Also known as the Ford Escape in the US.
Brilliant video. Each action clearly described.I dreaded taking my car to dealership to have battery changed. This video' shows each step in a way that anyone can do the job and save a lot of money. Thank you very much .
You’re very welcome, glad to help and thanks for the comment!
@@IAMASPANNER do
PS when you change the battery will the car start with out haveing to set computter
@@petermcdonald7423 Yes. The car will start normally. No need to reset anything. Not even the radio
Thank you for taking the time to upload this video, simple steps, but without this video I wouldn't have had a clue! Much appreciated
Very glad to help Ian!
Just changed the battery on my 2015 Kuga. Saved almost £100 and was done in under 20 minutes. Mine had an extra box attached to the air pipe but it was just 2 screws and a jubilee clip to remove before the air box screws.
Thank you for putting this video up.
That’s great, well done! Thanks for sharing and glad to help.
What a marvellous demonstration. It has made me accept that I will be advised to get it done at a garage and take the cost hit. I am too old to do this now but in my younger days I would have been able to with this excellent video. Well done.
Alan from Croydon
Thank you for the kind words Alan!
Someone send this man a 3/8 socket set and some ratcheting spanners 😆
Excellent guide, thanks very much.
Few years on and Ive come back to this video again. Really well described and clear to follow. Thank you
Shouldn’t the red transport plugs be removed. Great video!
Nice vid, can’t believe Ford thought it was a good idea to make it difficult for Joe Public to change the battery
Saved me a lot of time changing a battery on the roadside on a very cold evening, so thank you.
Very glad to help and thanks for taking the time to comment 👍
Swapped my battery today on a 2013 Kuga, made simple with your video. Thanks so much!
Thank you so much. I desperately needed to install my battery today which I’ve done numerous times before with ease, until I come across the kuga location lol. 👍
Glad to help Matt, glad you got it sorted 👍
Followed every step of your upload and changed battery without any problems. Thank you for uploading such an informative, concise video, it made the job so much easier.
Thank you for taking the time to comment, I’m so glad to hear!
Thanks for this. Saved me some ££ and time in the garage. Only thing I did different was open fuse box on right. Locate the fat blue plug and push small black tab and then pull lever in blue plug. It saved me removing harness from the front of batter tray as it just folds flat and allows battery removal. Thanks 👍
Thanks for the comment Gary and if your method is easier I hope people will use it. At least we didn’t remove the wiper arms!
Thank you very much just saved us some pennies and we both enjoyed the learning curve experience without having to always rely on the garage to sort things out when we can do it at home if/when possible. Thank you
Excellent, identical to my 2014 C-Max. Thank you.
Thanks for the upload attempting over the weekend on wife’s car. Dead battery is another victim of COVID due to lack of use over lockdown and the cold British weather
You’re welcome and good luck with the job!
Thanks to your videos managed to change the battery tonight. I had one issue, the 10mm socket to undo bolts securing the battery clamp needs to be of medium depth due to length of the threads. Also useful to use a telescopic magnet to hold nuts when unscrewed. Also a good time to check/ replace air intake filter.
My battery packed up so was ringing around garages for them to supply and fit a new battery. £200 thought there was no way I was paying that so I ordered a decent Varta battery and watched your video, saved myself £90. Only really awkward part for me was the wires on the negative terminal, could not get them off so just eased them off with the terminal cable.. Would never have attempted it if I did not watch your video thats for sure.
Hi David, this is exactly my intention for my videos. I used to be ripped off for what I now know are relatively simple jobs. The best thing is you got to fit a premium battery and still save money! I really appreciate you sharing the comment, it’s exactly what keeps me sharing and good luck with any future jobs!
Just to clarify the battery reset procedure: Is it ignition on, then press rear fog button 5 times, then the hazards 3 times, wait for the battery light to flash. When flashing stops turn off ignition OR is it ignition on, press rear fog button on AND off 5 times, then press hazards 3 times on AND off, wait for battery light to flash. When flashing stops turn off ignition. ALSO do both buttons need to be pressed quickly i.e.in a given amount of time. Am I right in assuming date and time can be reset anytime or does it have to be done imediately after thew battery reset? Thanks
Thanks a million. Saved me an enormous headache. €160 for the battery was a lot better than it could have been
Brilliant video. Easy to follow and clear instructions. Saved me a lot of money as I know my local Ford garage would have charged a fortune.
Thanks Kev, very glad to help and thanks for taking the time to leave feedback! 👍
What a guy! New battery fitted, cheers. Bloody rigmarole like.
Well done Phil, very glad to help!
Dziękuję bardzo za instrukcje jak wymienić akumulator przydało się 👍
Excellent video. It took a bit of time and a few scratched knuckles but I got there. Cheers.
Well done, very glad to help!
Good vid, I’d removed the far end of the earth strap from the bulkhead before the +ve terminal, you can see it at about 3.59.
Thanks for the feedback Stuart, much appreciated.
Excellent video clear and concise. Thanks
Thanks for the video, really helped and saved on the cost of a mechanic
You’re very welcome and I’m glad you saved some money!
