- Someone unleashed the power of engineering and added a new third portal to Portal 2! This is one of the best Portal 2 mods I have ever seen, and what a better time to release it than on the 10th anniversary of Portal 2's release. The third portal adds a fourth dimension to the puzzle game, making for extremely challenging and unique puzzles- and the best part is that it's free! This is part 1 of the Portal Reloaded playthrough.

About Portal Reloaded:
In this community made mod you play as test subject [4-5-0-9]. Awoken from stasis by an automated AI, you are expected to complete a very special test course. Within the depths of Aperture Science, secluded from the rest of the facility, lies a previously unknown and long forgotten testing track.
Expanding on the concepts of the main game, in Portal Reloaded you get a hold of the Triple Portal Device, allowing you to shoot three different portals. The familiar blue and orange portals, connecting two different places in space, and a third, green time portal, which connects two different timelines. Travelling between the present and a version of reality 20 years in the future, opens up a completely new way of puzzle solving.
Thinking in four dimensions is key to mastering 25 challenging puzzles laid out for you. This mod is targeted at portal veterans, who are familiar with the gameplay of the main series and want to expand their horizons.
Portal Reloaded is currently set to release on April 19th, 2021. Exactly 10 years after the official launch date of Portal 2. This mod is meant to be a celebration of all its achievements and an ambitious attempt to push its concepts even further. Have fun playing on April 19th!

So, Wheatley WASN'T BSing when he mentioned the three-portal device in The Part Where He Kills You. Granted it's still scummy that he used the promise of it to entice Chell to jump to her death, but eh...
what actually happens is that chell ended up there after jumping down, as there was another, fourth portal that brang her into an alternate timeline at which wheatley fixed the reactor core meltdown/chell put glados back into her original place instead of jumping down

Wait... bringing the future's box into the present should result in that box being spawned in the future again.
This time being aged a total of 40 years (20 + 20).
yeah, you should be able to continue getting more cubes until maybe the last cube in the cycle gets replaced by a pile of dust/cube pieces because it decayed.
That would be cool, progressively more decayed cubes!
I will watch this video as soon as I play it myself; I want to go into it blind! I hope you understand 😁

