Geofatboy, I want to personally thank you for not only reviewing the razor, but demonstrating how to properly use it, and the angle you need to use. I am brand new to safety razor shaving, and I bought the Feather AS-D2, your video helps me out. Thank you!
Nice to see an American giving metric measurements too, I mean I can use both but metric is the go to. Great review thinking of picking one up as a Christmas pressie for myself.
Love my ASD2. Since getting it I have stopped drooling over any other razors. Theres no improving on perfection. And I use that Spanish Leather every day. It was like watching myself shave. Nice video, thanks!
Ever since I bought it in January this year, the Feather AS-D2 has become my Top 3 favourite razor. I love stainless steel razors best anyway. And the AS-D2 is clearly a keeper for a lifetime. Superb build quality, finish, style, weight, and the shaving performance is just right on the money. I’m used to (and quite enjoy) aggressive razors and I don’t think this one is actually mild at all. Again, it might be the angle factor. Before buying it, I watched a few reviews and some commenters all seemed to recommend a steeper shaving angle (say, 45 degrees) to get the optimal shave with this razor. It turned out to be quite right in my experience. When done that way, I get a medium to pleasantly aggressive /efficient shave every time. I always use my usual trio of either Feather, Kai or Perma-Sharp blades with this one. The AS-D2 is pricey but very worth its price tag.
Greetings. I see that you list the Kai blades in your comment. I looked at this; and wasn't sure about them. I'm a diehard, fanboy, lifetime user of Feather and Feather only. Which is why I was interested in this razor. However, I was curious about the Kia blades to use in one of my other razors. What is your opinion of these blades? Amazon reviews are all over the place. People love 'em or hate 'em.
Rood67 ...I love them. Kai, like Feather, are more expensive than all the other blades. But the price is worth it. In my experience, Kai is almost as sharp as Feather, but definitely a bit smoother all round. So you get a very nice combination of great sharpness plus comfort. The blades also seem to last longer than Feather. If I could only have just a single brand of blade, I’d probably still choose Feather, but Kai is right up there in quality and satisfaction. In my opinion, of course. I’d say go for it, buddy. I reckon you’d love them.
@@sajjadhusain4146 Thank you for the reply. I'll pick up a pack and see how they are. As I said, I'm diehard for Feather; however, in the slant razor that my mother-in-law gave me from my father-in-law's collection this past Christmas - I find I'm getting a little burn after shaving. To counter this, I use the slant on the first pass, and my Pawn Stars TTO for the second and third. The slant gives me near BBS with the grain in one pass; yet, my whiskers are very coarse. So I have to have the extra passes; which gets me to where I only need to shave twice a week, most weeks. I have discovered the wonders and joy of using pure coconut oil as a pre-shave. I think from your description, using Kai blades in the slant may smooth out the experience. I keep looking at razors and reviews like this one, but I cannot justify the cost for some of these when I have good razors already.
Rood67 ...Yea, try out the Kai blades. One pack of 5, for starters. I think it’s very likely you’d like them a lot. And like you, I still love Feather best. Your talk of the slant razor reminds me that I never had one. I’m curious and keen to try one out this year. The only razor that gives me a near-bbs with a single with-the-grain pass is my Muhle R41 Grande. As for the very expensive razors, I cannot disagree that the high prices are hard to rationalise, when obviously they aren’t multiple times superior in terms of shaving quality compared to the inexpensive, or decently priced razors out there. I’m glad I have it.
@@sajjadhusain4146 So I bought a double five pack of Kai blades from Amazon. They are extremely flimsy compared to the Feather blades I have. My slant razor is a two piece, and when I put the Kai blade in and tightened it down, there was good alignment; however, it sounded like I was breaking the blade in half. I don't find them nearly as sharp as a Feather blade. I had to constantly go back over the same area, from different angles. And that is after a complete three pass shave. All of this sounds bad, but I think in my cheap Pawn Stars TTO, that won't bend the blade; these may do much better. I just don't think they are the right blade for such an aggressive razor. Bravo ! Excellent review. I recently bought this razor and I am glad I did. First of all, it really is an object of beauty. Secondly if you have sensitive skin it will never cut or nick you. Thirdly it is well made and presented. I still have a soft spot for the rest 34c though. God bless you and your family Geo.
I bought this as an upgrade after using my first safety razor, Merkur 38C for a couple of years. Took a couple of shaves to re-learn all the angles - The AS-d2 got a rather narrow window for optimal performance, but once you get used to it it's excellent. However, the actual performance is neither better or worse than the Merkur. Threads are butter-smooth on both, the shave quality is identical (with the same blades), and both will last for the rest of your life if cared for. The Feather's superior materials may possibly make it a heirloom for several generations, but it won't affect the performance. Is it worth the pricetag (In Sweden, 5 times that of a Merkur 38C)? For pure performance, no. If you want bathroom ornament, or enjoy the knowledge that you're fondling a premium material, yes. Just don't fool yourself into believing that you'll get a better shave for the premium price.
I sure do! That's the original razor I showed in the video, I remember I sent him some other razors and supplies that he wanted as a thank you. That was a very sweet gesture. He sent me it gratis as a way of saying thanks for the videos. That doesn't happen every day! Most wet-shavers are a kind and generous breed.
Another great video! I started using a safety razor a couple of months ago and you've helped me getting a smooth shave without irritating my skin. Thank you and greetings from Sweden!
Geo, this is awesome... I was just watching your AS-D2 review from 9 years ago and then this video just posted lol. I’m just getting back into wet shaving after having a beard for the past 14 months. Great vid as always. Love this razor!
Hi Geo- Great shave and razor review; thank you! Nice-looking stainless steel razor; definitely seemed very maneuverable! I hope you have been having a great week. Take good care and be safe and be well. Best regards, as always!