Hi thanks for the video well explaned. Ive just purchased a car with this stereo. Just a couple of question's if you can help what codes on the stereo is it i need to get my unlock code? And secondly i might be really thick here but how do i turn off the fan i can only seem to get it to low but not switched off 😅.
Thanks for the video - just replaced the battery in my 2013 Kuga with a "VBDF17-10027 Varta F17 Blue Dynamic 580 406 074 Autobatterie 80Ah" - and it went just as you showed in the video, with a couple of additional bad words trying to get the airbox out! 😂
Oh some jobs take some editing to get rid of the bad words 😂 well done though, very glad to help you get the job done!
Very well explained, was there any key fob re sets and radio code re sets? I’ve got mk2 Kuga that is in need of a battery.
No resets required although I believe there might be a procedure to tell the car it has a new battery fitted because modern cars use intelligent charging methods to reduce damage to batteries based on age.
Thank you so much. Couldn't have done this without your video. Legend
cheers mate, will need to replace my 2014 kuga battery this few days coming...nice content
Thanks, glad to help and good luck!
Nice one. Thanks for posting it.
Just one small detail may be worth mentioning. The brake fluid reservoir should be detached and pushed to the side, otherwise the removal of the air filter box would be quite difficult, and putting it back would be impossible. Yours appears to have been previously relocated, which is why it gave you no trouble.
Thanks Vlad!
Nope I managed it to remove and detached it again with the brake fluid reservoir in place
Hello , very helpfull, I have done it according to this video, it took me 45 min., many THANKS.
That’s great I’m so glad to hear, well done!
Great video.. I managed to do it in no time at all with the help from this.. thank you 👌🏻👌🏻
Great video. Thanks a lot.
Only thing is my battery said to remove the red transport bung on the side of the battery. Not sure if you mentioned it.
Appreciate your time and help.
Great video thanks for uploading!
THANKS for this video buddy , i was about to rip off the scuttle. 😊😊
Great vid mate saved me time and money tonight 👍
Glad to help 👍
Couple of points to make here. In real terms, the earth lead should be 1st off and last on to protect the electrical systems. The use of a memory saver is a good idea and terminal contact grease is a wise move as the battery is such a pain to get to. Removing the air box is the right way to go but makes access to the earth terminal way harder for access. The battery saver negates going through all the resetting of the radio, clock etc. The battery reset will still need to be done though.
Thanks a lot for sharing this video it was really helpful! 🙏
Glad to help! 👍
Hello! Thanks for that video as I was looking for a way to disconnect the battery as I have a head bulb to change. Now, one question, (I know it might look like a dumb question) do I absolutely have to disconnect the battery to change my dipped beam head bulb? Changing the bulb is very easy and it looks like a hassle to just disconnect the battery for that 😢
Didnt know there was a procedure similar to the service light, much appreciated mate
Glad to help! I didn’t know it was a thing until this job, don’t really work on Fords that often. Apparently it affects how the car keeps the battery charged.
Hi , great video , had to change my old battery on 26/1/2021 your vid really helped , thanks . Graham
Thank you Graham, glad to help!
Looking at getting the battery for my 2.0 kuga as mines is start hard when cold .how has it been performing since fitting thanks
Great video by the way 👍🏻👍🏻
Car has been absolutely fine since, good quality batteries should last in excess of 5 years. Thanks John!
Took me 50 mins. When removing the battery the first time those negative wires (including ground I believe) are behind a shroud behind the thing that keeps the battery down. You also clip that open
Awesome, this video was a great help. Many thanks👍
Very glad to help Tony!
Thank you very much for this great and helpfull tutorial 🍻
Thanks for the video! 👍
It's an excellent video, don't get me wrong...but this here is one of the many reasons people keep saying to me, "Why did you buy a Ford?!"
Unfortunately most cars are as bad these days. If the battery is an easy job on another car then there’ll probably be something else very difficult.
Changing the headlamp bulb on a Mk1 Focus.
Terrible.
@@IAMASPANNEReven jap cars? Somehow I doubt that
Battery change once in 10 years , what's the problem with buying a Ford 😂
My Ford has been very good and the battery lasted over nine years. Fords are generally good value for money, reliable, parts are not too expensive either.
Grazie a te,non portero' la mia kuga dal meccanico...grazie ancora!
Great video, my battery has totally died on a 5 years old mk3 :(
Thanks, hope you got it sorted!
@@IAMASPANNER had to get it replaced, after changing the AA guy had to reprogram etc car too
Just finished doing this.
*Two points:*
*1) **2:57** You only have to unbolt the LHS securing bracket bolt. I didn't touch the RH bolt, I just rotated the bracket arm 90 degrees out of the way.*
*2) Lower spec Kugas, without Stop/Start, have a shorter battery (i.e. front to back as installed, width as most people would call it; the dimension through the two terminals to the outer edges. Due to this, there is a plastic wedge in the base of the battery tray, which needs to be removed if you're installing a full size battery.*
I have a 2019 ST-Line with Stop/Start but it has the shorter battery (278mm), fitted from new as far as I know. Does that mean you can fit the larger battery (317mm). It is such a pain to take everything out to see the battery tray. Bit worried about the BMS as the battery is a higher spec. The manual says replace with the same spec. The Stop/Start no longer works all I get is a greyed out symbol on the dash I think the battery is on the way out.