@@Blacksoul444 why would it tho if you’re bringing it to the present it should exist in the future it should always duplicate the cubes
@@Alphoricjust for the sake of the game
Honestly, I'm still confused as to how bringing a present cube into the future violates the laws of causality.
The cube can obviously time travel, since you can bring a future cube into the present. Bringing a present cube into the future simply means that there will be no future cube in the future, since the present cube wasn't left alone (starting in the present) for 20 years.
It *shouldn't* violate the laws of causality any more than bringing a future cube into the present, but for some reason I'm still unclear about it does.
I'm guessing that, by bringing the cube from the present to the future, it removes the object from the present that would provide the incentive for the player to act and bring it to the future in the first place.
For example: A=Present Cube B = Future cube
Case 1: Player moves B to the present to solve a puzzle, this causes a split in timelines(one in which the puzzle is solved using B, one where it isn't and P is stuck permanently), no problem.
Case 2: Player moves A to future to solve a puzzle, but, now there is no A for Present Player to have moved, due to Future Player taking it. meaning that, technically Future Player hasn't moved anything. But Future Player has already moved A and solved the puzzle, but there would technically be no A to move because by moving A, A stopped existing for Future and Present Player to move. I believe this would setup a paradox, unless my line of thinking is completely wrong.
The reason why a paradox isn't created in the first option is that, by taking a cube from the future, the original(present) cube would still be there for use in the present AND in the future (to be moved to the present), thus solving the puzzle.(This heavily abuses the alternate timeline theory, but still works)
This doesn't work in the second option because, by removing the original/present version of the cube, there is no version of the cube for the present version of the player to move. This is not a problem for future player, because they are in possession of the cube(at least until they realize that by taking the present cube, there is no future cube, but that's a separate problem), but without present player having access to the cube, future player technically wouldn't exist to take the cube, thus making an unresolvable loop/paradox.(I don't think that the timeline would slit for this change, due to the fact that there is no element for the timeline to split with, it's just one part of the timeline moving somewhere that the original section wouldn't be able to access, thus breaking SOMETHING, I just don't know what)
Please take everything I just said with a pound of salt because I am currently quite tired and talking directly out of my ass
@@kamikage2747 Umm... There is no "future" player, though... It's just one person, progressing through their own time, jumping between future and present. They're still "present player" in both times.
There is a present version of the cube to be moved to the future, it's just that it's no longer in the present after it's been moved. That doesn't remove the present version of the cube *before* it gets moved. It's simply skipped twenty years, no different than when the player moves through the time portal. There is no paradox that I can see.
It would have been a far better explanation for the game to just have the present cube be destroyed (in the same way as summoning a new cube does) if the player tries to take it into the future, simply explained as "you will not need it there, so you can't take it there". Or perhaps even setting up situations that rely on taking the present cube to the future to solve the puzzle (such as taking it through an area that is blocked in the present, but passable in the future).
@@sparkselm173 Yeah, makes sense. About halfway through I kinda lost any semblance of what my original thoughts had been cause I had gotten interrupted, so I kinda just rolled with it. I feel like, somewhere in the infinite expanse of a hoarder's wet dream that is my mind, I had something that would have actually made sense, but its probably already been buried in random song lyrics and fanfiction.
And how come you can go into the future, wouldn't that violate the laws of causality. Unless Subject [4-5-0-9] is actually from the future.
yeah, plus moving a present cube shouldn't interfere with a future cube. The future cube should only show up in the last place you put it before leaving the level (which would be impossible for the game because that would require real time travel).
I have a feeling the character you play is from the future, since present things cannot go to the future, but future things can be brought to the present
The last time I played a game with Portals I managed to glitch both of the portals and it created a weird loop of me going in and out of portals until I was moving too fast for a game to handle and I glitched through the map and fell into an empty never ending void
We call that "being born". It usually end task on it's own after 80 years.
last time i played a game with portals, this game (portal reloaded) i glitched it several times, once making 2 orange portals with 1 acting like green portal, and accidentally made it show commands sent everytime you either place green portals or go through green portals, also green portals just bring you to a very close location in the game, which i found out from glitch
@@szczerzo Sometimes it takes as many as 90 or more than 100 though.
check the related "crushed between two portals experiment" ruclips.net/video/0TZd95BCKMY/видео.html
One time I managed to create both portals with the distance between them smaller than camera height, so I didn't fall through at all. All I got instead was infinitely repeating kaleidoscope orange and blue
I thought I was an engineer, until I saw how fast you are finding out how to fix this. Back to school 🏫
5:55, I disagree with this logic. if taking something from the present into the future causes a paradox, then you stepping through should too.
In theory, if you take a cube to the future, only the future version should vanish, like if you move it in the past, it shouldn't just vanish.
however, it wouldn't help you solve the problem, because you'd still only have 1 cube in the future.
First >:) :)
5:51 How exactly does bringing cube into the future violates any laws of causality while you stepping into future does not?
I'm more baffled by the fact that bringing a cube from the future to the present doesn't spawn even older version of the cube in the future. Although that could be easily explained by pre-programmed disintegration after 21 years.
( disclaimer: time travel can be hard for some individuals to understand )
Anyways we definitely want to see more of this.
The fact that he didn't know that you play as Chell, and calling long-fall boots deer legs smh my head.
...proves that I wasn't lying when I say I haven't played in a decade? haha
How cool would it be if they expanded this concept to let you also travel into the past? The puzzles would get crazy.
You would need a fourth portal.
purple portal
I just want to personally thank you for sharing this with us. This is my favourite game in the whole world.
Yeah would love to see the whole thing. Shit i haven't played the game in a while as well but i'll try the mod for myself. Hope it doesn't fry my brain
5:55 "nice try, but (...) violates the laws of causality" Actually no, it doesn't. You take the portal so it makes sense that you could travel with something as well. Plus: moving things through time to the future doesn't break physics, whereas taking something to the past does break the universe (and causality). The game had this totally backwards, I wonder why
The player themselves is actively violating causality according to their own logic since they are a present object frequently entering the future.
Saw that the "set your date 20 years in the future" thing wasn't an easter egg, darn :(
However it would still be fun to watch more of this! Portal is always fun. :)
it's a 32 bit game so it would be impossible. i wonder if it's in the code as an even more obscure easter egg or because they didn't take that into account
@@heliusuniverse7460 it being a 32-bit executable doesn't mean that it's impossible to wait 20 years. Time doesn't necessarily have to be represented as milliseconds or seconds since the epoch, stored in a single "usize" int.
I am actually in engineering school. Hopefully I'll be a fellow engineer, it's finals week.
I just want to know, issues withstanding, if you were able to wait 20 years without the inevitable crash or breakdown of the system, would the first door open?? :P
I think if they coded that it'd be cool, even if it's totally impractical.
Maybe some secret dialogue after a while

