My mom and dad just got rid of directv but the dish is still outside. We have antenna but just not enough ya know. What would be the best option for us to get the most channels. The most bang for the buck.

Just an update on a Hughesnet dish i got at a junkyard last summer, at that time didn’t do much went out today and put a universal lnb bracelet in the first bolt hole at 17 inches from dish and 4 inches high. Without any skewing whatsoever, set elevation at between 36 -38 degrees i am getting galaxy 3 c ku band and its watchable, i got this dish because of the size , know got to tweak it , got universal lnb bracket at hyper mega sat, this another dish that is usable.

I tried clicking on the bell and it won't work for personalized or all. It works for other RUclips sites so I know it is not my Chromebook. There are a few other sites like that. I live in Ontario as well. I have always been interested in Free-to-air satellite TV. Home Hardware used to sell the dish and receiver for that.
I got a GTMedia V9 on Amazon that looks good in their ad but it seemed like a piece of junk! It doesn't come with any instructions telling how to set it up or use it and has no usable satellites programmed into it! Also the remote control functions are weird and it will only display the video in a small box on the right of the channel list! After programming in Galaxy 19 I tried all the buttons on the remote and none of them would get me out of the setup menu and back to just viewing a channel. However I turned the unit off and disconnected the power and when I came back to try it again later and plugged it in it started working more normally but still has lots of problems. The Menu screen shows the weather in Madrid with no way to change it, the display is super bright with no way to dim it and the unit gets pretty hot while running but has no vent holes in the cabinet to let heat out so it will probably burn out shortly!
I also have one. You have to do blind scans on each transponder on a given satellite to get ALL available channels. SES 101 is a good example, due to the FCC repacking, channels are moving above 4,000 mhz. Just doing a blind scan doesn't get the new channels. You have to go into the satellite setup and change the transponder, then scan again. I find this a pain. The closed captioning (the reason I purchased it) provides giberish, and the remote viewing using the app only works on OLD android equipment. Most of the other added feature options don't work. But, it puts out good video and I can use an old android tablet operate it remotely for antenna setup. Does the basic job with some remote capability. I'll look into something else if this one fails.
hey Robbie, a quick question about digital receivers for c and ku band . Does somebody sell one that, is digital, but has an analog, channel knob so a guy doesn't have to do the blind scans every time you move the dish . Or does the AMIKO 265 receiver save the transponders and I just don't know how to do it? Also like to add in case somebody does what I did when hooking up a c-band dish. I used coaxial cable that besides having the copper in the middle and the woven shielding , also had aluminum foil like wrap I didn't cut off and remove. so when I put the ends on a crimped them it stopped the ground from sending the lnbf power sorta like a fuse that burned out. because I tried even different coaxial and each only worked for a few minutes and quit. ( aluminum foil burned out) and wrecked my connection. so to trouble shoot and try and get a signal again I stripped back the black coating on the coaxial threw away the foil in that area used some bradded ground wire I used on pinball machine head wiring project repair, wound it around the shielding soldered it and wound the other end around the outside of the crimp part that doesn't turn & soldered that . I did that on each end . When I went inside a did a blind scan right away I could see it was picking up a signal again ( another word the power was restored to the combo c and ku lnbf ) and it worked again & didn't quit any more . was reliable
They were digital analogue receivers over 20 years ago, But they are outdated. Now they have Mpeg4 and better So the Amiko will do it. All receivers will pick up KU band and C band. I am told that you're able you can use a world dish . But you got to make sure that it is a linear KU Band lnb on the dish you are using. As a can work but you'll get better results with a 36-in dish

Will not work with DTV, But you can use it to help aim your dish if your using the portable unit. Just find a reference frequency on Lyngsat!
