 20km. This thing is definitely at least +1.5-2 km/h faster)

      @@leonid998 Sounds like you have done your research! When I paddle this kayak, I'm usually on a tour, focusing on the natural sights. So I'll trust your estimation. Also, I'd suggest reaching out directly to the team at Point 65. I've worked with them in the past and know them to be extremely helpful and technically knowledgeable! Cheers!

      I was describing it but the audio didn't work out. Sorry about that. But in general... the interior outfitting of the Mercury doesn't have thigh braces. Instead there are a couple of pieces of foam padding. This makes it a little more difficult to roll. I press my kneecaps into the foam for a little "thigh" support. It's also a little bit larger of a cockpit than most sea kayaks, so having a large neoprene sprayskirt will help shed water and prevent the skirt from popping off. In the video, I'm using a nylon one that is tight. As far as the actual roll... stretch into the setup position, begin to sweep the paddle, watch the blade the whole way. When you begin to feel a bit of support on the blade then initiate a hip snap to rotate the boat back up. Thanks for viewing!

      @@canoetour thank you for the info. As you mentioned its a big cockpit etc would that be too big for a smaller woman under 5”? Thanks

    • @canoetour
      @canoetour  3 года назад

      @@kayakgirlcentralcoast3721 Not necessarily too big. Here's my take... this kayak is about 14 feet in length, so it's more or less a day touring kayak. Not really one that you'd take on a river or out into some rough seas. It's wide and stable enough for an intermediate paddler to take into some small waves in a choppy bay. It would ride nicely and not feel tippy. The eskimo roll in this video is really more of a party trick than an necessary skill to paddle the Mercury around. I really only see the roll as being necessary in whitewater, on the rivers. Or for more advanced sea kayaking...maybe. So I think you could fit into it and have fun paddling around. But to roll it would be more difficult for smaller legs.
