Fluence: awesome cleans. EMG: awesome distorted tones. I think, when somebody has Fluence pickups, the EMG HOT 70s riffage tones can be emulated by having an EQ at the very beginning of the chain, to remove some of the "pleasant chimey frequencies", and then it might sound like the EMG pickup.
I was shocked to see harley Benton have started to use EMG hot 70s in some of their guitars. Had to order myself the sc custom plus with them after hearing the clarity in these demos
I am currently using the EMG Hot 70 in my Sun Valley Super Shredder PT FR in which they came stock but I’m thinking of replacing them with the Fishman Modern. I play with high gain and it seems like these EMG’s are dampening the sound of the amp. When I switch over to my Ibenez CLM1 that run with Ibanez Std H passive pickups I get a better raw tone. Honestly, I’ve never played any active pickups before so I don’t know if it’s the EMG’s or that’s just the way all active pickups are. But I’m really dissatisfied with the EMG Hot 70 pickups.
The EMG Hot 70 is not a dark pickup. It doesn't even really sound "active" to be honest, its sound has more to do with typical hard rock passives than with actives, but is less muddy. Perhaps the guitar by itself just has a darker sound, or maybe the pickup in the Ibanez is just very top endy in comparison. In any case, the Fishmans are some of the brightest pickups around - actually even a bit too strident for many, especially in voicing 1. But if you're looking for a lot of sharp top end, they're certainly one of the options.

I like best the EMG. Sounds more natural to me, keeping a plenty amount of output and distortion.

6:22 Hot 70 >> Fluence Modern.
That note definition!
Do you mean Hot 70 < Fluence modern?
I like the EMG better in every category

Raise the EMG'S till they almost touch the strings.
Hard to hear a major difference between these.
