Great information as usual, thank you! Might give the app a go.
I've been concentrating on "collecting" vocabulary instead of focusing on sentence structures and other grammatical elements for the past months (so sadly I'm not up to date with your lessons). With the other languages that I know I realised how essential a comprehensive vocabulary is, more than anything. As soon as I've built a strong base of words and phrases I'll continue your lessons! Looking forward to more videos from you :)

The kanji can be pretty difficult to learn, but they're very productive in terms of morphemes. I found that if I watch a movie or tv show with Japanese subtitles, I can understand a lot. Because the sound is often part of the kanji itself, many are not too hard to remember itself. The ones that have a sound that don't match the way they're written are tricky, however, and you need to see them in a few words before you get the hang of them.
For me the purpose to study kanji separately was to make reading less mentally exhausting. I couldn't recognize them well when they showed up in new words until I studied them properly.
It's worth it, but prepare to spend a year on the joyo before they really stick. When you have done that, in a whole story there will only be a handful of non joyo, much more manageable.

I know it may sound weird, but I don't learn them at all.
I just learn a serie of words with them around, and my brain start picking the relation/pattern just by watching them many times.
I don't even tried to learn any of them, and I m probably around 500 completely learned.
and then I understand relation just by intuition after a while.

I've been studying mandarin as well, and I have to say, I quite like how kanji are used in Japanese. That is because they always have semantic value. I've often seen in mandarin that a hanzi is used for the sound, rather than the meaning.
The advantage is that even if I have never seen a word before, I can still make a pretty good guess what it is.
    飛行機? What's that?
    飛 - jumping/ flying
    行 - go/move
    機 - device/machine
So it's a machine that moves through the air? Pretty easy to guess what it is.

Hello! I just found your lesson #13 video on verb masu form and particle "o", and it was excellent. Then I went to your channel to see if you are still teaching. I looked at this video and like it so I just downloaded TOBIKA. Thank you. Question? Are you now speaking in Japanese only? Do you teach online classes?

Thank you for your comment! In some of the videos for beginners, I speak English but I normally speak Japanese in my videos because I want everyone to get used to listening to Japanese.
Currently I’m not teaching any new students since I work overtime recently😫Thank you for asking though🙏

      覚えるスピードは、人によって全然ちがいます。日常生活で使う漢字は2,136字あります。ある生徒さんは毎日3つずつ勉強して、2年でマスターしました。覚えた漢字を忘れないようにアプリを使ったり日記を書いたり、たくさん漢字を使うことを意識しましょう!
The speed of learning varies greatly from person to person. There are 2,136 kanji characters used in daily life. One student studied 3 kanji every day and mastered them in 2 years. To make sure you don't forget the kanji you learn, use the app, write a diary, and be conscious of using kanji a lot! 👍🏻