Paul S. Went from Merkur HD and Gillette Fatboy to this. Never used a feather blade until I got the Feather. Now this Feather combo is all I use; and nearly every day - dont have to think - Baby smooth and never a cut. By the way - started with the cheap feather pop and it is damm good. so, if money is a concern - buy the cheapie - no one can touch the price value combo.
Same here.. It was my first DE Razor. I was lucky to get it from a friend with a leather case included for 50 bucks.. I had no idea what kind of a razor it was.. i feel bad for the dude, he must have been desperate. Its not until later when buying more razors i realized this one was exeptional. Smoothest razor that never disapoints you.. This is probably gonna be the razor i will buy for my Nephew and hand down to future generations. Only bad thing about it is that it makes a bunch of other great razors look bad.
@@youremybiggestfan I ordered a Rockwell 6s from West Coast Shaving (same as the 6c but in stainless and $99 not $50) I heard good things about the 3 reversable base-plates. But so far, the AS-D2 feels almost as if it has no blade.
@@scottmichael3902 @Scott Michael Yeah, i feel you.. I actually wanna order that razor.. I got the adjustable rockwell Model T.. I really liked it alot but its kind of a blessing and a curse to have had the Feather as my first. :D Its just seems near impossible to beqt.. Fits my face and whiskers perfectly, so smooth and gentle, youre right, like it doesnt even feel the blade. I like collecting razors and its nice to try different things. It is what it is. Although i dont know how optimal the Feather razor is for very heavy beard growths im surprised this razor isnt mentioned more. For me with its just the perfect shave, all stainless, sturey simplistic design, great grip.. No visible scratches, spots and nicks to obsess over. Absolutely worth every cent and a razor that could last a life time or be passed down to your children as their first DE safety razor. Perfect for a beginner too, even though they can probably get a bit dissappointed the next few razors they get. :D Take care
Love this razor. I purchased it when it first came out. Expensive but very well worth it. Excellent control, very very rarely nick myself, great shave.
@@j.aghorbani5197 Yes, I absolutely still love it and use it every day. I use Feather blades in it and change to a new blade once a week. When I shave I do two passes and get a wonderful result.
@@j.aghorbani5197 I previously used the 34c. I checked again. I’ve had the Feather for 7 years. Once in a while I use a very mild and safe stainless steel cleanser on it. Perfect as the day I bought it. I hope you enjoy yours.
Thanks Geo! Since I bought this all my others gather dust. An amazing razor but I find the angle has to be steeper at around 45 degree for most efficient use. I also pair mine with Astra sp blades.
Just got the wooden AS D2S (officially WS D2S) off Mercari for $120. Crazy good deal if you ask me! Wish you would've shaved with wooden one as well just to compare grip.
As someone else has said Corinth is in Greece and its name describes a certain form of a column which can be be found in all those old ancient sites hence Corinthinian column copied a lot by the Romans in fact as well as the Greeks. By the by this is one of my go-to razors as I like the quality and finish of the razor and it is not too heavy either.
How can somebody have hit the dislike button for this or any of your videos?! I was going to use more colorful language to ask the same question but you run a family safe channel. But.....?!!!!! You videos always make my day Geo.
Ha Ha, I think I mentioned that topic in one of my other videos... Basically jealous haters gonna hate! But really, if you're in business for 10 years you're bound to step on somebodies toes. It's inevitable. Can't avoid it.
Looks like a great razor. Weight, length, knurled handling. Use feather blades often. Currently use a Merkur 23 C. Like it fine. Am concerned the Feather wouldn’t give a closer shave in comparison. Anyone have any personal experience comparing the two? Want to make sure before I think about spending $200.
Sorry about that, I think I had a slight memory lapse there for a second. I know that Corinthian columns are very popular in ancient architecture...Greek and Roman... but then again I have a cousin who lives in Corinth Tennessee. So he's Greek and lives in Corinth, but not the city in Greece!
Whoever manages to cut himself with this razor, should almost get a price. It’s so incredibly smooth, using the Feather blades. My Sunday treat though, is the Feather Artist Club DX. Takes more time and focus, and has the ability to cut, but it’s just so satisfying 😊
Glad I saw this video. I have what I thought was an ASD2, but now I know it's a ASD1. I love everything about the razor, except that I can't get a close shave with it. Guess I'll have to get an ASD2.
I love this razor but as time has gone on I have wanted a more aggressive shave and I have been using the Merkur 93c and it has been great for me. Feather really did everything right with this razor I just wish it was aggressive

