I know its an older video, but i have to say in 2019, as a tolkien fanboy, and as someone interested in this adaptation, you really sold me on it. Also i highly admire your gandalf quote.
I seriously was looking at this supplement, and trying to decide whether or not to grab it. Thanks!!
I bought The One Ring but I've only had the chance to run one short campaign of about eight sessions. We had a blast playing it and the players got really immersed in the world. I can't justify buying this at the moment as I've got two current long term campaigns running and have Conan coming that I have to run. Sounds like they've done a really good job of converting it over, I think you're going to love it.
Speaking of which, a Conan review would be nice.
Love the review! Wish you were still putting out content like this! 😢❤
Yup, you've sold me on this dude! :) Buying it. You hear that Cubicle7?! :)
Very good review. Convinced me to purchase the MEPG as well as the 5E PHB & DMG, something I wasn't going to do after 4E. The books are on my doorstep waiting for me to get home. I foresee a journey into Mirkwood this weekend. Thanks for the review.
Brilliant review - subscribing and definitely getting Adeventures in Middle Earth. Used to play MERP as a kid in the 80s and 90s, just getting into 5E now, which I'm loving. So this looks like the perfect vehicle for me to present role playing in middle Earth to my kids. Thank you :)
Great review and video. Keep up the good work. I just picked up the Adventures in Middle-earth pdf and loved it immediately. I just finished posting my campaign information on Obsidian Portal and my game group is almost ready to start playing. The Road goes ever on and on...
Great review. I got my wife this for Christmas, and I really hope it inspires her to dabble in running a game. She is a bit of a Tolkien fan, but found the original One Ring system a little confusing. Look forward to checking out your Mountains of Mirkwood game to see how it runs!
Thanks for posting.
I was really excited when I heard about this release and your review has only further fanned the flames of that excitement. I can't wait to run some Middle Earth games!
Really nice review & critique Matt. I have the pdf and they have really captured the spirit of Middle Earth and the Lord of the Rings. Makes me hanker back to some of the cool campaigns we ran under the old MERP system. I'm very keen to see the Loremasters guide and dive into a new Middle Earth Campaign using 5e and this product.
Thanks for the review, you really sold it! I'd like to give it a read to that Journeys chapter. The possible events tied to the roles made me think of a fuller version of the travel cards from the Descent board game.
Thanks for the review, Matt. Much appreciated!
I have some AiME products on their way to me as I write. Like you, I'm really excited about the Journey mechanic. As you note, this is one of the essential aspects of Tolkien's works.
Just seeing this now, and it is great - has me wondering (at a quick glance I saw nothing) if you were doing to return to these for more reviews (the other books etc). Thanks ;)
Great in depth review, sold me even more on The One Ring.
Great review! I just bought the Player's guide and the Lorekeepers guide. I am looking forward to reading the chapter about Journeys. I always emphasized the aspect of traveling to the dungeon not just the Dungeon Crawl itself so I am super excited to read about a setting that focuses a lot on the actual Journey. Honestly I watched your review as a hype up after I purchased the games books
yayy more afistfulofdice videos whoooh
I love the books they have put out for their take on the RPG. It's fabulous, even their recent campaign book.
Great review Matt! I was on the fence with this but now Its a must buy.
Very helpful review! Buying this for sure :) Thanks!
Great review ...
I just discovered this supplement ...so I’ve watched a few different reviews ...which is how I stumbled upon yours . I will say, This review was the best!
Excellent job explaining the differences and underscoring the highlights in a very succinct and passionate way ...you’ve made a subscriber outve me .
Look forward to your other posts .
Cheers
Glad it was helpful!
two thumbs up. great review. Got my eye on this book now
Nice review Matt!!! Good job! Can you do the same for the Star Wars book?
Thanks for the review. I always wanted to do a low magic/LOTR feel campaign
Seems it is the product for this
Someone at ATCON 2018 was gushing about this tome. I was intrigued..
In your opinion, can you use this with standard 5E campaigns?
Hey, do you plan on making any more videos on the different races? I really loved the 3 you put out. Also no pressure I know what it's like to have people nag you about stuff! Thanks for the great videos!
So hanging out for the Loremaster book
Long sword and broad sword are both in there ,but the broad sword is a Dex weapon, not a Str weapon like the long sword.
Nice overview man! Could you give a sample of the cultures as background? Like a generic one that follows the guidelines?
Shadow feature sounds very much like “Taint” within Rokugan campaign.
Very helpful good job
Neat ideas in this game. Should make it feel a bit more low magic, a style I generally prefer.
Awesome reviews but...what I'm hearing is that there might be a one-shot you run of this in the future = )
would you recommend this to someone who wants low fantasy, but doesn't want to run in middle earth?
awesome, as usual
Constructive critique, this video was really quiet. Perhaps a volume boost during the editing would be beneficial?
Great call. I recently fixed some audio issues with my mic, but I may need to boost the gain!
Does the Fellowship phase part of this book replace long/short rests or is just something in addition to them.
It's a separate thing altogether. The Fellowship phase represents months or even years.
any of yall got some pdf links ?
Solid down and dirty on this mess: thanks for the great video, man!
I like how you cast yourself as a hobbit rather than an elf or something like that lolol
This was very good.
Best video ever!
Was that a wheel of time reference? A tainted dagger?
Have you read Anima: Beyond Fantasy?
Can you do some character creation videos great channel fella
I've been sold, this is on my "to get" list.
I wish you had been introduced to I.C.E’s Middle Earth Roleplay. It’s more in tune with the book and a lot more unforgiving than 5E but you won’t find better lore. I’m sure these are great too though.
Soumds like a ton of fun
Just to be safe I'll say in about a week or so you'll have another possible player to play this with.
The Shadow!?
This sounds like it's just a port of The One Ring to 5th edition
That's sort of the idea, yeah.
By the way, I'm not sure if you know, just mentioning there is currently a Kickstarter for a reprint of Deadlands Classic (on the occasion of it's 20th anniversary). Check it out, might be worth the investment and give you content for another review video !
I like AIME because it will let people play in the Middle-Earth, and give many gamers who know dnd a chance to play. And my hope is allow people to yearn for the One Ring.
you should talk about how bad is the wanderer class. and how weak are the virtues comparing to standard feats
Nicola Ricottone 5e feats are cartoonish.
I might buy the book just for the travel rules lol
Is this a promoted video? You should probably mention either way at the beginning. Nothing sounded inauthentic, but there were points where you definitely sounded like you were selling me something.
But don't worry, I don't care either way, it sounds really cool!
Nope, it's a genuine, honest review. Cubicle 7 sent me a review copy, but it is in no way sponsored or promoted.
I really do just love the supplement. Haha!
And just this week Cubicle7 has dropped TOR and AiME, full stop. Seriously, they are OUT.
They didn't "drop" anything, the licenses were pulled. They were about to publish TOR 2e (I was writing some adventure content for them) and had to cancel and refund pre-orders. Seriously a bummer, but not C7's call at ALL.
@PushandillPushback Free League has picked up the license and will be releasing new editions of both The One Ring and Adventures in Middle-Earth.
