  • The deity enshrined at Izumo Taisha Shrine is ``Ookuninushi no Okami''. Okuninushi Okami is a god that is affectionately known as "Daikoku-sama" throughout Japan. He is such a famous god that there is a myth that he created the country called Japan.
    Izumo Taisha Shrine
The giant anaconda-like shimenawa rope wrapped around a tree branch is Izumo Taisha's most famous feature. They represent the separation between the mortal and supernatural worlds. In fact, the shimenawa at Izumo Taisha Kagura Hall is the largest in Japan, measuring 13 meters long and weighing 5 tons.
    A shrine that governs matchmaking
Please pray that you will find your future spouse.
The ritual of visiting Izumo Taisha is a little different from other shrines across the country. Instead of the usual two clap times at shrines, Izumo clap four times. Twice for myself and twice for my current or future partner.
Many young Japanese girls come to this shrine to pray to be blessed with a future husband. After all, Okuninushi is the god of matchmaking and good relationships.
Every November, eight million Japanese gods gather under Okuninushi-no-Mikoto, the god who created Japan, and a ``Council of the Gods'' is held to discuss matters such as marriage and next year's bountiful harvest. The main content of the meeting was to decide which man and which woman would marry. Marriage partners are determined by the gods gathered at Izumo Taisha Shrine. Your fateful encounter with your marriage partner may have been decided by the god of Izumo Taisha Shrine.
Various events are held at Izumo Taisha Shrine based on the myth that the gods stay there for seven days, and if you visit during this time, you will be able to see many Shinto rituals and valuable events that you would not normally see.

Great video! Please do more of such videos of historical places with local markets and food. There are already a lot of train/bus journey vlogs, so this was refreshing.