What difference does it make between applying the cream directly to our chin and lathering from there and dropping the cream on a bowl and lathering from there... I along with all my friends, from day 1 apply the cream on the chin and lather from there...
I think it's personal choice. I do both but face lathering gives you a better feel for what the lather is doing and you can add water to thin it to just how you like it. Dave.
Have you ever reviewed a Mehaz double edge butterfly safety razor? I know it’s a cheap one, but I have been using one for the past 8 years and love it. I use the Personna blades.
Greetings from Iași, Great video Sir, i m waiting a video with TATARA MASAMUNE NODACHI CLOSED COMB AND ALSO WITH TATARA MASAMUNE CLOSED COMB, thank you for your job!
Hello. Thanks for the video. Your way of shaving is very impressive. You make it so easy that it seems like it is, although I' truly know it isn't. If it is such a good blade, so versatile, capable and adaptable, I would like to know why from 1 to 10 do you only give it a 3. For me since I was in school, a 3 is a failure, and not only that. From 1 to 10, a 3 is very poor. Thank you
The shaving method is simple, as it's meant to be. The 3 rating is for aggressiveness, meaning it's meant for milder beards. The overall rating of this razor would be closer to 10!
I have AS-D2 razor but did not get the stand i just keep it in the box, i normally go 4 or 5 days without a shave and this razor takes my growth right off to the point where i don't bother with the second pass, i also don't have mad growth like some guys do, and find this razor is perfect for me. i also only use a feather blade three time before discarding. I always disassemble the razor after use and give it a good hot water rinse and dry off with a towel. Nice review have a great shave!
Recently I have seen watched you demonstrate two premium razors, the Rex Supply Envoy and tonight the Feather AS-D2. Between the two ( I haven't looked at the price of the Feather yet) which is the best for a daily to every other day shaver. Medium to heavy beard. Keep up the great content! Customer service is awesome.
Thanks Harvey! Both are excellent quality razors and durable stainless steel. They are so similar shaving I'd go based on budget or on eye appeal since you will be the one picking it up every day to shave with it!
Hi Asquith, I too have sensitive skin but with the Feather AS-D2 I use Feather blades. I find Treet blades very good and Derby are gentle but not as sharp. Try Monsavon soap as well as that is great for Sensitive skin. I find some of the heavily scented soaps/creams can irritate too. Proraso white (Sensitive) balm is fantastic for after your shave. Best wishes and stay safe, Dave.

Love Feather! I'm a professional barber and use the Feather Artist Club DX for wet shaving customers. IT IS A PERFECT RAZOR. Been thinking about biting the bullet and getting their AS-D2 for shaving at home. When I'm back at work and earning again (lockdown) I've decided I'll get one.
Hi Orhan, I own both and I would have to give the edge to the 3one6. The Feathers is extremely mild and I have to overshave to get smooth which leads to soreness. I have no problem finding the correct angle with the Feather which is the secret to a close shave. My Feather razor has just been returned as the top cap didn't sit correctly making the blade alignment wrong. The 3one6 is a more aggressive razor but it is superbly made and the blade alignment is always spot on. I would personally buy the all stainless 3one6 although I own the red handled version too. If you want a razor that's better than both of these, go for the Rex Envoy. Regards and stay safe, Dave.
Wonderful review Geo! As usual. But can you tell me why stainless steel razors are so expensive? The Rockwell 6S is another example. Stainless steel is a pretty cheap material here in India. I'm really very confused. It's not rare at all like gold or platinum. Is there really a reason? I would love to know. Thanks and regards, Dr. Basu.
3ONE6, 39C, R41, and just about any adjustable razor out there. All available at ShaveNation.com ! I stole this from a comment up above so yes, I plagiarized it... from myself.
I got tired of buying Mach 3 or Venus cartridges. Even at Costco so expensive and they don't last long. I saw all these reviews and got addicted to watching you shave. I bought this and it's amazing. The grippy handle is the best! This is expensive, but I am so glad I just bought this. Also, it does a better job. Particularly on stubble. My legs are so so smooth and I haven't cut myself ever.

