I used Genki 1 and 2 for school. I think they are good for learning vocabulary and grammar also kanji. I learn more daily Japanese by watching your videos and your video game play. Plus I enjoy your style and voice!!!
Thank you for your comment! Everyone has different preferences and own efficient ways of learning, so I can’t say anything which is 100% sure. But Japanese from zero textbook has less exercises/other materials compared to other textbooks like GENKI which has workbooks, apps, free audio files and free website(quizzes, flash cards, videos, etc) to help you consolidate grammar and vocabulary you learn. Many from-zero users I’ve met were struggling to use grammar/vocabulary in real life. It’s because they “roughly know/remember what it is” but are“not used to use it“. If you are using the from zero series, I recommend using its website too but many contents are not free. As I mentioned in the video, each textbook has both good and bad sides. For people who prefer something simple, I still recommend from zero series. No matter which textbook you use, I believe having conversation practice in addition to textbook study is the important part👍🏻 Sorry for the loooong reply! Hope it helps!
That textbook is considered that it’s not appropriate for self study and some of the phrases introduced in the book is too formal/unnatural🙏 I actually talked about it too when I took the video but cut that part(also “Japanese for busy people”) cuz I was not sure if I can introduce them as recommended books🥺 They are still good though! But not my recommendation for self study🙏
返事をありがとうございました。Your response gave me an idea for a new video for you...why not do a show in which you discuss the unnatural phrases taught by Minna and contrast them with more natural Japanese? I would find that very instructive and entertaining.@@satous-nihongo-playground
Satou san, how are you? I have communicated with you on some of your past videos. I have been studying for 3 months, using apps like busuu, quizlet, and online Italki tutor using Genki. I am on lesson three… I am learning, but i really can’t communicate. Is there something else I could do? Best, John
Thank you for your comment! The reason why you think you can’t actually communicate, is important. If you can’t communicate because you can’t come up with words, you should use vocabulary app mote to stick words in your mind. If you are not good at making sentences, write a journal in Japanese or try to make as many sentences as possible and ask your tutor to check it together. There are many ways to study and you should choose one that works for you and meets your goals. がんばりましょう!
@johnnacke4134 ありがとうございます😊 Marugoto online course is for free, so please try and see if you like it and if it’s helpful because it always depends on a person👍🏻
@@satous-nihongo-playground Satou san, i hope you don’t mind me asking questions… I wish you tutored …. I am on Lesson 3/4 in Genki… no romagi… I find myself going to vocabulary and converting the words to romagi to help me in memorization…is this ok to do… I know hiragana and katakana, but not having romagi makes this process slow and laborious… What are your thoughts? Ciao, John
@johnnacke4134 In general, relying on romaji too much makes learning quite slow. There’s no romaji most of the time in real life, so you need to get used to Japanese letters. However, if converting to romaji is helpful for you to memorize new words, you can continue that but please try not to use romaji when you read sentences😊れんしゅうです!Let’s practice reading a lot until you get used to it! Hope it helps!
@johnnacke4134 I’m really sorry, that’s 2-6am in Japan and I can’t teach that early🙇🏻♀️🙏 Could you try again when you’ll have any other times available?

I use the Genki textbook since that was the one required for my 101 and 102 classes. The Marugoto course seems interesting and it's free!
Very informative. ありがとう。
Thank you! This video was really helpful, but would you say i should use another recourse with the Japanese from zero?