Funnily enough I was playing Portal 2 RTX the other day for a laugh, be nice to see RTX come to this too!
Sorry cannot watch this until I've completed it 🙈 but will download now!!
Im curious if there is an actual timer on the door in the beginning, and whether its dependent on the game time or the time on your computer. Jump the time forward 20 years or ran the game at ludicrous speeds and it unlocks.
How many times can you loop the cube back to the past? You should be able to grab the "oldest" cube from the future and bring it back repeatedly to accumulate unlimited cubes (as long as you keep track of which cube is the "oldest").
That’s what I was thinking to like if the cubes in the present update the future and the future cubes can be placed in the present world then all cubes in the present should be able to appear in the future
So you’d have a 0 year old cube a 20 year old cube and a 40 year old cube and so on

I need to stop trying to think about this. Most of the puzzles he solved were solved in the present so I always wondered why they weren't already solved when he went to the future, but they never would have been solved if the future didn't exist in the first place making it a paradox, but I guess if you just consider it a different reality altogether each time something is affected where it was never solved then ok. It still doesn't make sense for a multitude of reasons like what the realities would entail, but ima just go with it at this point.

If time is on a two way highway. You can’t rely on the highway you are observing. Pick the lane representing where you know you are. The present.
You should REALLY try the game “5D Chess with Multiverse Time Travel”.
wasn’t it rated by most steam users as a psychological horror title?
@@Basic_Cat . . . yeeesss? It’s honestly a lot like Portal Reloaded logically speaking, except things don’t stay linear at all. In 5D chess, every time you travel time, you add alternate dimensions which you play in parallel.
This means that the more you time travel you partake in, the more pieces and assets you have access to. The tradeoff, though, is that every new dimension represents a new king you have to protect (unless you’re spawning these dimensions from a reality and time when the king already left the board by traveling through time and/or reality).
See? Simple! Deeefinitely not psychological horror. (Seriously though its a load of fun to play both casually and seriously like... once a month)
This seems quite fun and a fantastic concept for a portal mod.
5:25 The simple fact you started in the past means you did change the past at the beginning. You were supposed to die in that room if you didn't change the past to be in a future version.
6:00 That's lying. Time travel itself violates causality by merely existing unless you were always meant to have time travelled which means cubes aren't fizzling because time travel but to add difficulty! It's also fairly obvious from the portal changing that it's operating on multiverse logic where changing the past from future information creates new time lines. So there is absolutely no consequences for changing the past. There also is how bringing something from the future to the past changes the past in the exact same way as the reverse.
6:50 mentioning a singular time line implies multiple so it is multiverse logic... actually it would make more sense if it wasn't time travel but rather time line jumping. Two different Apertures cooping each other. The perpetual testing initiative also makes it potentially possible.
7:58 the only thing that should be happening is it moving to where ever it will have been last placed in the future till the next time you see it. It also would change the future to that one but it should be stranding the future object from the other time line in the current past since that object is from a different future. Otherwise these puzzles would be impossible to solve.
Wait what would have happened if you went BACK in through the time portal essentially reappearing 20 years previous
Okay, this is so cool though. Creative concept done really well, and also with the aesthetics of both Portal games.
I only just realized the protagonist is from the future cause else he couldn't get into the future cause this woold fuck with causality

I am most likely overthinking this but: wouldn't bringing a future cube to the past mean that there are 2 cubes now to the past and, as such, not only should there be 2 cubes in the future but you should also be able to repeat that step over and over until the cube becomes too damaged by the passing of time and breaks down?