You made me enjoy my morning shave!! before , shaving was a daily torture !!! Thank you....
Yay! I love to hear that.
Remember years ago when you revieded the first edition, provided by a custumer, as it wasn’t one you stocked in your shop back then
Thanks Joel! I'm glad I could help.
Geo, this is awesome... I was just watching your AS-D2 review from 9 years ago and then this video just posted lol.
I’m just getting back into wet shaving after having a beard for the past 14 months. Great vid as always. Love this razor!
Perfect timing! Have a Great Shave, Have a Great Day!
This was great and I appreciated the review. Corinth is in Greece ;-) Beautiful place.
Hi Geo- Great shave and razor review; thank you! Nice-looking stainless steel razor; definitely seemed very maneuverable! I hope you have been having a great week. Take good care and be safe and be well. Best regards, as always!
Thanks Mike, be well.
Geo👍👍 You're a classic man, nicely done. Your reviews are dead on, straight up, simple, to the point and done with authority and class😎 Keep on living bro. Enjoy!
Thanks very much Terry! I appreciate your kind words of support. I'll keep putting them out there.
After a few shaves, I now ride the cap from beginning to finish. Way less scraping - the blade just cut! 🙂
Such a beautiful razor and performance
I’m so glad you reviewed this! I’ve had mine for a year now
Do you like it?
Sweet razor!
Tobin Fetters yeah definitely. I don’t have another DE razor to compare it to but it’s much better than my single blade Genesis
Corinth is in Greece, Geo. Nice video!
Thanks Bruce-see my comment above please, way above.
@@geofatboy Ah okay, saw it! Not that I've ever been to Corinth but I know where it is because of studying the Bible. Btw my name's Sean but my RUclips name is a tribute to Bruce Lee Lol. Blessings and take care, from the other side of the Atlantic 🙂

Great input, thanks Paul!
My absolute favorite razor. BBS, literally every time.
This is my next razor purchase. Last month was rockwell model T but really want one of these. Thanks.
Your shaves will not be better with this razor.....
Love this razor. I purchased it when it first came out. Expensive but very well worth it. Excellent control, very very rarely nick myself, great shave.
How long have you had it in total? and do you still love it?
@@j.aghorbani5197 Yes, I absolutely still love it and use it every day. I use Feather blades in it and change to a new blade once a week. When I shave I do two passes and get a wonderful result.

@@mark19441944 ,thanks for the response, I went from using merkur 38c to waiting on it the feather to arrive. I am looking forward to it
@@j.aghorbani5197 I previously used the 34c.
Sounds good! That Astra green is also one of my fave blades.
Thanks John, I actually responded to my error up above, and yes, you are correct.
The Corinthian column is a construction of the ancient Greeks and was later copied by the Romans.
Oh WOW what a great Razor , very fast shaving ! I liked that so much !
Thank you Sam!
Bloody marvellous. Thanks Geo.
Thanks James!

Reassuring review thanks as I’ve been scared of Feather blades. The razor looks beautiful.

They would be similar shaving. May not be worth the cash output, unless you want something stainless steel.
Corinth is the successor to an ancient city, and is a former municipality in Corinthia, Peloponnese, which is located in south-central Greece.

Beautiful razor 👍
The black wooden one is my regular razor, and have been ever since i bought it. Very expensive, worth every penny
Great! It's always nice to hear positive comments about an expensive 💰razor like that.
Whoever manages to cut himself with this razor, should almost get a price. It’s so incredibly smooth, using the Feather blades. My Sunday treat though, is the Feather Artist Club DX. Takes more time and focus, and has the ability to cut, but it’s just so satisfying 😊
Jarle Øygarden thats my setup too! 👍
Glad I saw this video. I have what I thought was an ASD2, but now I know it's a ASD1. I love everything about the razor, except that I can't get a close shave with it. Guess I'll have to get an ASD2.

