png-to-ascii Video Demo

  • png-to-ascii is a GUI app that I wrote in Java that lets you quickly convert image data into ASCII art. This version is somewhat barebones but still features some control over the output:
    - A slider that determines the square radius of pixels to sample brightness from, perfect for larger images
    - A line skip control for adjusting the proportions of the ASCII art (given that most fonts are almost 3 times as tall as they are wide)
    Mainly, I made this to gather some experience using JavaFX and Maven as those are both technologies I had yet to use. Maven is very awesome and very confusing, and JavaFX didnt help by making things even more complicated. At the end of the day though, I had a lot of fun working with both and I plan to continue my adoption of them as I work with different backend technologies