@@granvillebashleigh7612
The battery tray is common.
At the rear of the battery tray, there is a slot where a plastic wedge was inert, so that the shorter battery can butt up against that and be clamped down.
Removing the wedge (it just slides out) allows the battery to go further back into the tray).
@@lewis72 Thanks for that, I wondered why battery suppliers all gave two different sizes as alternatives. I didn't know Ford had just stuck a plastic spacer wedge in there, without taking out all the stuff out to have a look you would never know.
Good video. Did the job well.
Helped a lot , thanx
If I open the fob
Find key
Open door
Will the car start as normal please?
Thank you very much. Great video
Thank you Ivan!
Thanks for the video. Going to have to replace my battery soon as the current one is on it’s last legs. Presume you’d recommend Yuasa as that’s what you were fitting? One final thing, was no one else worried like me that you were going to damage your nice watch at some point during the work, if it was me I’m sure I would have!!
I’d recommend fitting a premium battery for sure. I have a Bosch S4 on my daily and that has lasted being parked up for 3 months and even 2 hours driving without an alternator. My Fitbit does get a bit scratched and I have to take it off for tight jobs. If I took it off every time I was doing a job it would get damaged I’d never be wearing it.
Hi, fonyou have to do the battery reset function after installing?
Very helpful, really appreciate it.
Glad to help!
Just grapped my brother because the battery on my Mum's 2013 Kuga died this morning luckily we've bought one already. But it was freezing cold I guess -3°c so we had a hard time getting everything lose plus my mum's a beater when it comes to cars so everything was dirty and greasy.
But we did it took us 1 1/2 hours but the car's running again and thats the only thing that matters :D
Thanks for the video ! Does the BMS reset work for a ford kuga 2 phase 2 ?
I wouldn’t know, it would depend how much of the car has been updated.
Excellent video
Thank you very much!
Thanks, my Kuga battery failed without warning causing a whole load of strange issues. Ford should design their cars to display "Low Battery Voltage xxVolts" then stop systems running erratically. Even Alarm going off continously at one point.
Nice, thank you so much
Glad to help! 👍
Is start stop battery the same
do you not need to remove the red plug from the battery?
Surely it's negative then positive for removal, and positive negative to put back?
Have I got it mixed up in the video? Connect positive first when refitting because less chance of shorting to anything as if you did it the other way the positive could short to anything grounded. Opposite way for removal, I usually remember it as “negative first, negative last”.
@@IAMASPANNER yes
Nice job, well done 👏 👏
Thx so much dude👏👏
Is the nut securing the positive/ negative terminal connections 10MM both in the UK and US? I am trying to source the Noco GC008 eyelet to be able to connect my Noco Genius10 directly to the battery terminals to charge and maintain the battery because it is obstructed by the airbox and does not charge the battery properly by connecting the negative to the body. The UK only seems to sell the M6 and M8, the M10 is only available in the US ATM.
Thanks in advance
Hey Kenny, that's a good question and I'm sorry I don't know the answer. I've never actually considered they may be different in different markets.
I got the answer from a similar video, apparently the thread is M6, which is the size I need but the nut is actually 10mm - I've ordered the M10 from the US thinking I'd need an eyelet the size of the nut but apparently I need an eyelet the size of the thread!
Thanks anyway 👍🏼
Does the battery have to be taught in?
There’s a battery replacement procedure shown in the video.
good job !
Спасибо!
Dankeschön
I'm currently doing this on a 2017 Kuga.
What a massive pain in the arse this job is. Even the battery clamp nuts are recessed with long threads protruding to you can't use a 10mm spanner or a std 10mm socket.
I have the 2014(64) I replaced the battery but never had to do the battery status reset.
It won’t force you to reset it. The reset tells the car a new battery has been fitted so it knows not to overcharge it, I think the cars compensate more for older batteries.
You do NOT need to remove the wipers and the trim. That's a load of crap. You can easily remove the front panel of the battery box then the battery lifts out at a 45 degree angle. I've done it twice on our 2010 Kuga.
very Helpfull, thanks. I'd like do the same on an italian kuga 1.6diesel (end 2018).
buyed new, but 1y old, parked on Ford. after 1y, becomed problem's battery. Not daily use.
Ther's something to know for start&stop version ? Ciao!
You’re welcome! Just make sure the place where you’re buying the battery from know that your car is start stop as the battery is a different type.
What a disaster to change battery, Im lucky I dont have and never will have ford. Bmw or audi is so nice to change batteries
Yep. The cars makers are making cars more and more difficult to troubleshoot even for the most basic tasks so they can get the service revenue.
Just wait, there are cars where you already have to pay subscriptions for functions to work such as heated seats