Sweet!
I love this razor but as time has gone on I have wanted a more aggressive shave and I have been using the Merkur 93c and it has been great for me. Feather really did everything right with this razor I just wish it was aggressive
Amazing video Geo!
Thanks Samuel!
Hi Geo, how are u? can you plz try the Wilkinson Sword Classic not the Palstik one but the metal one I have use this one and I find it very Bad, maybe I did something wrong! Can u make more Shaving videos using Muhle r89, merkur 34C and merkur 23C you have not many videos for those Razors? Thank u
Hi Maher, I don't have the metal one, but if I get my hands on them I'd be happy to demo it. Thanks!
Dave.
Thanks Geo, you are the best

Hi Geo, what is this razor compared to the Rockwell 6S with plate 3?
Thanks, like your Videos very much!!
They would be very close, the Rockwell might edge it out by a tad...
I would say equivalent to plate 2 on the Rockwell. The Feather is very mild.

@@geofatboy ok, thnkU
I have AS-D2 razor but did not get the stand i just keep it in the box, i normally go 4 or 5 days without a shave and this razor takes my growth right off to the point where i don't bother with the second pass, i also don't have mad growth like some guys do, and find this razor is perfect for me.
i also only use a feather blade three time before discarding.
I always disassemble the razor after use and give it a good hot water rinse and dry off with a towel.
Nice review have a great shave!
Nice! Show this razor some love, and it will love you back. For a long time!
Can you review treet black carbon steel blades😀😀
I have used them in a video already. They are out of stock now, don't think I have any left.
How long/how many uses can you go with one blade ?
Usually 4-6
What is the best way to to clean a DE safety razor? I.e. any certain products etc? Thanks.
Sir, how is this razor in comparison to i.e aggressiveness to Edwin Jagger 3 one 6👍👍👍
Sit, I'd say this razor is just a tad below the 3ONE6 in aggressiveness.
New subscriber to the channel 👊🏿. What blades would you or fellow subscribers recommend for someone with sensitive skin?
Hi Asquith,
I too have sensitive skin but with the Feather AS-D2 I use Feather blades. I find Treet blades very good and Derby are gentle but not as sharp. Try Monsavon soap as well as that is great for Sensitive skin. I find some of the heavily scented soaps/creams can irritate too. Proraso white (Sensitive) balm is fantastic for after your shave.
Best wishes and stay safe,
Dave.
Dave Sheppard thanks! 👊🏿

@@davesheppard8797 Hi Dave! I've only been using Wilkinson's Sword with my razor of the same brand so far but branching out with an Amazon sample pack. I find the Proraso white is great, but I have tried Henri et Victoria Cognac and Cuban Cigars which is really good too. Using Executive Man from Stirling and West Indian Limes (Truefitt and Hill) is on the way. Thanks for checking in! 👊🏿
@@asquithallen Is that the Wilkinson classic butterfly Asquith? If so, I own one but haven't used it for ages as it sliced me up badly both times I used it. I have been wet shaving for many years so it wasn't through inexperience. I will try it again at some point. Nacet blades are superb as are Gillette Silver blues and Gillette Platinum. The Gillette 7 o' clock range are good too. I've been buying A&E soaps recently and Castle forbes Lavender. All great soaps. See above please.
Hey Gio! Thanks for all your videos, I enjoy your channel a lot! :) I wanted to ask a quick question about this razor as I’m leaning towards buying it. Could you please compare the aggressiveness of it with Muhle r89 or King C. Gilette? I also have a Rex Envoy, but to be honest it’s going towards the more aggressive side to me personally. I would really appreciate the feedback. Thanks a lot and have a great day! :)
The AS-D2 will be just slightly less aggressive than the R89 or King C Gillette razors. Hope this helps!
@@geofatboy it’s actually great to hear that it’s smooth. This definitely sets my decision for buying the razor. Thanks Gio and have a very great day! :)

How does this razor compare to the Edwin Jagger 3ONE6? They seem very similar.
Oops, I see you've already answered this question below. I should've read through the comments before posting, sorry.
wonder if anyone checks this anymore? if you do, you sold me on this product.
Thanks for sharing Steven. It's great to hear what a Pro thinks about it. I believe it's the cream de la creme of shavette razors!
Hi. Edwin Jagger 3ONE6
vs Feather as-d2 ? Which one do you recommend?
Hi Orhan,
I own both and I would have to give the edge to the 3one6.
Regards and stay safe,
Dave.

Wonderful review Geo! As usual. But can you tell me why stainless steel razors are so expensive? The Rockwell 6S is another example. Stainless steel is a pretty cheap material here in India.
